Only Fools and Horses (the cluttered but very cozy looking flat), all the lovely friendships and Grandad's dinners ♥️

Downton Abbey (something about it makes me want to get into bed on a dark night with the lamp on)

The Crown. The music just mesmerizes me

Gavin and Stacey. So much love and affection in both families

Derek with Ricky G. Again, so much love in that care home

(Side note - I absolutely love Friends but wouldn't say it relaxes me or that I'd want to be in their shoes. Too much dating / job struggling! More of a Saturday afternoon thing than Sunday night viewing... oh never mind I know what I mean)

Most tecently I have said to DH that I feel the world is a better place for me with Professor T in it, and knowing I can watch it whenever I want to. I love it.

The 1995 production of Pride and Prejudice mentioned by a previous poster was a true friend to me in 2013. It got me through the night, wrapped up and intermittently dozing on the sofa, when I didn't know if DH was living or dead in a foreign intensive care unit. It got me through till daybreak, when I could speak to someone more sensible. I will be forever grateful.

Edited

God, that must have been utterly terrifying @SeatonCarew.

I second the 1995 P&P, also Persuasion with Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds and Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet.

Then Ab Fab and Vicar of Dibley. Keeping Mum.

And for murder mystery with warm feels, New Tricks and Jonathan Creek.

Friday Night Dinner!

Definitely...one of my favourites

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/05/2024 11:42

Dad's Army - takes me back to my childhood, but I find it still stands up remarkably well
Death in Paradise
Beyond Paradise (not as good as DiP, but nice effortless viewing)
Poirot (ITV version with David Suchet, endlessly repeated on ITV3 and there must be lots of them on ITVX)
BBC Miss Marple with Joan Hickson, assuming it's available somewhere

TheSweetestHalleluja · 13/05/2024 11:46

This Is Us, absolutely loved this series for the warmth and cosiness, so much love in that family.

florenceandthemac · 13/05/2024 11:49

Jonathan creek
Auf wiedersehn pet
Minder

I haven't seen anyone mention Auf Wiedersehen, Pet for years! Series Three is one of my go-to DVDs.

Others would be the first seven series of New Tricks, MASH, Hamish Macbeth, the first series of Due South, and most of all the original Time Team.

ETA and the 1995 Pride and Prejudice, and the Barchester Chronicles - early Alan Rickman as the gloriously slimy Obadiah Slope.

I forgot:

  • Pie in the Sky with Richard Griffiths and Maggie Steed. He played a detective/chef/restauranteur and also appeared in the Harry Potter films as his Uncle Vernon Dursley. Now sadly deceased. Lovely gentle programme 🌹
IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 13/05/2024 14:43

The Detectorists

Gavin and Stacey

Ted Lasso

I might just watch these 3 on repeat for ever.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 13/05/2024 14:51

I watched Gavin and Stacey from beginning to end in the weird "twixstmas" time whilst dog sitting for dm whilst she was in hospital for her first chemo treatment. Just me and the dog for 20 episodes on repeat for 4 days. Covid restrictions meant I couldn't visit.

This is what came to mind as soon as I saw the thread title. It’s just lovely. It doesn’t make me want to go fishing but does make me appreciate friendships and family and our beautiful country. The music is beautiful and it’s just such a feel good show.

Absolutely agree with this, it's such a lovely programme and wouldn't matter if the topic was fishing or car maintenance or flower arranging or anything else, it's just lovely being in their company. I felt similarly about the Hairy Bikers.

IsThePopeCatholic · 13/05/2024 15:10

Ghosts

Mrsjayy · 13/05/2024 15:17

Oh I forgot Ghosts it is joyous.

Sunsetsandcocktails · 13/05/2024 15:19

Absolutely love OFAH it’s my fave show ever.

Jonathan Creek
The Royle Family
Vicar of Dibley
Keeping Up Appearances
One Foot in the Grave
Gavin and Stacey
The Hotel Inspector

There was a series called Scarborough with Jason Manford and Catherine Tyldesley in it which was really gentle. I quite liked it.

Happy Valley and Broadchurch (even though they are a bit dark!)

Comedycook · 13/05/2024 17:58

Don't know if anyone here remembers a show from the 1990s called Next of Kin... starring Penelope Keith. It's about a retired couple who take in their three grandchildren after their parents die. It's a lovely watch.

stayathomer · 13/05/2024 18:00

Modern family and any dog programmes!!

Rubybetsie · 13/05/2024 18:05

Two doors down and Ted Lasso

LyndaSnellsSniff · 13/05/2024 18:09

To The Manor Born
The Darling Buds of May
The Durrells
The House of Eliott
Detectorists
You Rang M'Lord
Ghosts
Strictly
Blackadder
dinnerladies
Downton Abbey
Call The Midwife (early series)
The stop motion animated series of The Wind In The Willows from the early 80s. 😊 It's utterly joyful.

For many of these, I think It's the theme tune. They are instantly relaxing. For others, it's good childhood memories.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 13/05/2024 18:10

Also, The Borrowers!

LieutOliviaBenson · 13/05/2024 18:12

Golden Girls
Different Strokes
Friends
HIMYM
Moonlighting.

Crummles · 13/05/2024 18:24

Definitely All Creatures, even though I was very anti the new series initially

Morse, to some extent Lewis, most episodes of Endeavour
Countryfile
Winter Walks
Fake or Fortune

Igneococcus · 13/05/2024 18:27

We love it so much, I walked down the "aisle" (it was a wedding in the woods) to the theme tune.

I saw Johnny Flynn live in Edinburgh a few days ago, it was a fabulous concert, he didn't play the Detectorist theme tune though.
