Some kind of church register that the public can access? Is it possible ?

Why?

ByUmberViewer · 06/05/2024 09:05

No but a school admissions board might ask to see a copy of it

MargaretThursday · 06/05/2024 09:10

There are church registers of hatches, matches and dispatches, but I don't think they're public.
If it relates to you, then you can request a record, I think, but don't know if you're allowed otherwise.
The registers were kept in a safe at the place I worked because they're legal documents.

Don't they have a halo? 😇

Do you mean children that have been baptised?

No, they don't.

Bumblebee907 · 06/05/2024 09:12

Why

Redlocks28 · 06/05/2024 09:13

If you are stating your child has been baptized on a school admissions form, you will usually need a letter from whoever did it.

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 06/05/2024 09:13

Throw holy water at them and if it burns they haven't been baptised.

PurBal · 06/05/2024 09:13

Yes, there are baptism registers. You can ask for a search of registers at a particular church. There is a cost. You need to know which church though (and rough date is helpful).

Kittybelle123 · 06/05/2024 09:25

It depends on the age of the person / if they are still living.

If the person is under 18 the parent would have to obtain the information, if they are over 18 they would be able to get the information themselves. If YOU are trying to get information on a living person you would have to ask them to contact the church.

For the Catholic Church there is not one central register of baptism, you have to approach each individual church who keep the records (unless they are very old and have gone into archives).

They would need to have an idea of roughly where and when they were baptised and start contacting the churches in the area.

If the person is no longer living the church would be able to give the information to you, however you would need again to have a rough idea of where they may have been baptised and go down that route.

Spirallingdownwards · 06/05/2024 09:27

The family will have had a baptism certificate if you are trying to allege a baptism for school admissions!

OpusGiemuJavlo · 06/05/2024 09:31

Each individual church keeps a register of baptisms but you'd habe to know which church to check. Depends why you need it. If someone wants to be sure they have been baptised and there's uncertainty about whether or not they have already been baptised there's a form of ceremony which can be used to baptise them

x2boys · 06/05/2024 09:32

As pp,s have said if it's for school places ,the school usually request a Copy of the baptism certificate

BusyCM · 06/05/2024 09:35

Why don't people give context in their OPs anymore?

Clementinepippa · 06/05/2024 09:38

Its because I was told by a family friend that I wasn’t invited to a baptism, if this is true it’s a really big deal as we are a very religious family and if this was the case I’m going to be devastated. I’ve had no issues myself with anyone in the family but there has been an atmosphere when I’ve seen family recently as I moved a long way away due to work and my siblings were very unhappy as they’ve had to pick up a lot of caring duties for our parents now (I used to do it myself but moved and offered to help fund it but that wasn’t good enough). I’ve now heard I’ve been excluded from family events (as well as the baptism there were 2 other more minor events but the baptism really upsetting me if true)

Sorry I was asking a question I thought it was better to be direct as the circumstances don’t change if it’s possible or not to find out but I’ve added details now

It is a public ceremony, you dont need to be invited

Unabletomitigate · 06/05/2024 09:43

Why not ask the people involved if it happened, and why you were not invited.

I thought better to find out then mention also I was told they’d just deny it.

@Clementinepippa are your family "punishing" you for moving away by excluding you from family celebrations?

How petty.

I’ve never been asked this before neither has my daughters when my grandchildren have registered for school

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 06/05/2024 09:48

Do you have anyone from the church you are friends with? Could you ask them?

cranberrypi · 06/05/2024 09:48

If the baptism is that recent, then surely just look back at the church newletters on line?

cranberrypi · 06/05/2024 09:49

Unlikely people would deny it though
