as is usual, i kept both of my childrens 1st baby teeth... BUT, it didn't stop there, for some reason, known to god knows who, i kept ALL of the baby teeth BOTH of my children lost!

now, my oldest is 26.. i have these teeth... its turned into a bit of a joke and it really is time to let these go...

but how?

i can't throw them away.. it would be like discarding a part of my children? the only solution i have come up with, is when i pass, these teeth are cremated with me.. which means these teeth will hang around my house hopefully for another 30 years.

any ideas?

i can't explain it! it just feels wrong to just chuck them in the bin.. i know i should have disposed of them years ago, but here we are!

would it help if you thought about it as adding additional stress to your children whilst they are grieving?

Deadringer · 01/05/2024 15:27

I kept all of their teeth too, and I have 5 dc!

Can I gently ask why you view them so strongly as "part of your children"?

They are a waste product, no longer required, replaced with something else.

I find it unfathomable if I'm being completely honest. Just binned all of mine (but carefully so they didn't find them and rumble the tooth fairy)

Presumably because they were once in their heads!

It is not an unusual way to view teeth.

MonsteraMama · 01/05/2024 15:34

My mam still has all mine and my siblings teeth. There are seven of us so it's quite the macabre collection. All just chucked together in one box too so no idea whose are whose. We've tried to convince her to bin them many a time but she won't!

Beezknees · 01/05/2024 15:35

Just throw them away! I've never kept DS's teeth, what the bloody hell would I want them for!

Boneyhands · 01/05/2024 15:44

Look up baby tooth jewellery on Etsy, you could makes quite a few years worth of presents for your children.😂

I looked that up actually 🤣 well not just baby tooth jewellery
I tried to post an image but the file was too large
Really gross, I think.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 01/05/2024 15:57

Make them into pie crimpers.

passtheajax · 01/05/2024 16:06

Lay them out so they're in order and hot glue them together. Make a top and bottom set then put one on top of the other and set in clear acrylic - there's tutorials on YouTube and it's easy enough. You then have an amusing ornament which you can present them with on their next birthday 😃🦷

I work in a jewellers and we have made baby teeth into earrings and necklaces. I hate it, but one of the jewellers loves them. We call it 'baby ivory' Grin

Sparklfairy · 01/05/2024 16:38

As a teen I had four back teeth removed before I had braces fitted. The dentist gave them to me as a souvenir/momento. From that day on, if my DM or siblings ever pissed me off I used to put one or two in their beds, nestled under the duvet Grin

Thinking about it, I'm not sure what happened to those teeth. I assume DM stealthily threw them away as she was fed up of this 'prank'. Clearly she had no such maternal attachment like you OP Wink

DappledThings · 01/05/2024 16:43

My mum gave me all of mine a few years ago. I had no idea she had them, found it totally gross and chucked them away.

It would never have occurred to me to keep any of them but DH is more sentimental than me and has kept them along with locks of first haircuts and their hospital bracelets which I wouldn't have thought to keep either.

Just gross. Why would anyone want to wear that?

LauderSyme · 01/05/2024 16:48

I've got ds's hospital bracelet and the outfit he came home in. It is so small 😊

passtheajax · 01/05/2024 16:53

I have ds' cord clamp. He was appalled when I showed it to him when he was a teen. He yelled "get that thing away from me" 😂

inappropriateraspberry · 01/05/2024 16:55

My mum gave me my teeth! They are in a little box in my jewellery box.

SirenSays · 01/05/2024 17:02

I helped a friend clean out her grandma's house after she passed away. She had 8 DC and many many dogs over the years. At the back of her bedside drawer there was a cookie tin. It was full of baby teeth, dried umbilical cords, locks of hair - from dc and the dogs, even a few dogs teeth and claws.
We got slightly drunk and buried it at the bottom of her garden.

sleekcat · 01/05/2024 17:02

I also have a collection of baby teeth. But I didn't organise them properly and now I don't know which teeth belong to who. I also have a mould from the orthodontist, I don't know why I still have that!

spiderlight · 01/05/2024 17:11

I have all my DS's teeth (apart from the one he lost at school and the one DH helpfully washed down the drain - on that occasion, a quick raid of the teeth box enabled me to 'find' it in the drain outside and averted an epic tooth-fairy drama!) and I have no idea why, or what will eventually become of them. I also still have all my baby teeth, having found them when clearing my mum's house. I can't remember where I've put the latter, so that will be fun for DS to find one day!

Els1e · 01/05/2024 17:53

Bury them in the ground

Rookangaroo4 · 01/05/2024 18:04

My eldest is 25. I have all of their teeth and cord clips . I’ve put them in their memory boxes 😂

TwelveAngryWhiskers · 01/05/2024 18:07

Teeth don't bother me but... dried umbilical cords? WTF.

Edit: I have just googled and really wish I hadn't.

Georgyporky · 01/05/2024 18:08

I do hope any male children were not circumcised.........

Dahlietta · 01/05/2024 18:17

Lord, you don’t want to be created with them! You’ll be locked together, just hanging out for eternity with your kids’ creepy teeth 😬

Dahlietta · 01/05/2024 18:17

*cremated 😂
