TV Licence

How many people will own up to not having a Television Licence on MN?
with the absolute crap the BBC bombard us with over the last multiple years, I feel we should all boycott paying for it.
I purchased a license at 11-55 pm on the last day of the month of April, thinking it would start on the first day of the next month, Oh no, it was back dated to the first of April, what a con. for the sake of 5 minutes I was well & truly stuffed.

We don't have a TV license but to be honest have watched three things on TV in the past twelve months. I think one was a rugby game on ITV, then we watched the Kings Coronation as well as the Remembrance Day Parades.

liverpoolgal82 · 14/05/2024 16:27

Nope! I watch Netflix if I ever put the tv on.

ZipZapZoom · 14/05/2024 16:30

I will admit to not having a license because I genuinely don't watch live TV. There's more than enough on Netflix and Disney + to keep us entertained.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 14/05/2024 16:33

As above we haven’t had a licence for about 8 years now as don’t watch anything live, either catch up on itv or channel 4 if it’s something I REALLY want to watch but mainly Netflix etc

i think it is outdated and should move to a subscription model or show adverts

the80sweregreat · 14/05/2024 16:38

I've always had one , people say ' your mad '
I just rather watch live tv and it's cheaper than sky tv

TakeOnFlea · 14/05/2024 16:38

God no. I don't want adverts on the bloody radio. That's the main reason I'm never tempted away in the end 🤣

I think the bbc offer a decent package. I don't like them as an institution but I don't like Netflix as a company either and I watch plenty of that.

The good news is, if you don't want it then you don't have to have it. I do want it and won't be "boycotting" because some random on MN doesn't like it 🤷🏽‍♀️

Nothankyou22 · 14/05/2024 16:39

I have t had one in years but I rarely watch tv and when I do it’s Netflix or ITVX

SnoqualmieRiver · 14/05/2024 16:47

We haven't had one in years nor have we watched any televising in years preferring g YouTube and other websites to watch shows, documentaries, news and films.

The BBC is just woke left wing propaganda that often employs wrong 'uns.

AlmondNutbutter · 14/05/2024 16:48

I enjoy watching live TV, hate adverts and practically only watch live TV and use BBC iplayer. I have had Disney plus and Netflix in the past, but after the first 6 months honeymoon period, I got bored and went back to the BBC.

I get that the BBC programmes and radio stations I enjoy have to be paid for somehow.

And I'm really looking forward to all the Olympic coverage later this year.

DizzyBumble · 14/05/2024 16:54

TV licence is so over priced when you compare the cost of it to subscription services. Would much rather have adverts or pay a lower license fee

You shouldn’t have assumed, and could have read the form you filled in:

Buy your licence now and it will start today. You'll then be covered for the rest of this month and 11 months after that.

This sentence should have told you that purchasing at 23:55 on the last day of the month would give you 11 months and 5 minutes

TV Licence

We boycotted years ago but very the GROSS disparity in salaries of top earnings between men and women.

Highly recommend everyone get a No License Needed Claim, saved a ton and not missed at thing that wasn't later available on Netflix and the like.

My mother was being charged double for years which was only discovered by her by mistake but never rectified by the BBC. You bet they still had a system for tracking household IDs that don't pay and I received a very aggressive phone call saying I would be protected if I didn't pay - and I was very smug giving them my reference number for my No License Needed form 🙄

You know the politics of the people who run the BBC, yes?
Why do people still spout this nonsense?

beguilingeyes · 14/05/2024 17:11

Laura Kuenssberg and Fiona Bruce are sooooo left wing it makes my teeth hurt (eye roll).
I'm quite happy to pay my licence fee..Detectorists/Gavin and Stacey/ Happy Valley/60 years of Doctor Who just sitting there.
If you don't want it then don't have it. Most of Netflix and Prime are shite...we have both. And it seems to me every time I want to want something on Prime they want extra money.

Kalevala · 14/05/2024 17:12

Own up? I don't use what they are selling so why would I pay for it?

Sunshin80 · 14/05/2024 17:16

Nope I don't have one either. Only as the children don't watch anything live and neither do i. Rarely get chance. However I wouldn't pay for one any way

Atroo · 14/05/2024 17:17

I don’t have one as I don’t watch live tv (or iplayer)

Cherryon · 14/05/2024 17:18

Haven’t had one since 2007. We dont watch live TV or BBC iplayer.
It’s better for the DC too to not have been bombarded with CBeebies crap growing up

buffyslayer · 14/05/2024 17:19

I have one. I watch tv and iPlayer

Terrribletwos · 14/05/2024 17:25

I had one when the kids were little as I didn't like the idea of telling them not to answer the door in case it was tv licensing people. One day, I did get a knock but luckily I had paid and could prove it.

Now, on my own, I don't watch live TV and just ignore the monthly threatening letters.

I totally agree with this

childlessandfree · 14/05/2024 18:27

I dont have a tv.

mcdonaldschip · 14/05/2024 18:31

I have a TV license but I have a TV package with BT so we do watch live TV (mainly cbeebies).

It was double the cost for the first six months as they get you to pay for the first year during that time, and then it drops to the regular monthly price after that. I think that's a bit shit, and I doubt I'd get an extra six months if I cancel.

Precipice · 14/05/2024 18:32

I've never had one. I don't watch TV. I don't have any subscription to anything either, as I wouldn't get much use out of one. It's very rare for me to watch anything, and then I watch DVDs or things online (not iplayer).

ObsidianTree · 14/05/2024 18:38

Was paying for a TV licence for many years before I realised we don't actually watch any live tv. Cancelled it now. Last time it was watched was when my son was a baby and he enjoyed cbeebees.

The only thing I might want to watch would be the Euros football, but will probably miss it as I don't want to pay for a tv licence just for that. They're got enough free money from me
