Do you ever go shopping cos you're bored?

I was wandering round waitrose and B&M today and i realised i was only doing it cos i was bored. Don't get me wrong i did get things i needed, but it was just nice to get out the house and away from the football on telly.
Does anyone else do this?

Yes. I love wandering about B & M and Home Bargains.

TokyoSushi · 12/05/2024 18:30

Oh very much so, we live a short drive from a 'big M&S' which is my go to bored wander place!

BirthdayRainbow · 12/05/2024 18:30

I used to but now I can't muster up the effort. I watched the football for a bit, paused it and walked the dog then watched the rest when I got back. Shopping now is a must. Not something to do when bored.

Never, I can’t think of anything worse!

OnehundredStars · 12/05/2024 18:38

Absolutely! Lidl is open til 10 and I often go about 9.30

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/05/2024 18:40

I do like to wander round shops like B&M or Home Bargains on a Friday , way too busy on a Saturday .

I do have a Self Imposed Rule never to buy clothes if I'm feeling sad/angry/pissed off as when I wear them I will be reminded of my pissed off-edness.

MuggleMe · 12/05/2024 18:40

In terms of going for a walk to the corner shop at lunch time rather than round the block yes, I usually have a nap if I'm feeling bored at the weekend!

Bluevelvetsofa · 12/05/2024 18:40

I used to. Now I can’t afford to, in case I forget I’m window shopping and buy something.

SonicTheHodgeheg · 12/05/2024 18:41

I’ve seen “Shopping is my cardio” on more than one social media bio.

mycatsanutter · 12/05/2024 18:41

B&m yes I I've a wander in there by myself 😀

CJ0374 · 12/05/2024 18:41

No- not since I was early 20's! I only shop with a purpose now to get something specific that I need.

However- I've recently moved into a house having spent over 2yrs renovating and living in a caravan the entire time. I've never had a house to decorate and do find myself wizzing into shops and then seeing that they also do homewares and think 'hmm, I must come back and look again when I have time'.

MasterShardlake · 12/05/2024 18:46

Never, I've always found shopping incredibly boring,

ssd · 12/05/2024 18:47

I love a wander and usually a chat to someone. I work in a shop, i should be sick of them!!

Of course. I think most people do, maybe not the same shops as each other but browsing for fun is definitely a thing.

Elebag · 12/05/2024 18:50

No. I live almost in the town centre so I nip in most days after work.

EasilyDeterred · 12/05/2024 18:52

Yes, I love shopping, even if I don't buy anything, always have done. I like being out and about amongst other people and its nice when you bump into someone you know and stop for a chat. Only do online when I really have to.

RandomUsernameHere · 12/05/2024 18:53

No, I don't enjoy shopping at all and do pretty much all of it online.

QueSyrahSyrah · 12/05/2024 18:55

Never. I find shopping deathly tedious, with the exception of charity shopping because I get a bit of a thrill when I find something great. I'd rather watch paint dry than needlessly go to B&M.

TheFutureMrsWolowitz · 12/05/2024 18:55

No. Never.

But I binge eat and binge drink when i am bored.

Shopping is probably less damaging to physical health tbh (no idea about financially though- I can spend a good £50 a binge session. Uusally average out at a tenner a day though).

Sladuf · 12/05/2024 19:04

Definitely. I visited a supermarket late evening before they shut out of boredom a lot during lockdown 1. It might sound daft but it did me good to have an excuse to get out of the house. I was furloughed at the time and bored senseless.
It was bliss when I went at that time too; never had to queue or worry about the daft one way systems due to very few other people shopping.

I went last Wednesday night to relieve boredom. I was on holiday and the others were content to watch crap on TV for the fifth night on the trot. I preferred to go for a drive and mooch about the nearest Tesco.

Osllo · 12/05/2024 19:20

Not really. If I need to get something like clothes then I might make an afternoon of it and look at homewares shops as well. I don't like shopping enough to do it just for the sake of it.

I have literally never done this and not sure I know many if any who do!

ALunchbox · 12/05/2024 19:30

Absolutely hate it so no. Only go if I specifically need something.
I'm very surprised people actually enjoy B&M and Home bargains rather than endure them!

Seriously? People go to the shops for fun and not because they need to buy things? I don't believe 'most people' do that.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/05/2024 19:59

But I see people on S&B buying £100s of clothes and "they're all going back"

Shoppers still want to shop . Online gives the outlet to purchase to scratch that itch but the reassurance that it can all be returned .
Physical stores only need to refund if faulty or not fit for purpose .

I wonder how much online shopping is done due to boredom. ?
