There have been many but reading on another thread about the CFery of a school mum reminded me of a time when my DC were at primary.
A mum asked if I’d mind picking her DC up from school and taking them to another school a few miles away where they were competing in an intersports thing. My DC were competing too so I agreed assuming she was working.
When we got there, said mum was already there in the front row with her DH & DPs. I asked what was going on, she replied that they wanted a good seat and parking so didn’t want to wait until their DC finished school so they could get their first. I was absolutely stunned…I still laugh at the audacity of this years later🤣🤣

@Marcipex That does sound very CF but not sure why her losing two babies is relevant?

Marcipex · 27/05/2024 04:52

@Hotttchoc i suppose because I expected her to be more devoted to her precious baby than other mothers, not less, after the previous desperate grief.

Hotttchoc · 27/05/2024 07:55

@Marcipex I think that's probably true in some cases but probably not fair to hold mothers who lost babies to a different standard. She is a CF though!!

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but has anyone any idea how long it takes to drive from New York to Vancouver?

You'll never believe this - I've only just now arrived

I'm a registered childminder. Several years ago a woman( we'll call her Mrs Jones)rang and asked if I had any availability before and after school for her 4 children. I had a Mum going on maternity leave so thought it could help financially. The woman came later that day (I'd seen her around school but had never spoken to her)with just 2 of the children and started asking if I could have the children from the following Monday; she was a bit pushy and my gut feeling was not to take them on.
Anyway, once she'd gone I looked at what spaces I had available and would only be able to have the children one night a week so it just wasnt worth it. The only contact details I had for her was her work email, so I messaged her on that, telling her that I wouldn't be able to have her children. No paperwork had been filled in, no contact numbers exchanged, no details for the children, no payment made.....I didn't even know what the other 2 kids looked like or what their name's were. Didn't hear back from her,so I emailed again just to be sure and left it at that.
The following Monday, I dropped off a child at the reception class at school and the teacher said " Oh morning Hookie,I believe you're picking up Mrs. Jones' son from me later" ....

To cut a long story short, Mrs Jones had dropped her 4 kids at school, told each of the teachers that I was collecting her children from school, drove to the airport and hopped on a plane to Malaga for a jolly with her mates! School ended up ringing their dad, who was working nearly 200 miles away and had to drive back in time to collect them from school. God knows who would have collected them from me if I'd picked them up from school!
Apparently they were in the after school club but were asked to leave due to their behaviour ( the youngest is now at a PRU ).
And ironically....their Mum ( Mrs. Jones) owned and ran a children's nursery......

Wow. That’s awful. And it’s neglect. Hope Social Services were called.

ilovebagpuss · 28/05/2024 18:33

After learning to drive and buying a banger so that I could be free to get to work and back on my own time, I was pressured by an acquaintance to offer a lift to and from our local town.
They did offer to help with petrol money but it was different timing to my job and would have meant a lot of hanging about.
I said no and stuck to it but people were put out with me for not caving. Honestly some people just expect life to be made easy for them.
I also had endless examples when kids were little, the worst were after sleepovers when pick up was 11am say and parents rocked up at 2pm because they had taken the opportunity to have a nice lunch.
All the parents who bought siblings and random friends kids to parties and they stood waiting for party bags at the end when you only have a set amount made.

Sweden99 · 28/05/2024 18:52

@hookiewookie29. Sorry, what is a PRU?
And a shocking story!

hookiewookie29 · 28/05/2024 19:49

@Spaghettily I hope they were too! Rarely saw her at the school after that.

Pupil Referral Unit- where children with challenging behaviour go instead of school.
It really shocked me- thought I'd seen nearly everything in this job!

I had a mum I only knew by sight add me on Facebook, I don't normally add randoms but I thought it would be ok as i would have to see her every day for several years, it felt a bit awkward to decline it! A few weeks later she popped up in my inbox asking to borrow money, i was a bit shocked but thought she must be desperate to be asking! so I lent her £50 with an agreed repayment date of 2 weeks. Now I had still never actually spoken to this woman but i felt sorry for her. Daft I know, she obviously assumed I was a soft touch because 2 days later she was in my inbox again asking if i could take her 3 kids to school to which i said no! then a couple of days after that she asked if she could borrow more money again no! Then she popped up again asking if i could pick her kids up from school and take them back to mine still no!
She did pay the money back but the front of her was shocking, turns out she has form for being a CF.
One day she just disappeared upped and left with her kids never to be seen again!

Newestname002 · 30/05/2024 11:55

@mickandrorty

I'm glad you got money back - I was expecting her to do a flit with her children and your cash. Hopefully you'll say "No" to the next CF trying to get their fingers in your purse or foist their children on you. 🌹

I had exactly the same. Scammed by a parent from school asking to borrow money with a long and convoluted story attached. She was apparently waiting for the money as the state owed her a huge tax bill. Never repaid a penny and took care to avoid me.

ScruffMuffin · 30/05/2024 15:18

There was a woman on here a few years ago who'd been asked by some random if she might be able to do playdates or 'help' with her kids over the summer. Nothing concrete had actually been arranged. Then at the beginning of the summer holidays, the poster got a shock when the CF rocked up at the front door with her kids... apparently 'help' in her mind meant 'babysit my kids for free, for the entire six weeks'. I'm pretty sure the chancer was pissed off when the MNer explained that it wouldn't be possible!!
