Nothing here even with a camera. I think we missed it. I didn't hear about it until about midnight.

Same. Gutted. Just read they were advising people to look about 2am, so might look then.

BabbleBee · 11/05/2024 01:07

Absolutely stunning. I woke all the kids up to show them!

NE England, some in my back garden and some from the coast a 5 min drive away. Absolutely amazing.

It was still going strong at 2-3am. You had to look south though, weirdly!

I could see huge shifting white/grey beams and curtains, but they were not coloured except very slightly. I understand about using a phone now, but did anyone see them bright in the sky just with the naked eye?

Once I knew where to look I could see swathes of greenish colour in the sky but it was quite faint and I might not have spotted it without taking the photos first. The purple colours really only came out strongly when photographed

3catsandcounting · 11/05/2024 15:31

We took some amazingly colourful pics with our phone, as did half our neighbourhood. I would've been very disappointed had I just looked at the sky with the naked eye.

North East England, people had parked to look over a field and point and take pictures - mine are not great!

Apparently it's happening again tonight, if you can get to the coast it seems to be where the best view was a lot of people headed there. My dd was there she said it was unbelievable.

EasternStandard · 11/05/2024 15:37

Yes, if the stats hold and the skies are clear.

Download the AuroraWatch app for notifications - it should be visible from about an hour after sunset.

Apologies for this. Just to say it wasn't trolling or anything, it was a link to an album of photos I took last night of the northern lights but not a way that I'd used before and as soon as I clicked on it there was my name etc! Oops. (So I reported myself).
Hopefully will return shortly with a selection of my favourites, which I'll just post direct now! 😂 what a wally!

TBH looking right now at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) data that is the source for a lot of the apps the overall picture is not looking as promising tonight as it was this time last night for the UK as a whole.

Sadly that’s sort of the normal sequence with really the big displays; night two generally doesn’t match night one, but you do get rare outliers.

Things could change over the next few hours so it’s definitely worth looking.

MegsNaiceJam · 11/05/2024 00:56

Have we completely missed it? We got some photos that were pink tinged but only in the last 20 mins as we didnt know about it.

You should see them tonight too- if it’s not cloudy!

Ooh thank you! Will go and look. Patchy cloud here but worth venturing out I think.
