How many emails are in your work inbox?

I tried really hard to keep mine tidy in my new job, but it’s at 462 right now.
I might try and file them all.

I’m nosey, what’s normal? Does everyone else manage to keep it to unread only?

8,811

2 😂

I file everything away when it’s done 👍 I never used to be like that, but when I got my current job I decided to turn a new leaf. Previous jobs inbox was a shit show 😅

SwedishEdith · 08/05/2024 14:57

33,121. Of which 4,075 are unread.

Blixem · 08/05/2024 14:57

I currently have 13. I had 300+ at the start of the week but made it my mission to sort it and now it looks so much calmer!

Revelatio · 08/05/2024 14:58

About 15,000 unread emails. No idea how many emails in total, I don’t often delete unless is just a meeting acceptance or out of office response.

TooMinty · 08/05/2024 14:59

Total of 30,978

But only 1 unread.

Cheeesus · 08/05/2024 14:59

Looks like people tend to be one extreme or the other then!

No idea total as everything is filed in the folder for theproject. Only outstanding emails are in inbox, which is usually between 5-10. Always file evwrything on friday afternoons

reabies · 08/05/2024 15:00

17 - but tomorrow is my last day in this job so I've been winding down. I am a massive filer of emails though so usually only have one page in my inbox at any one time. I action things as soon as they come in, either deleting, filing, or categorising based on what needs doing to it.

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/05/2024 15:01

Yuk. And they are all important because I removed all the fluff.

TheTempest · 08/05/2024 15:01

I have no idea as I’m off work at the moment after an op. I try to have them cleared at the end of every week if I can, I file them as soon as I’ve done them though to keep on top of them.

Unread that is. I have thousands in there read.

KenAdams · 08/05/2024 15:02

Never more than 10! Don't people file their emails?!

Fulshaw · 08/05/2024 15:02

9,053 of which 1 is unread

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 08/05/2024 15:02

11 - side folders hold a few more, but only if absolutely needed.

File them where? If I need one, I search by keyword.

NDornotND · 08/05/2024 15:03

60645, 42836 unread. tbf my work email is also my everything else email.

TokyoSushi · 08/05/2024 15:04

7, I'm a filer, apparently there's 4103 total though.

BigDahliaFan · 08/05/2024 15:06

6000....oops.

Agree, the only ones that are filed are on an automatic process (they go straight to that folder as I get between 10-200 notifications a day and it just fills up my inbox - these are mostly unread!). The search function in outlook is much better now so there is no need to file them, waste of time.

I’m trying, but don’t know what to do with ones that still need attention. How do you handle those?

OP posts:
TeenLifeMum · 08/05/2024 15:12

I don’t file them as I like to be able to search my in box so it has about 10 years worth of emails 😂 about 20 unread but it’ll be zero unread by the time I leave on Friday.

I don’t really understand why you’d spend time filing emails. Occasionally I save an email thread in a folder if others might need it and is confirming something but only a hand full of times a year.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 08/05/2024 15:15

9, everything else is filed.

Edited

I’m actually wondering if there is any point for my.

Wasn't filing email what we did before the search got good? Isn't it a bit old fashioned?
