How long do you keep birthday cards up?

As the title says, how long do you keep birthday cards up on the mantelpiece? A day? 48 hours? Week? Longer?

(Not sure when I last wrote the word mantelpiece either!)

My aldult kids don't live with me but when they did it was easy as there's a week between their birthdays so daughters came down when sons went up and his stated a week too. Mine a couple of days. Christmas cards I hardly get any anymore as it's all messages and I'm not home usually.

Christmas ones don't go up.
Other ones a couple of days.
I wish the habit of sending cards would die out.

Until the next person's Birthday, Christmas, whatever, I don't get many

A month. They're cheerful.

once read they go straight into the re-cycling bin.

Always a full calendar month. No idea why but any less seems wasteful.

About a week. Sadly no mantelpiece so they go on the windowsill & the piano

About three weeks, although my daughter got loads for her birthday as she had a big party so taken half of them down early.

Birthday for me means the day and in the bin the following day.

They go in the recycling they don't go up, unless they're from the kids. Pointless clutter imo. We used to get maybe a hundred Christmas cards and they'd all be displayed but over time the number has dwindled and they're a bit of annoyance.

Straight to the bin I'm afraid.

Christmas cards - from arrival to just after new year, when everything else is cleared away. It all gets cleared when we have had the last Christmas ‘visitor’ or if it’s all done by new year, then just after new year.

Other celebrations like birthdays are either a week if I’m feeling organised and tidy up to a month if I’m not!

So do you open them, go ooh that’s nice, then straight in the recycling? Why?

Do the people sending them know this? Maybe ask them not to bother as imo people put a fair amount of thought and effort into doing this. I wouldn’t bother for people who don’t appreciate it.

This is us too - works well in the winter as we have three family birthdays in consecutive months followed by Christmas, but then one in the spring with a big gap after. Those ones are still up now after a couple of months, in fact you've just prompted me to get off my backside and clear them up!
