Low calorie satisfying sweet treats

I am an absolute chocolate and sugar fiend. I'm trying to keep it in check but I've accepted that quitting sugar altogether isn't happening for me right now.

At the end of the day I need something sweet! Something that isn't a share bag of peanut m&ms for example.

I like a couple of chocolate covered rice cakes (that's still 164 calories ffs!!!) or a couple of Abernethy biscuits (only slightly better calorie-wise). Also love a large handful of marshmallows.

What are your calorie-conscious treats if you have a raging sweet tooth?

You need a curly wurly op. 97 calories.

If you put them in the fridge they take a while to eat too.

Is this 97 calories in old money? Or is this the new teeny tiny curly wurlies. Absolutely atrocious how small they are now. I will however add them to my shopping list anyway!

Also the mallow & marsh bars if you like marshmallows - i like just the salted caramel one but chocolate covered ones are 140. I buy flumps when i see them as well.

Yes to flumps. I absolutely love them!

Square or two of very dark chocolate and a few raisins.

judgementfail · 04/05/2024 14:51

A wee pot of no sugar jelly and a big tablespoon of whipped cream. Sometimes a scraping of dark choc on top. More low carb really but it's just 60 calories.

SeasickAccountant · 04/05/2024 14:56

Jaffa cakes! Only 46 calories a biscuit, and a proper treat.

But are they smaller or are we taller? I remember them being about as long as my forearm, But I was probably only 4ft tall then.

chomp bars (if they still exist). Take ages to eat!
My top tip when I was younger and always on crazy junk food starvation diets…

honestly tho, these days, I really DO try to eat better now and the cravings aren’t usually there. Apart from sometimes, like today, when I had a big fat pastry for breakfast and then went on to eat so much crap. So I can’t speak.

but yeah, chomp bars!

I think I'll need this thread..

Meringue nest is 54 cals - top with an areo chocolate mousse 89 cals, drizzle of chocolate sauce/warmed up chocolate spread. Feels like a proper pudding!

AppaTheSixLeggedFlyingBison · 04/05/2024 21:04

I like rice crispy squares bar. Just a word of warning on the diet ice cream, if you eat too much it can lead to a very unpleasant time on the loo.... 😳

Idontknowwhattodo78 · 04/05/2024 21:05

Wispa Chocolate Mousse - 84 calories
Meringue nest, with fat free Greek yogurt, raspberries and passion fruit. Around 110 calories but fit as!

coldcallerbaiter · 04/05/2024 21:07

Chocolate hit followed by a fat blocker pills

Smokedsausagesupper · 04/05/2024 21:10

Madjool date slit and fill with peanut butter.
Then drizzle (or dip) into melted dark chocolate.
Let them.cool fully down then freeze.

JovialNickname · 04/05/2024 21:18

I am firmly in the face-punching camp when it comes to people advocating 1 square of dark chocolate; however I got a little (think normal sized portion, mars bar size) bar of 80% dark chocolate from Waitrose the other day and it was LOVELY. So rich I didn't need any more. And even I, a can-scoff-a-family-sized-cake-in-one-go person, found it enough. It's in a white wrapper and it's Waitrose' s own.

I also like light Philadelphia mixed with cocoa powder/light hot choc powder/vanilla essence for that "cheesecake topping" snack.

Banana seed biscuits. Very healthy. Mash one banana add one cup of sesame seeds and 3/ cup of any other mixed seeds. Mix together, spoon onto baking tray and flatten a bit (not too much). Bake for 20 mins at `180 fan. Cool on a wire rack.

ETS I've not done it but imagine if you were to freeze them for an hour or two you could then dip one side into melted chocolate and turn them into florentines

LuckyPeonies · 04/05/2024 21:51

Frozen bananas blended into ‘ice cream’. Just blend in blender or food processor until smooth. You can add cocoa powder and various baking extracts as desired. Delicious, creamy, and no need to add sugar. I also make this with other frozen fruit like mango, raspberries, strawberries. And I used to make a delicious blender pineapple whip with vanilla or coconut extract and a bit of coconut milk, but that aggravates my GORD now. 🙄

quietpink · 04/05/2024 21:54

Ambrosia chocolate custard is what you need, OP

Lokshen · 04/05/2024 21:59

Strained greek yoghurt, pineapple, maple syrup, in a bowl

GettingStuffed · 04/05/2024 22:02

Nairn, mentioned above do reduced sugar biscuits and there's a company called Gullon who make sugar free biscuits, the chocolate ginger ones are some of the nicest biscuits I've tried.

The best thing to do is to gradually reduce the amount of sugar you eat , after a while stuff will be too sweet.

BeeHappy12 · 04/05/2024 22:07

I also love chocolate but i don't have a problem with my weight or over eating as i don't eat any/extremely minimal ultra processed food.

Most of the suggestions are ultra processed and will just keep you in the craving cycle you're currently in.

Great suggestions - 10% fat greek yoghurt with honey and berries (but i understand that probably won't satisfy a chocolate craving).
Chocolate overnight oats
The highest percentage dark chocolate you enjoy - Pana and Ombar are fabulous, non UPF brands.

Loloj · 04/05/2024 22:16

Dark chocolate digestive biscuit - 82 calories. (With a cuppa). Small chocolate carte-dor ice cream (1 serving) - 100 calories (delicious and really helps chocolatey cravings)
