Trying to make cake toppers for my dd Snow White birthday cake. If it was just at my home I wouldn’t care how bad they are but we’re going to a restaurant with a load of friends and I am a bit self conscious about this cake and everyone else seeing it and secretly laughing at it.

i feel like these are horrendous and thinking of just giving up and going Tesco ha! Pls tell me the truth should I give up while I’m ahead?!

Love these! So much character... keep going, OP.

Hurryuphumphreygeorgeiswaiting · 30/04/2024 19:50

Love them OP. Looking forward to seeing the finished cake/ toppers.

FairlyOddmother · 30/04/2024 19:57

They are great and you should be proud 😊
Anyone who sneers is unkind and probably jealous. The very best children's birthday cakes are home made, and often slightly wonky. I think it'll be a treasured memory 👏

I would never be able to create anything like this. I think they are amazing and you should be proud of yourself!

Naughty1205 · 30/04/2024 20:17

These are so good, I wouldn't have a clue where to start with something like that! And mum made, even better!

pineapplesundae · 30/04/2024 21:23

I love them! And what a nice memory for both you and your daughter! Please don’t give up!

Allthingsbrightandbeautifulx · 30/04/2024 21:27

@Cherrymuffiny Dopey is fab!! I’m sure they’ll get better as you learn with each one. I’ve just had a quick look at ones on Amazon and these plastic ones are awful, yours are much better.
Etsy do make amazing fondant ones though. You could have a peek for inspiration.

They are good enough for sure.
The one on the left is wrinkly but it doesn't matter!

They are good enough to put on a cake 100%

TheDogdidGood · 30/04/2024 21:44

I think they look brillliant :)

ThistleTits · 30/04/2024 21:48

@Cherrymuffiny if I was to unveil that in front of my family they would openly laugh and rip me for years. On the other hand you have done better than most and your child will just adore it. X

Debtdolly · 30/04/2024 21:49

How old is DD? I made my daughter a cake when she was 5 and it was atrocious looking, but she thought it was the best thing ever! She’ll love it and they are certainly better than most people could make.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 30/04/2024 21:54

Even better if the children can touch the cake, pinch and eat them. 😆

One birthday party we attended and the cake was in the corner, under heavily armed guard (dad). Nobody was allowed near it as it was being saved for a family celebration as home presumably.

For “happy birthday’ they put out a plain sponge cake, sliced it and cut that up to hand out. The disappointment was palpable!

BetterLuckTomorrow · 30/04/2024 21:57

I think they’re phenomenal! Well done!

🥂 to the OP and all other mums who pour so much love (and blood, sweat and tears!) into making birthday cakes for their kids. That point where you’re elbow deep in brightly coloured buttercream, about 87 cake decorating YouTube tutorials down and you’ve got about 45 minutes until the party guests arrive 🫠

Tomasinabombadil · 30/04/2024 22:04

I’m just commenting so that I get to see the finished product. Btw… I think they’re great.🙂

rollonretirementfgs · 30/04/2024 22:06

Didn't even read your post but know exactly who they are. A job well done I'd say.

crumblingschools · 30/04/2024 22:21

@ThistleTits that doesn’t say much about your family

We enjoy a laugh 😃.

OldPerson · 30/04/2024 22:33

Is this just false gush to gain compliments?

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 30/04/2024 22:39

They are certainly a lot better than I could do .

WestSussexWitch · 30/04/2024 22:47

I think they’re great, another one watching for the final result!

LadySinfiaSnoop · 30/04/2024 23:10

I think they look great and funny too! I love making home made cakes and made my granddaughers first birthday cake, strangely enough i havent been asked since, although i turned out ok in the end I think.

WonderingWanda · 30/04/2024 23:13

The look great, your dd will love them!

Grimchmas · 30/04/2024 23:15

I'm here to register my interest in seeing the rest of the characters! I hope you continue, I think hm you've got real skill there and that people will look back at their quirks with fondness!

BeretRaspberry · 30/04/2024 23:22

They’re fab! I used to make cakes professionally and I know just how much love and effort will have gone into those. Can’t wait to see the finished result.

Vampirelovebite · 30/04/2024 23:55

They are far, far better than anything I could ever do.
