My mum found an old picture of me, around 6 - in the picture I had a piece of wool fastened as a necklace! I apparently insisted on doing it all the time, I used to walk around with various colours of wool around my neck 😂😂 I’ve no clue why!! I also used to write in colouring books, I’d never colour them in but used to write on the pages, no idea to that one either

My friends and I were quite weird and used to try to solve 'mysteries' in our neighbourhood, without know what the mystery was, we'd just look for 'clues' such as there being lots of cigarette stubs and decide the 'criminal' must be a smoker! 😅

Ginkypig · 02/05/2024 11:46

I did all sorts of weird stuff and I do now too 😄

the new Barbie film brought up memories of my liking of eating her feet, occasionally hands but I preferred the feet.

this was when they had the rubbery texture not plastic. I would start at the toes and nibble tiny bits off until she didn’t have anything below the ankle!

my excuse was I didn’t like dolls and would much have a truck or tractor and they tasted good!

I hate feet now! The idea of touching someone’s feet now makes my skin crawl.

We heard about Trick or Treat from an American book where in the story it was referred to in passing as the family in the story making Trick or Treat witch decorations for Halloween and got it totally wrong! (before it became a thing here, circa 1970)

We made about a dozen witches on broomsticks from black card, ping pong ball head face felt tipped on, wool for hair, twigs to make a broomstick and on a rope to hang as a decoration. Rang doorbells randomly and anyone that answered (we were also dressed up as witches) said 'Trick or Treat?' and if they said Treat they got a (badly made) witch thrust at them while we ran off cackling and shrieking. We just ran off cackling if they said 'Trick'

I used to eat paper. Every page in my books were chewed around the edge but never the print as that tasted horrible.

OMG! Me too! My DM still takes the piss out of me now! I used to bite off their boobs as well....funny really, considering I'm a massive Lesbian now 😂

Kittylickingplate · 02/05/2024 12:23

I used to eat matches, just the red ends. I would have awful belly aches and worried my Mam to despair.
Never told her...

ye maybe it was a sign of things to come lol

I tried to eat the boobs once but I couldn’t get the same small nibbles as the toes lol I quickly abandoned the idea, it’s the same reason I didn’t get much past the ankles. Once the nibbly were gone it lost its appeal. Poor Barbie!

Circa 1971 my mother had a shock when she found several flattened hedgehogs in the boot of my tricycle!

My older sister and I had picked them up off the road and put them in the boot of my tricycle! She could ride a bicycle but but my tricycle had a large boot at the rear!

No idea what we were going to do with them.

AmyandPhilipfan · 02/05/2024 12:42

I have a vivid memory of sitting on the floor in the living room, colouring in a digestive biscuit with a felt tip pen, and then once it was all coloured I ate it!

TheFormidableMrsC · 02/05/2024 12:43

I loved dolls but sometimes hated their bodies. So I'd take their heads off and put them on a different dolls body. I'm not sure why nobody thought this was really weird!

Deludamol · 02/05/2024 12:43

A friend and I used to pretend this V shaped tree was a time portal to the past. We'd hop through it and then go up to other children in the playground and pretend they were dressed in Victorian clothes. We'd exclaim to each other, look at this specimen! So old fashioned! Wow!!

LakeTiticaca · 02/05/2024 12:44

I was desperate for long hair but my mum wouldn't let me grow it. I used to put a pair of tights on my head and pretend the legs were long hair 😅

emeraldsapphire · 02/05/2024 12:47

I used to sit on the toilet at my grandparents house and shred the wallpaper, just sit and pull strips off it. No idea why I did it, eventually they had to replace the whole wall as all along the bottom was ruined. I was strictly forbidden to do it once they'd decorated 😅

Washingtonmachine · 02/05/2024 12:47

I used to make secret sugar sandwiches and eat them on the sly.

AliceMcK · 02/05/2024 12:51

I use to have a wall of snot. I had pebbledash wallpaper on my walls. I use to pick the pebble dash off and replace with big lumps of snot. I’m not sure if it ever registered to my parents, they were massive clean and hygienic freaks who weren’t afraid to give us a kick up the arse. I can only guess they didn’t notice as I was never told off for it.

Haha! My nextdoor neighbour and I used to do this. We’d sit up a tree at the end of our street and take notes on all the comings and goings and what terrible things our neighbours might be up to. I found one of our notebooks at my parents’ house recently and it was hilarious.

BrieHugger · 02/05/2024 13:01

Went through the funeral notices in the local paper and made family trees of the deceased.

I know, I know…

This made me laugh way more than I should have 😄

We had this beautiful big rhododendron bush in our garden and, when it flowered each year, I used to make my sister take part in this parade with me in its honour 🌺🤪 A bit like a floral version of Trooping of the Colour (with two under-10 girls instead of royalty and the military). Why?!

earther · 02/05/2024 15:50

I used to cut my barbies hair and swore blind it had grown the next day.
And i used to swap heads on my jelly babies and have funerals for them in the garden i hated them but my mum thought they were my fav sweet.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 02/05/2024 15:56

Well this is gross. But I remembered it last week. Scab picking. I was prone to mossie bites and would pick them until a satisfactory and gooey scab developed. And the usual scrapes. And if they could peel off in the bath.... So many got infected. And biting the inside of my mouth. The ulcers I had. I was a vile little urchin

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 02/05/2024 16:00

I was a quite revolting toddler. I liked to pour orange juice onto the carpet and then suck it up, because I so enjoyed the taste of the whole orange juice/carpet combo

I ate soil.

I regularly stuck raw redcurrants in my ear and nose and then my Mum would have to prise them out with a skewer.

Olinguito · 02/05/2024 16:02

I used to fill my pockets with woodlice and call them my little friends.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 02/05/2024 16:05

I liked to eat rubbers/erasers. I developed an allergy to rubber soled shoes and was convinced I'd brought it on myself.

We lived on a farm, and I used to love walking around the fields throwing stones in cow pats! Unbelievably grim but oh so satisfying.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/05/2024 16:06

I used to pretend I was a teacher and ‘mark’ all my story books. I got them down for my kids and there was lots of ‘terrible writing, try harder’ and ‘see me at playtime’ all over them, so I was clearly a really strict teacher.

MysweetAudrina · 02/05/2024 16:07

I insisted on speaking nothing but Spanish for a full week while we were on a holiday ( not in Spain and i didn't have a word of Spanish) my parents were fit to kill me as I answered every question in Spanish or what I thought was a good impression of what Spanish might sound like.
