Ok this sounds nuts but I was just talking to my American next door neighbour who was horrified at the whole idea of squash or cordial. I didn't realise it's just not a thing in the US. She thought it was mad that you put some liquid in the bottom of a glass then fill it with water. They have these gross-sounding super sugary powders instead. Anyway we fell about laughing because she said I'd failed to sell it to her. So do your best
tell an American why Brits give their families orange squash

....go!

Off topic but does anyone remember a kind of ground rice pudding in a box also called Cremola? Wasn't it a brown and yellow box with swirly, almost 1970s style writing?

Same firm apparently! They did custards, ground rice desserts and angel delight rip offs.

Rocks squash 😋

Cold squash is more refreshing than plain water (which I drink plenty of)
Hot squash is comforting when cold or under the weather.
It lasts ages, longer than juice and is cheaper. It tastes different because it's made with whole fruit (e.g. including orange peel) so isn't always just the juice content from fruit.

I miss the likes of Vimto and Ribena before they were contaminated with artificial sweeteners and stealth-dieted.
It's annoying having to go off on special trips to particular supermarkets to get proper squash because many supermarkets don't sell uncontaminated full-sugar squash since the sugar tax.

I don't get it - I think it tastes horrendous Grin

Beargrumps22 · 08/05/2024 18:49

hot vimto is nice too
we always have a selection of drinks squash type like vimto and orange and mango usually plus whatever we can see on offer plus sugar free cans of various types
squash is quick and easy powders not so much

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 08/05/2024 18:54

Does anyone know why it's called squash ?

No, it was meant to be a drink, but it became popular at my school to stick fingers in and lick off Envy

Found it - Rise & Shine!

Diluting juice not squash!!!!

And creamola foam was great, used to eat the orange one straight out the tin...

Well that gave me fewer headaches than the sweeteners in diluting juice did so a sensible progression. 🤣

I live on squash - I tolerate plain water but that's it. Squash is basically fruity water but with no added sugar & very refreshing. My favourite right now is peach & raspberry!
