as is usual, i kept both of my childrens 1st baby teeth... BUT, it didn't stop there, for some reason, known to god knows who, i kept ALL of the baby teeth BOTH of my children lost!

now, my oldest is 26.. i have these teeth... its turned into a bit of a joke and it really is time to let these go...

but how?

i can't throw them away.. it would be like discarding a part of my children? the only solution i have come up with, is when i pass, these teeth are cremated with me.. which means these teeth will hang around my house hopefully for another 30 years.

any ideas?

Have you got any special memories of a beach you went to when they were kids? Take them there and bury them at sea. Bring the kids with you and make a party of it. Like a wake for the teeth.

or a particular sweet shop they loved 😆

Am I dreaming this, or did someone once start a thread on here, saying they'd moved house and found a tin full of teeth in the cupboard under the kitchen sink?

JamMakingWannaBe · 01/05/2024 19:08

I had two adult teeth extracted last week. The Dentist asked if I wanted to take them home. Why did I say "yes"?
I have a pot of my own baby teeth and a pot of DS's baby teeth.
Not sure why ...

AhBiscuits · 01/05/2024 19:12

Make one of these and gift it to them.

PuppetQueen · 01/05/2024 19:37

Do you need any new cupboard/door handles, light pulls or table cloth weights? If so, how about having your DC's teeth set in resin and updating your decor? It will be a great talking point next time the gas man comes round to read your meter!

I have 2 girls and have all their baby teeth too - not only do I have them, but they are individually wrapped in tissue with their name and the date they lost the tooth.
I don’t know what I’m going to do with them! I asked the girls and they were horrified. They are 29 and 27 now.
I also have their hospital bracelets, lock of hair, first babygro (so small) and first shoes.

KitKatChunki · 01/05/2024 20:06

I'm the same! I was thinking of sticking them into some cement something or other...maybe in the garden...
My mum did the same for me but I've no idea where mine are, and she died when I was in my 20s, so technically they are in my house somewhere 😬

FrogTheWarrior · 01/05/2024 20:31

Don’t feel bad. I have my dog’s baby teeth!!!

afuckinggoat · 01/05/2024 20:31

When I was teaching Year 2, a parent of one of my pupils offered me a load of her kids' baby teeth for Science.

The class performed an experiment to compare the effect of different drinks on real teeth. We were all surprised to find that Diet Coke caused the most damage (more so than orange juice or normal Coke).

Maybe offer them to school if the teacher is mad like me and gleefully accept offers of old parts of human beings.

Is that because of the artificial sweetners? I can't stand the taste but more people seem to be addicted to diet coke than normal for some reason.

paristotokyo · 01/05/2024 20:37

Oh yikes lol have a little ceremony and then bury them? Giving them a send off will help you move on.. perhaps.. or teeth necklace like pp suggested Grin

bryceQ · 01/05/2024 20:38

Bin them! That's really yukky and weird sorry!!

ItsVeryHyacinthBucket · 01/05/2024 20:38

Necklace
Model castle
Decorate a teddy
Craft some lovely Xmas baubles
Dangle like corks off a hat
Windchime
Grind down to make exfoliator

Keep in a sweet little pot and be done

NeverHeardOfSuchTosh · 01/05/2024 20:40

😂😂😂I've heard of being sentimental about things, but teeth??

JimPansy · 01/05/2024 20:41

Have them made into piano keys for a doll's house piano. Not RTFT.

CatamaranViper · 01/05/2024 20:46

I've got DSs in a decorative bottle on the windowsill. My mam still has mine and my brother's on hers! But she also kept all the dogs first few teeth too (all three dogs!)

nopenotplaying · 01/05/2024 20:55

Omg I have 5 children and currently own 2 1/2 sets so far baby teeth. My twins are only 4 so haven't started losing them yet.

I also have a confession. I have my 16 year old daughter's belly button peg...and it has a bit of dried umbilical cord in it. Mummified 😂

Xmasbaby11 · 01/05/2024 20:59

OMG I love this thread! DH for some reason thought I'd kept all the children's teeth and was horrified I'd binned them all apart from the first one, and to be honest, I'm not sure whose is whose. They are in tiny boxes.

I would just chuck them apart from the first one.

JaneIves · 01/05/2024 21:00

I'm with you OP, can't part with my daughter's teeth. Or hair. Or baby hospital wristbands. And I have the cord clip resplendent with a stumpy, twisty bit of umbilical cord. It's gone like a resin!

She doesn't know about the teeth, she's still loosing, and still 'believes' at 10 years old.
She's fascinated by the umbilical cord though! It almost matched the colour of the amber necklace she wore (and I kept!)

Haha this is what I was going to suggest. Am sure my mum did this with teeth with her class once. Seems likely it may have been some of ours, though I didn’t think about that at the time :-D

Feeling quite pleased that I binned ours in a fit of “if I don’t chuck them now I’ll never be able to get rid of them”. Seems like proof I was right!

Houselamp · 01/05/2024 21:08

My mum presented me with mine when I was about 20.
I pretended it was really sweet and tbf I think the gesture of her keeping them was, but then I threw them away when she went home. It was just a bit gross, there is nothing cute about a little pile of teeth and I don't know what she thought I would do with them, maybe spells?

It felt a bit like treasuring old retainers or a clump of hair from the first time I shaved my legs, all lovely minging reminders of growing up.
Could you just give them to your kids and say you cant bear to chuck them but you don't mind what they do with them?

OneFrenchEgg · 01/05/2024 21:13

I did this and then one day my teenager had an absolute horrified response to them in my jewellery box that I saw sense and binned them.
I think you've kept them for so long that they've accumulated more significance that they merit and you find it hard to throw them away.

MadameameBeans · 01/05/2024 21:14

Put them in a bowl with some milk and eat them like cereal. Then they will always be a part of you.
