Only Fools and Horses (the cluttered but very cozy looking flat), all the lovely friendships and Grandad's dinners ♥️

Downton Abbey (something about it makes me want to get into bed on a dark night with the lamp on)

The Crown. The music just mesmerizes me

Gavin and Stacey. So much love and affection in both families

Derek with Ricky G. Again, so much love in that care home

(Side note - I absolutely love Friends but wouldn't say it relaxes me or that I'd want to be in their shoes. Too much dating / job struggling! More of a Saturday afternoon thing than Sunday night viewing... oh never mind I know what I mean)

Gone Fishing with Paul Whitehouse & Bob Mortimer.

I have no interest in fishing, but the show is really wholesome and funny, when it finishes you just feel better than you did before it started.

This is what came to mind as soon as I saw the thread title. It’s just lovely. It doesn’t make me want to go fishing but does make me appreciate friendships and family and our beautiful country. The music is beautiful and it’s just such a feel good show.

We love it so much, I walked down the "aisle" (it was a wedding in the woods) to the theme tune.

Awww, that sounds perfect!

Sourisblanche · 13/05/2024 06:23

The Durrells and any programme about moving to a warmer climate to set up a business like Escape to the Chateau DIY.

Emily in Paris.

  • The Repair Shop (really helped me during lockdown one, on my own)
  • Gogglebox (makes me laugh and I'm fascinated by other people's lives and homes)
  • Graham Norton's chat show. I love it when the guests just take over the show and get comfortable with each other
  • The Poirot series with David Suchet and the Miss Marple series with the different Marple leads
  • the David Attenborough nature programmes as well as one programme he did with the late Queen Elizabeth II walking around the gardens of Buckingham Palace, talking about the plants and trees there and the history behind them. They were like a couple of old friends perfectly in sync with each other.

Here we Go and The Witchfinder on BBC are great comfort comedies. Here we Go in particular I think is really underrated, the comedy is in every scene from Cherry's pouting at the camera and the families exasperated looks at each other to the more obvious stuff and even some slapstick moments. It takes a few episodes to grow into itself, I think people are watching the first one or two and going this is crap but the second series in particular is hilarious.

I also love a Sunday night drama like Downton Abbey, Poldark. Bridgerton! New series is out in a few days.

As time goes by

Damnyourheadshoulderskneesandtoes · 13/05/2024 07:10

Oh how could I forget, Gardeners World. When I hear the music, the birds chirping at the start and Monty's 'hello' it's instant relaxation.

Damnyourheadshoulderskneesandtoes · 13/05/2024 07:14

Beyond Paradise and Death in Paradise too. Beyond Paradise is a bit soapy but the scenery, the music and some of the characters are just pure comfort TV.

Justleaveitblankthen · 13/05/2024 07:14

Anything voiced by David Attenborough. Utter bliss 😍🐘

GameOfJones · 13/05/2024 07:16

I love having a cup of tea and watching Call The Midwife, Beechgrove Garden or The Repair Shop.

For food programmes, Stanley Tucci Searching For Italy, Rick Stein's Cornwall or Somebody Feed Phil (Phil is just lovely and infectiously funny.) I'd also add anything with the Hairy Bikers but am still upset about Dave Myers passing away.

For comedies. Outnumbered, The Vicar of Dibley and Ghosts.

I've recently started watching the cruising travel programmes with Jane McDonald or Susan Calman. There's just something nice and gentle about them.

Nightblindness · 13/05/2024 07:22

Clarkson's Farm. The new series is even softer and feelgood than ever.
