How long do you keep birthday cards up?

As the title says, how long do you keep birthday cards up on the mantelpiece? A day? 48 hours? Week? Longer?

(Not sure when I last wrote the word mantelpiece either!)

OP posts:

Usually a week

faceoff2000 · 04/05/2024 08:44

Christmas - until 27th December ish
Birthday/ valentines/ anniversary - 7-10 days
Sympathy - until after funeral
New baby - 2-3 weeks

Talipesmum · 04/05/2024 08:46

About a week, but sometimes I forget they’re there and they stick around for ages. Wouldn’t take them down if it was less than a week.

dontforgetme · 04/05/2024 08:47

7 days here too.

whoami24601 · 04/05/2024 08:48

Until the next person's birthday/ event. Depending on the time of year that can be 3 days or 4 months 🙈 a clear fireplace is not my priority!

TokyoSushi · 04/05/2024 08:48

About a week

Hoglet70 · 04/05/2024 08:48

Sometimes they don't even make it to the mantelpiece (My mum thinks this makes me ungrateful and I'm not honestly, I just can't cope with cards everywhere).

TheSnowyOwl · 04/05/2024 08:49

Until a week after the event at most.

Dacadactyl · 04/05/2024 08:49

About a week.

It's generally when they start getting blown down by a gust of wind when someone shuts a door and I can't be bothered to stand them back up straight. At that point I think "these cards are doing my head in" and I put them in the recycling.

Nicebloomers · 04/05/2024 08:50

Same!

CrushingOnRubies · 04/05/2024 09:45

2 weeks ish

Elphame · 04/05/2024 10:19

Until the person who gave it to me has gone home.

Those that come in the post go more or less straight into recycling.

Not a fan at all. I find them untidy and annoying.

Wolfpa · 04/05/2024 10:22

They don’t go up, people who know me know not to send one as I think they are a waste.

Begby6789 · 04/05/2024 10:25

Still got my mother's day cards up

NotJohnMajor · 04/05/2024 10:27

About a week.

SnapdragonToadflax · 04/05/2024 10:29

One to two weeks, or sometimes until the next event we get cards for if they're close together.

I don't mind them at all, just when they start falling over they bug me. My house is not immaculate so they blend in 😂

memyselfi · 04/05/2024 10:33

Months , I love cards.

MayLou · 04/05/2024 10:33

usually 1 week.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 04/05/2024 10:37

Until I’m dusting wherever it is - usually sideboard or top of the piano - no mantelpiece alas.
NB I don’t dust very often!

CrushingOnRubies · 04/05/2024 10:40

Actually I framed a birthday card. It was hand made and beautiful and it's hanging on the wall? Does that count as still having a birthday card up

longtompot · 04/05/2024 10:43

Two weeks

Tlolljs · 04/05/2024 10:46

Depends when the recycling is due to be collected.

NeedWineNow · 04/05/2024 10:50

Christmas cards - until the decorations come down before 12th night
Birthday/anniversary cards - a week

As we don't have children we don't have Mothers/Fathers Day cards, and we've given up on Valentine's Cards as well.
