Low calorie satisfying sweet treats

I am an absolute chocolate and sugar fiend. I'm trying to keep it in check but I've accepted that quitting sugar altogether isn't happening for me right now.

At the end of the day I need something sweet! Something that isn't a share bag of peanut m&ms for example.

I like a couple of chocolate covered rice cakes (that's still 164 calories ffs!!!) or a couple of Abernethy biscuits (only slightly better calorie-wise). Also love a large handful of marshmallows.

What are your calorie-conscious treats if you have a raging sweet tooth?

Sometimes I grate some chocolate on fruit and greek yogurt which can help. But sometimes for me it just has to be choclate...Milky Way bars (the small ones) only have something like 96 calories and are reasonably satisfying so I rely on those! Blue Ribband bars are under 100 calories too!
I recently discovered fhe Fibre One range of snack bars and they are prettt nice suprisingly and have lots of varieties.

BartlebyArcher · 04/05/2024 23:40

I see a few suggestions for icecream already. I can add the suggestion of a full size Solero at 98 calories. Feels very filling; still rather have a Magnum though!

Verbena17 · 05/05/2024 00:19

I’ve switched to eating low carb due to almost being diagnosed with diabetes.
So now, a treat for me is 0% Greek yoghurt or an Arla strawberry
Protein yoghurt, with a spoon of almond butter, mixed seeds and berries or grated apple on top.

Once you take processed carbs and sugar mostly out of your diet, you won’t crave it. You’ll crave healthier, high protein foods. The things I crave now are berries, tahini and bacon and eggs!

A really cheating treat is Mochi or an instant Fuel 10k porridge pot. I’m easily pleased 😂

I had a bowl of warm porridge with a little sugar this morning. Two and a quarter hours later I am starving.

You need a bit of protein in there! I have some toasted nuts and seeds, bit of dried fruit, a sliced banana, sprinkle of cinnamon and a spoonful of greek yogurt with my oats. Keeps me going 4 or more hours and I love it.

Solero

Dried strawberries or mango

Tinned pineapple

Options hot chocolate (sometimes mixed into fat free greek yoghurt)

pandp · 05/05/2024 08:47

Keep a jar of Options hot chocolate and sprinkle a teaspoon (or 2) over zero fat greek yoghourt, gives a real chocolate hit.

Just want to repeat what others have said about the datesthey have been a game changer for me. Medjool dates, split and seed removed, fill with high protein peanut butter (lowers the fat, not sure if you can get mayvers over there, but it's my go toplain PB with peanut flour added to increase protein), rolled in 95% dark chocolate. Sweet, chocolatey, so rich you can only eat one at a time, and I limit myself to 3 a day. Cravings: gone. I think because there is so much protein and fibre, and no additives.

Jaffa cakes, time out bars, kitkats, turkish delight are all not too bad.. my favourite is those flying saucer sweets with sherbert in!

ageingdisgracefully · 05/05/2024 11:40

Molly jelly desserts from Tesco. 100 cal.
Bliss mascarpone dessert. 118 cal.
Turkish Delight seems to deliver a decent chocolatey punch. 170 cals.
Supermarket creme caramel pots (the little ones). 100 cals.
Jelly pots (vary in cals according to sugar content).

And my favourite - Liberte yoghurt. Think it's been discontinued though as I can't find it anywhere any more . 70 cals and very satisfying.

Perzival · 05/05/2024 13:07

Wright watchers chewy caramel wafer- 73 csls. Like Tunnocks.

Pom-bear crisp (not sweet but still junk like) 65 cals

Skinny bars about 75 cals

Cadbury buttons small pack.

Timeturnerplease · 05/05/2024 14:20

Really dark chocolate. A couple of squares of that can send the craving right away.

Kickstarterforpilkopumppants · 05/05/2024 18:22

Thanks all. Jaffa cakes are a fantastic shout. Cakey and chocolatey 🙌🏻

Definitely going to do the dates and peanut butter in dark chocolate. My son loves dates so he'll be on board with this idea too!

If you can stop at one jaffa cake or sponge finger, you're a better person than I am.

I find a square of v high % dark chocolate and a low cal hot chocolate usually kills chocolate craving.

Or try those high protein yoghurts made with quark - they are so bloody filling.

This sounds really good

I enjoy a Green and Blacks dark hot chocolate as a treat before bed sometimes with a flump 😀

IneffableCuriosity · 06/05/2024 07:34

Or a mini 16g treat bag of haribos - 360 calories in 100g, I can’t do the maths 😂

IneffableCuriosity · 06/05/2024 07:35

Oooh it’s apparently only 55 calories 😃

pecanpie101 · 06/05/2024 07:42

The chocolate Rice Krispie bars are great for a big chocolate hit and not too bad on the calories!

SirChenjins · 06/05/2024 08:10

I’ve just seen a recipe on Instagram that I’m going to try later - mix Greek yogurt and chopped bananas and vanilla essence, then freeze into chunky portions on a baking tray. Pour over melted plain choc with high cocoa content and top with seasalt. Eat once chocolate has set.

Meringue

full of sugar unfortunately. the Flower and white snack range is good though. But your top tip is to google recipes by the amazing 'sugar free londoner' who posts on facebook and has lots of keto low sugar recipes

https://sugarfreelondoner.com/

SirChenjins · 06/05/2024 10:17

Should have said that’s fat free Greek yogurt. You could also add protein powder to the banana bites.
