Odd/ strange things you did as a child?

My mum found an old picture of me, around 6 - in the picture I had a piece of wool fastened as a necklace! I apparently insisted on doing it all the time, I used to walk around with various colours of wool around my neck 😂😂 I’ve no clue why!! I also used to write in colouring books, I’d never colour them in but used to write on the pages, no idea to that one either

Read the phone book.
Regrouted the bathroom tiles with a paste made of talc and water, left mysterious piles on the bathroom carpet when it dried.
Sleep under my bed or in the wardrobe
Gave lessons in horse knowledge to my siblings and made them answer worksheets and do tests of my devising
Pretended to be blind and walked around tapping with a bamboo cane painted white ( think my dad had used it to stir paint!)
Ate a lot of paper.
I could go on ...

I used to pretend I’m in the Winter Olympics games for ice skating and “skate”around the carpet with my slippers on.

ps - I still don’t know how to ice skate properly to this date so not sure why I would imagine I was Olympic material

I used to pretend I was blind when out in shops with my Mum. It really embarrassed her 😂

I used to tie strips of Laura Ashley fabric in my hair and pretend I had long hair.

I also had 150 imaginary friends. I kept their names written in a notebook and would pretend to "be" each one every day

I did this once with a friend, we were convinced it would grow. Same friend and I microwaved a barbie, I have no idea why but I know both things had something to do with her big brother. Cant remember how that happened. They also had a big scary dog. That's all I remember about this friend. I was in preschool and we moved soon after.

Very close to where we lived was an area that had been cleared and they had built the roads but not the houses.

My friends and I rode our bikes there. One day we somehow got convinced that we had found a landing site from a spaceship. We got carried away with searching for any evidence of aliens. We agreed to go back to our homes to get food and meet back at the landing site. We laid out the food and all agreed to come back in the morning to check if the aliens had eaten it. The next morning the food was gone (probably eaten by animals) and we were so excited that we had proof that aliens had been there. 👽

I slept in a tent in my bedroom for three years.

Ripping off corners of my Dad's newspapers and chewing the bits. Newspapers in the 70s had a lovely texture and taste. My mother told me if I continued I'd be pooping out toilet rolls.

We had an ancient radio with a cracked front and we were warned not to touch the cracked section because of the electricity! So I used to put my finger into it, getting closer and closer.....then once or twice I'd actually touch it and get a weird shock!

When a guest would leave the house I would run to the living room and sniff their seat.

Abit weird when I think about it. I would ask my sister to join me and she never did.

We had a corner house with a huge garden that wrapped all the way around 3 sides and in the bushes against the wall were thousands of huge fat black and orange striped hairy caterpillars. We used to hold them and stroke them and I decided I was going to put them in jars until they turned into butterflies. I checked them every day and probably looking back they suffocated as they were sealed in with no air...but one day I was devastated to find someone had swapped every single caterpillar for an orange tictac. Actual orange tictacs. Never got to the bottom of that one....

Yep you're all definitely weirdos 😂 (like me).
I used to cut all the hair off my barbies so they had little stumps on their scalps. Nothing sinister I just want them to look different and liked cutting things. I buried dead birds I found and gave them funerals. I would draw around eyes in story books. Steal slices of bread to eat in secret. It's not like I was starved or mistreated. Yet I would do this with crackers and hide to eat it. From who I don't know.

I used to do the same! I thought I was the only one... every book I owned had corners missing. Never library books tho 🤔

Thought you were gonna say “you weirdo”, which would have been fair enough. I did end up doing a job for which my strange habit was useful, though!

When I was about 10,I lived near a cemetery. We used to find old graves and tombs that had cracks in and leave sweets in them and come back the next day to see if the body had "grabbed" the sweet to eat 🤦9 times out of 10 the sweet had gone probably from foxes or birds but we were convinced it was the body.

We did this!! We had a name and a HQ and everything 🤣

I blame Scooby Doo!

I used to put a jumper on my head for long hair.

I cantered everywhere until I was at least 12!

We made bridles out of cotton for my friend's dogs. Sorry dogs.

I used to love making dens.

Cut out people from the Kays catalogue and make families and furniture etc.

So did I, and I was still doing it at high school, but I never chewed books. Even now I will occasionally put a small piece of paper in my mouth and chew away.

OMG - I used to do that too, but was too embarassed to mention it on my post as I thought it was too odd.

I also used to bite the top of the glass when I was having a drink - until one broke!!

I used to put my blanket around me like a shawl and put yellow washing up gloves on my feet pretending to be Jemima Puddleduck...

Oooooh the mossie bites! I used to scrape mine with a nail file. Amazing feeling.

I used to eat firelighters.

I still love the smell of them

I used to scrape up chewing gum that was trodden into the pavement and chew on it. I used to have to pick the little stones out of it first.😬
