Low calorie satisfying sweet treats

I am an absolute chocolate and sugar fiend. I'm trying to keep it in check but I've accepted that quitting sugar altogether isn't happening for me right now.

At the end of the day I need something sweet! Something that isn't a share bag of peanut m&ms for example.

I like a couple of chocolate covered rice cakes (that's still 164 calories ffs!!!) or a couple of Abernethy biscuits (only slightly better calorie-wise). Also love a large handful of marshmallows.

What are your calorie-conscious treats if you have a raging sweet tooth?

A whole box of ferrero rocher in front of the telly with a big milky coffee to wash it down with 🤣 come on, we were all thinking it 🤣 praying for the day a two finger Kit Kat fills the hole instead 🙏🏼

God, honestly this is me Blush

I have to rein it in or I'm fucked!

Party Rings are about 28 calories.

Hate these nasty rock hard little things. Worst biscuits!

Fruit?

Chubrubdubdub · 03/05/2024 20:32

I like a bowl of warm porridge with a little honey or sugar. It's sweet but also very filling. I rarely want another sweet treat afterward. I have no idea how many calories that would contain - probably a fair amount but it's also real food with nutritious fats, protein and fibre.

Recommend "ultra processed people" which talks a lot about why it is our modern ultra processed diet that is causing diet / weight related problems, not your lack of willpower. Low calorie (low nutrition) artificially flavoured foods might actually be driving your cravings and overconsumption.

Oh and a recent revelation is that my bad habit is not actually just the eating of crap food it's the compulsion to finish the pack. If I have a pack of biscuits I will just keep eating till they're all gone.

So I bought a bag of the mini pack of McVities chocolate digestives. Each pack has about 6 little chocolate digestives in, the whole pack is less than 100 calories. So now if I fancy a biscuit I get to open a pack of those, eat the whole thing and feel satisfied (ish... I mean honestly who wouldn't want a 2nd or 3rd pack but it's definitely easier to stop once I see that the pack I had is empty).

Work2live · 03/05/2024 20:34

I’m the same as you. I really like the little Milkybar desserts (just under 100 cals) or the Cadbury pots of joy (130ish cals).

I also buy the ‘fun size but less fun’ chocolate bars for kids. You just have to make sure you don’t eat 3 or 4 of them 😂

Good shout! I like those little kinder bars. Like you say, hard to avoid eating them all Blush

I'm a fellow chocoholic.

Could easily polish off a whole choc orange or 4 pack of kinder Buenos....mmmm

Anyway, something I actually enjoy and that's fairly healthy is a dark chocolate rice cake covered in peanut butter

Omg levelling up the chocolate rice cake. Love this idea!

Fruit winders. 67 cals. Ate my first one cos I was desperate and had nothing else in the house so I nicked one from the kids snack box. Put them in the fridge to make them easier to eat. Strawberry and apple are my fave.

Aldi do a chocolate and caramel ‘light’ desert pot that is about 65 cals. I like them.

Katrinawaves · 03/05/2024 21:10

Finger of fudge is also under 100 cals I believe. Or buy a bag of mini choc bars and stick them in the freezer so you can’t eat them all at once. Just defrost one at a time.

mondaytosunday · 03/05/2024 21:12

Caramel rice cakes (51 cal each).

Comefromaway · 03/05/2024 21:14

I prefer to have a small amount of a really good, luxurious chocolate. Those fibre one bars or other similar stuff feels like I’m eating cardboard.

So I will get a bar of Venchi pistachio crema for my birthday and have one strip of it per week. It’s too expensive to eat it faster.

Or a similar amount of Laderach.

I also buy multipacks of mini treat size twix/maltesers etc and have one every few days.

acquiescence · 03/05/2024 21:17

I’ve previously made a chocolate dessert with quark and a sugar free syrup or melted dark chocolate. Also the aldi light caramel desert pot or the mullet light desert yoghurts.

It’s not what you want to hear but if you just cut sugar and try to stick to unprocessed foods your cravings really will go, it really is so liberating. I used to not be able to finish a meal without reaching for a little bit of chocolate, even when calorie counting.Another recommendation for reading (or preferably listening to) ultra processed people- it’s free on Spotify premium.

takemeawayagain · 03/05/2024 21:31

Dates filled with peanut butter, (I actually read about them on here) they're filling and sweet enough that you don't need to eat 10. May not be low cal but much healthier than most options.

Barney16 · 03/05/2024 22:10

Waitrose chocolate covered malted milk biscuits. I think they are about 56 calories each. M and S Jaffa cakes. M and S lemon cakes. They have a hole in the middle so to be fair not huge cakes but very nice.

Saracen · 03/05/2024 22:20

I use a sharp knife to chop a square of my favourite chocolate into tiny pieces the size of small chocolate chips. Then I put one of them on my tongue and suck on it until it's gone, and wait a bit before having the next one. It lasts ages, and by the time it's all gone, I feel as if I'd scoffed quite a lot of chocolate.

This probably wouldn't work if the chocolate came ready-chopped in small pieces, because I'd just keep going back for more. The effort of having to chop it up makes me stop and think.

I just adore chocolate and I'm not prepared to live without it. But I've realised I don't need a lot of it. I did once give up chocolate for nine months. I coped, but I never stopped missing it. I thought, "I'm capable of giving up chocolate for the rest of my life, but my life would be a bit empty. I don't want to live like that." I know that sounds dramatic but, well, I do REALLY enjoy chocolate!

PiePlease · 03/05/2024 23:09

There are 228 calories in a Mars bar but only 132 in a Mars bar ice cream, so that’s a nice swap and still a good size. I’ve also recently discovered Little Moons Mochi ice cream, they come in loads of flavours and are around 80 or so cals each. They take a while to eat too and quite satisfying - if you like mochi ice cream anyway… DH says the texture of the dough makes his skin crawl! Works for me though as I know he won’t eat them 😂

Feellikeafailurenow · 03/05/2024 23:14

Skinny bakery cakes. They are tiny but as a tub is less than 200 cals even if you eat them all it’s not “that” bad.

also like chocolate mouse pots (about 100 calories) a milky way, kit kat, fudge or pack of chocolate buttons. Or a mini pack of cookies or the halo ice creams further up.

A new one is crumpet thins and one of those toasted with jam is just over 100 cals. I do sometimes have one with chocolate spread so a bit more calories but stops me eating all of the chocolate spread.

if i want “more” of a treat so roughly double the calories a chocolate orange bar, a dairy milk caramel, ice cream mars bar or mini hagendaz tub of ice cream something like that. Really like toffee crumble ice lollies too

i also like low cal jelly, meringues & popcorn for snacks which i saw you didn’t. Square crisps or pretzels bags as well but i like to have “snacks” throughout the day & i generally have a “treat” most nights and usually something chocolate.

i generally eat healthily for meals and having “treats” helped me lose weight & stick to it

Feellikeafailurenow · 03/05/2024 23:17

Also the mallow & marsh bars if you like marshmallows - i like just the salted caramel one but chocolate covered ones are 140. I buy flumps when i see them as well.

jigglywigglyhungryhippo · 03/05/2024 23:22

Chocolate overnight oats.

Dark cocoa powder, honey, vanilla extract, Greek yogurt- mix all together and pour onto some oats. Leave for a few hours/overnight.

Satisfies the need for chocolate/desert

gynaeissue · 03/05/2024 23:26

I prefer the dark chocolate covered corn thins from Sainsbury’s to chocolate covered rice cakes - more satisfying and crunchier / feels less like eating air. 2 in a pack (come in a multi pack)151cal
