Trying to make cake toppers for my dd Snow White birthday cake. If it was just at my home I wouldn’t care how bad they are but we’re going to a restaurant with a load of friends and I am a bit self conscious about this cake and everyone else seeing it and secretly laughing at it.

i feel like these are horrendous and thinking of just giving up and going Tesco ha! Pls tell me the truth should I give up while I’m ahead?!

They're just right. The shop-bought ones lack character and they're always too twee and 'perfect'. I'd be very happy with your dwarfs.

Princesspollyyy · 30/04/2024 11:24

Sorry I don't think they look good.

@Princesspollyyy

really?

well I think you're wrong. I think they're great. I'd love to see you do any better!

maybe you're very young & have only known a commercialised life, such a shame.

CityCommuter · 01/05/2024 00:08

@Cherrymuffiny I think they look great actually but has Dopey's right hand fallen off?

Is this just false gush to gain compliments?

@OldPerson

obviously not. The OP's posts sadly lack any confidence.

@Cherrymuffiny

'Cherry'. They are great!! I'd love to SW & all the cast when you've done them

Aside from the fact they are great, your DD will love that you've made them!! That's what memories are made of, not bought things!!

im so glad i was born in '69 enjoyed the 70's &. 80's with FAR less commercialism & much more family involvement in life- birthdays , church hall weddings etc.

DD will love it, F&F should appreciate your effort & skill, if they laugh, tell them to fuck off!

coxesorangepippin · 01/05/2024 02:14

I think they're great personally ❤️🙂

Geppili · 01/05/2024 02:34

I absolutely LOVE them!

Thevelvelletes · 01/05/2024 03:41

You've done an excellent job,if you want to see bad cakes , Google cake fails...what should have been delivered and what was received are hilarious and a lot of them were shop bought.

oakleaffy · 01/05/2024 04:56

They do look a little scary, @Cherrymuffiny but fair play for trying!
Cartoons are not the easiest things to copy as they have such exaggerated faces anyway.

I made a Thomas the tank engine out of Swiss rolls, and my son and his friends had no complaints.

Mum once made me a ''carousel'' cake with plastic model horses that I LOVED!
I hope your little girl loves the effort you have made.

DO NOT go to TESCO!

Use your cake!

I think they look great and funny too! I love making home made cakes and made my granddaughers first birthday cake, strangely enough i havent been asked since, although i turned out ok in the end I think.

😂🤣🤣

crumblingschools · 01/05/2024 07:56

@ThistleTits so if the birthday child really liked it would the adults in the room still laugh and tell the child mummy is crap at cake decorating

ThistleTits · 01/05/2024 08:04

Of course not. Read my comment.

crochetcatsknitting · 01/05/2024 08:30

I'd be super proud if I made those. Life is not instagram. The love and effort is worth so much more. xx

I think they’re phenomenal! Well done!

🥂 to the OP and all other mums who pour so much love (and blood, sweat and tears!) into making birthday cakes for their kids. That point where you’re elbow deep in brightly coloured buttercream, about 87 cake decorating YouTube tutorials down and you’ve got about 45 minutes until the party guests arrive 🫠

Oh god.

Every.Single.Year

Plus hair stiff with icing sugar, stomach queasy from 'sampling' too much party food/ sweets, every surface of kitchen under pans, and the floor gritty with icing bits that have fallen and glued to the floor. My feet literally throb at the end of the day.

dudsville · 01/05/2024 09:00

I'm really surprised that anyone would be critical of your dwarves, but i don't mean that in a mean way, just genuinely. It's homemade and you don't do this 24/7, and they're miles and miles above what I could produce and I honestly think they're great. When I saw your pic I was impressed and expected a thread of lovely support. I think your thread has attracted some high achievers! If your guests critique the cake then they have a weird focus for the event.

ABwithAnItch · 01/05/2024 09:01

I think they’re really cute.

Poodles23 · 01/05/2024 10:40

I think they’re good, better than what I could do!

HopeMumsnet · 01/05/2024 13:19

Not to pull rank here but some of us are refreshing this thread A Lot for the update pics... also OP your cake toppers are charming and full of personality.

We got one a chocolate buttons hedgehog year in, year out, cos it was the only one our mum could do had convinced us we were really into hedgehogs.

Bretonbabe · 01/05/2024 14:13

Buttercream transfers are a lot easier, print a picture the right size for your cake top or side, tape pic to a metal baking tray, put grease proof/parchment paper on top and trace over with icing, do an outline in black first, using a piping bag & round tip, then fill in, gently smooth individual sections with a small pallet knife, avoiding the outline. Put in the freezer for 20mins or so, and then lift off & smooth onto cake. It’s easier than it sounds trust me.

These are cool!

Cherrymuffiny · 01/05/2024 20:09

Update.
I will definitely be updating once I’ve actually got anything new to show. sadly Dopeys head may have rolled off last night.
Don’t do crack guys. And also don’t do cakes

but I promise, I am making another one. Can’t promise he’ll be as good as that one though 😂

His arm also fell off when trying to put his head back on, the old adage of if you don’t laugh you’ll cry kept me going.

About to commence Dopey the second, wish me luck…

Wow, beautiful! It turned out more than ok!! Lucky grandkids to have such a talented cake making granny.

And I love that you have the circumcised penis ‘before’ pic to go alongside the finished result 😁
