What is the cheekiest thing someone has asked of you?

There have been many but reading on another thread about the CFery of a school mum reminded me of a time when my DC were at primary.
A mum asked if I’d mind picking her DC up from school and taking them to another school a few miles away where they were competing in an intersports thing. My DC were competing too so I agreed assuming she was working.
When we got there, said mum was already there in the front row with her DH & DPs. I asked what was going on, she replied that they wanted a good seat and parking so didn’t want to wait until their DC finished school so they could get their first. I was absolutely stunned…I still laugh at the audacity of this years later🤣🤣

@Heldri honestly, I didn't just lift this from the telly, truth is often stranger than fiction Grin

Honestly, this all happened years before Motherland came out, though it's uncannily similar to the episode with the pool party. I'm beginning to wonder if one of those Mums was a scriptwriter on it!

Sorry, I wasn't very clear in my comment, I totally believe it happened but it just reminded me of the Motherland dynamics!

Ohhh I finally have something to add - I say finally, this happened 8 years ago!

Someone I knew in passing, my (ex) boyfriend's cousins friend who I'd bumped into on nights out here and there. I was a very young 20 year old with not much life experience, my ex was not a nice person and I found myself in with a crowd I couldn't quite handle myself in!

This girl messaged me (first time we've ever spoken one on one) as if we're massive friends, asking to borrow some money for a few days until she's paid. I ask how much (4 days before I was paid from my part time job alongside uni so I wasn't exactly rolling in it)

She said £25, I said okay send me your bank details then she said actually can I borrow £40, I again say okay and I'll ring my bank - then she asks can I not do mobile banking as it's faster. I had issues with my phone network and said I'd rather ring - 10 minutes later she messages again asking if it's done, I wasn't able to as she was a new payee - so she then asked for everyone I've transferred money to before so she could have it sent to them then sent on to her!

I stopped replying at this point (grew some balls and realised I was being taken advantage of here, it wasn't my responsibility to help her), I then get 8 calls and then a message to ask whether I'm in and where my address is so she could pick it up! I reply and say I have no cash sorry, she said is there a bank machine near you - at this point I just stop replying and she says 'thanks guess I'll ask my auntie then' - why not ask her in the first place instead of an acquaintance!

She posted some vague bitchy things on Facebook clearly aimed at me, and we've literally never spoken since. So strange!

at this point I just stop replying and she says 'thanks guess I'll ask my auntie then' - why not ask her in the first place instead of an acquaintance!

I suspect her auntie would've taken no nonsense and made her pay it back. You would have been very lucky to get back the money you "lent" her. 🌹

@Newestname002 I imagine I was just another mug on a long list of names she was trying her luck with! Luckily I am less of a doormat nowadays 😅

Your guests may have different recollections

Years ago we had a circle of friends (all new homeowners) who all took it in turns to host a day's gardening or DIY followed by a bbq kicking back and admiring our communal handiwork. Worked really well and it's amazing what you can achieve in a day with a load of people. Everybody got their turn for a makeover and no-one took this piss. Great times.

@Lululime2024

Could nobody in your family, including your partner/husband, rein in your uncaring sister and march her out? How could she, another mother - and your sister - not sympathise and act accordingly?

I'm so glad your daughter was OK in the end. 🌹

Not cheeky fuckery aimed just at me but I was a recipient of a round robin email, also shared on the local FB page - a local woman (friend of a friend) got her DS to front a gofundme to raise £2k for their dog’s life saving operation. Lots of pics of her sad faced DS and lovely dog. It really pulled on the heart strings and a number of people in the village donated, including a whip round at the local old people’s home which netted £70.

Her husband appears in the Times Rich List every year.

I work as a freelancer and live in X. My friend lives in Y. We were invited to submit a quote for a two day job in X. I provided a quote and my dear colleague undercut me. She found out what I quoted and undercut me by 100 quid. We are on friendly terms. She got the contract and then asked me if she could stay with me because she did not want to spend money on a hotel in X and save it together with the per diems.

That is quite the cheeky ask. Hope you wither said it didn't work for you or charged her all the per diems plus £100.

plumvioletrose · 17/05/2024 17:12

"What? Does he have no life of his own? Can't he go anywhere alone, without YOUR say so".

Said after I gave an absolute no with ultimatum when informed of her kindly "motherly" offer of a free holiday for just him.

Said by the much older woman from work who invited MY husband (we'd been together for 16 years at this point) on a two week free cruise, utilising his entire two weeks annual summer leave, with her and her daughter-in-law as her son "couldn't make it".

I don't know which one was supposed to get off with my darkly handsome 34 year old husband once they got him alone but enough had been said and done (gifts, compliments and stuff) in the previous few months to know it would have definitely been one of the two.

Cheeky fucker carried on trying to engineer other private interactions/whoops scenarios with him for years after also. It didn't even end when she retired, would still visit the workplace after she'd left and seek him out.

He was oblivious and just thought he reminded her of her (still alive and fully healthy) son. I knew better.

Who the fuck offers a random bloke from work a free cruise ticket worth thousands of pounds when she is on little more than minimum wage (her husband part financed the tickets) because he reminds her of her son. Bollocks to that.

I am not a cool wife and I do not care how that looks.

Karensalright · 17/05/2024 17:13

A whilst at work one.

I worked with other similar charity sector agencies and Reps from various agencies met frequently in different developmental working groups. (DV)

A fellow CEO, who I did not know socially, rang me whilst at work wanting to borrow £500, because she had run out of money.

She was always dressed to the nines in expensive designer clothes, and accessories.

I was gobsmacked and just said erm… I have no spare money. (I should have told her that she was being inappropriate)

Turned out she was embezzling the Charity she worked for to the tune of £150, 000, and went to prison for three years.

The Charity went in to insolvency, and closed down.

Just because it was funding her clothing habits.

Thank you! When it all came out we were both well into our 30s, and we were in a group of people who were all laughing and shocked at the exchange between us, but I don't think there was an apology, more of a 'what do you expect me to say?' sort of attitude, and someone changed the subject. She's never mentioned it again, but I am still holding a grudge about it and mention it sometimes to another mutual friend just to get it out again and vent!

MsFogi · 17/05/2024 17:18

Many years ago when I had one dc at nursery and one at school (so different places and times for drop offs and pick ups) one of the mums at the nursery (who I had never met/spoken to interacted with/been aware of etc etc) rang me to ask if I could do all the pick ups and drop offs for her dc at the nursery from September because she was having a second baby over the summer and it would be too much for her to deal with a new born and a nursery pick-up/drop off so she thought I could do it. Obviously I declined that great opportunity - repeatedly because she kept asking and she was really put out that I 'didn't want to help her out'.

How utterly appalling to call your partner's DD a spoilt, nasty bitch. What a piece of work you are....

If someone is a nasty spoiled bitch to you, you're entitled to call them out on it. Being someones daughter doesn't mean diddly fucking squat.

At a wedding my ex sil asked me to walk (in my heels, in the rain!) to Primark to get her some flip flops!

After I graduated (1999) I was looking for interviews and got one with Schlumberger, in Aberdeen. They do oil / gas / renewables survey, engineering and infrastructure installation. They paid my travel expenses and I was quite hopeful, as I had over a year of industrial placement experience.

There were 7 other graduates there, all from Oxbridge and Durham and they quickly decided that they weren't interested in talking to a peasant like me. We had a series of tests, some written, some practical. One was assembling a pump, in the dark; I was the only one to do it. One lad asked for a pair of gloves and another broke down crying.

The final step was to meet a panel, a woman flanked by two men. She began by saying, "We don't take people from your institution." I asked if they'd realised I was a graduate of that university and was told yes. I asked why they had interviewed me and if they were making an exception in my case.

"No, we just like to give people like you valuable interview experience."

I was fucking raging and let them have it. I told them they were fucking arrogant arses, wasting my time when I could have been going for a real interview. I told them I wouldn't work for fucking Slumberger (the don't like you calling them that) if they begged me, then stormed out. I was absolutely raging.

PossumintheHouse · 17/05/2024 17:29

I've got a fair few. The first one that comes to mind is a dreaded Facebook marketplace one.
A few years ago, we listed a really nice, but very heavy oak glass cabinet. A couple got in touch wanting to buy it and asked if we could deliver. We said yes, based on the fact they didn't live too far and it was on our route to work.
Very quickly it became apparent that they lived in a block of flats, so we made it clear that we could only deliver to the ground floor. "Oh, not a problem, there's a lift," CFucker breezily replied.
We arrived at the address the following evening and guess fucking what? Of course, the bloody lift was broken. And of course, they lived on the 17th floor. Rang the CFucker and told her we'd arrived, so could they come down to pick up the cabinet - while wondering why the hell they hadn't let us know the lift was broken so that we could rearrange or cancel - to be greeted with a 'Soooooo sorry, but my husband has hurt his back, can you just bring it up??'
Obviously we refused and pointed out we'd only agreed to ground floor delivery. She went absolutely mental, screaming that we were a pair of selfish twats and that she'd bothered to go out earlier to fetch cash for us. The stairs "weren't that hard" apparently, we should just take our time.
After we'd got home, I checked Facebook to find a message from her to say that the lift would be fixed by first thing the next morning and we could bring it around then, but they'd expect a discount due to our behaviour and the fact we were time wasters.
I no longer sell on Facebook marketplace.

I have told this story before, so apologies if it's familiar. I need to keep telling it until it's out of my system properly. When I was at school, a friend asked me if I would like to cover her sister's shift at the tearooms of the local stately home place they both worked at on a Sunday. She said they didn't get paid, it was just for tips. I quite enjoyed it in a way, but it was hard work. The tips were very few. I did it for a few weeks until I got sick of it for so little pay (I already had a Saturday job). It was basically a big favour for a friend / her sister.

I didn't think of it again really until years later, probably about 20 years later, when we were talking about the place. I said actually in retrospect wasn't it the most awful cheek of the Lady of he Manor woman to not pay us at all for that work? My friend said quick as a flash 'oh they paid us, what are you talking about?' then realised what she had said. It turned out that she and her sister both got paid, I didn't. So presumably her sister got the pay for the shift I covered! What also narked me was that her parents had set up the whole job thing and took us there in the car and back, knew the people we worked for, so they must have known I was being a total mug.

If I'd known at the time, I don't know what I would have done, but once I knew it seemed petty to go on about it as it was so long ago. It's now more like 50 years ago and I'm still friends (of sorts) with her, but I am still quietly fuming about it!

That’s appalling! I wouldn’t have worked someone else’s shifts (free) and wouldn’t have believed them at the time that they were doing it unpaid, I don’t think. But to admit it like that years later?! I wouldn’t have been able to let that go and would have called them out on it.

About 8 years ago an employee/friend was going on a fortnight's family holiday, they'd paid for the flights but had to pay the hotel when they got there, which they were planning to use her dh's sales commission for. She rang me crying the day before they went saying his commission was delayed and could we lend them £3000? Discussed with then h and agreed, gave them £3000 cash with the promise to repay when they returned. Whilst away she texted to say I'd accidentally given them £3020, just to make me aware, all good.

On their return the DH popped round with the cash, in an envelope, I said "£3020, yes?", he says "oops, yes", and pulls another loose £20 out his pocket! Not out his wallet, just his pocket, one £20 which suggested to me he'd been hoping to keep the extra if I hadn't remembered! They never even brought us back any duty free, no real thank you, after we'd basically saved their holiday. I suppose I should be grateful we got it back based on other cf stories!

A friend asked me to baby sit her child for the night. I agreed and said I would have him sleep over my place.
Well she didn't come back and collect her child for 3 days and ignored her phone.
Never did explain herself and I've not seen her since.

Genuinely I would have called social services

@SinnerBoy

people like you

I've always hated that phrase, including (said by a past boss who thought I wouldn't challenge him - especially in public), "your lot".

I would like to think that your very open and honest feedback challenge to the panel would have caused them to have an iota of personal circumspection or maybe even shame, but I doubt it. 🌹

So the real, bonding party, was at the pub.

Foolish of the 'hosts'. If they had asked/pre-warned their 'guests', AKA 'labourers' ahead of time and promised copious amounts of food and beer at stages through the day, they might have received a better result. 🌹

Yes, I was asked along with many friends to demolish an old outbuilding. Free and plentiful bbq all day then beer and more bbq after we had finished.
Quid pro quo and hands down the best bbq I ever went to.
The key was asking in advance and being ok with a no.

I have many cf stories, the most recent, a 'friend' wanted to borrow 50quid. She came to my door for it, and told me after her Morocco holiday she would repay, or bring me smokes back if she could.
I never saw her or my money or any smokes again.
It truly annoyed me because we were both skint, she knew me well, I would have given her it if she asked.

Another "friend" I took her kids swimming with mine, all young, under 10. When I asked her to return the favour, she said yes ok, but she never got in the water. 3 non swimmers and one who could just about swim and she never even got wet.
Stunned me. She never had them again. But to be fair I never had hers either.

thisoldcity · 17/05/2024 17:46

@Shinyandnew1 thank you! I was quite a gullible teenager I think and it wouldn't have crossed my mind that a friend would lie to me. The conversation we had years later was probably along the lines of upper class people taking advantage of the workers, or some such, and she jumped in to 'defend' the Lord and Lady Muck we had worked for, without thinking, when I gave that as an example. She certainly didn't mean to admit it at all and once she realised what she had said and saw my anger, she was pretty horrified (about what she had admitted to) but tried to laugh it off a bit. I was furious and went on about it for a bit at the time, so she knew how angry I was, but as we were in a group of people at the time at a social sort of get together, it wasn't really the time to have a shout at her, but I brooded on it the rest of the evening. And the next 50 years 😂
