Trying to make cake toppers for my dd Snow White birthday cake. If it was just at my home I wouldn’t care how bad they are but we’re going to a restaurant with a load of friends and I am a bit self conscious about this cake and everyone else seeing it and secretly laughing at it.

i feel like these are horrendous and thinking of just giving up and going Tesco ha! Pls tell me the truth should I give up while I’m ahead?!

I think it's great. It's a cake made with love. I decorated a Christmas cake once with spiky icing. Unfortunately most of the icing slowly fell off with Father Christmas and Rudolf caught up in the avalanche. It's still talked/laughed about (with fondness) every year.

abracadabra1980 · 30/04/2024 17:43

I love them! Far nicer that a home made attempt is a bit of a giggle (even though I genuinely think they're really good) than yet another shop bought cake - well done!

I made some cupcakes for DS's birthday to take into school. I proudly posted them on Facebook after he had taken them in, and a parent commented that they looked phallic (definitely not the look I was going for!). A number of other friends agreed with her. I was mortified. Luckily the teacher didn't say anything and I can laugh about it now!

Please use these. I promise you it will be a much better memory that you share with your child than a bought cake.

My husband laughed his head off at my Thomas the tank engine cake (took days) and the time where I turned everyone's wee and poo bright red because of the amount of red food colouring I used in the cake is now a fond family memory (I may have panicked a bit at the time) I would not have these wonderful memories if I hadn't tried.

I will definitely be posting the Grand finale if I get there! I won’t be buying toppers, will be straightforward purchased cake or homemade. It’s all or nothing now 😂 currently day dreaming about how Snow White is going to turn out. /having nightmares.

Need work to hurry up so I can get on with my new hobby of creating sinister/scary/crackhead dwarves.

Yes, yes, yes!! You've done brilliantly already!!

They look very good!

I'd be so proud if my Mum had made them!

Home-made trumps all!

OhcantthInkofaname · 30/04/2024 18:01

They are good. I could never have done these.

Revelatio · 30/04/2024 18:04

I love homemade cakes, and especially the disasters! It’s something the family will talk about (but not in a horrible way, more of a loving way) for years to come. They’ll be asking you to make one every birthday!! You might even get to be a ticktok sensation!!

TubeScreamer · 30/04/2024 18:11

They’re great!

Ciderisrosier · 30/04/2024 18:15

As someone who makes their kids whatever themed birthday cakes they want we have some great memories of the shockers. And there have been a few 😂

Heatedblanky · 30/04/2024 18:15

These are great! They have a charm you could never buy in a shop. Many years ago I made a castle cake for my son’s fifth birthday and the turret was leaning over so badly (along with all sorts of other flaws) that I was really worried about it. When my son saw it he announced, “It’s the best cake in the whole wide world!” and the memory of that moment still makes me really happy.

Refhairandhottubs · 30/04/2024 18:18

Aw they're cute! Your daughter will love them. I think the love that goes into homemade birthday cakes means a lot more than a cake made by a professional. I remember all the cakes that my mum made for me.

RandomUsernameHere · 30/04/2024 18:27

They're great and I think your DD will like the cake even more because you made it. I know both my DC would rather have a less professional looking cake made by me than one I had bought.

J3001 · 30/04/2024 18:37

I love them

ClemmyTine · 30/04/2024 18:53

They're really good.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/04/2024 18:58

I'm genuinely impressed!

Bippertyboo2 · 30/04/2024 19:02

They look amazing, well done

Efrogwraig · 30/04/2024 19:04

I think they're good, use them.

I always did sponge with green butter icing, lightly forked to be grass then plastic goals & football players! Not an artistic bone in my body.

RetirementIsGreat · 30/04/2024 19:06

I think they look great! I couldn't do that since I'm not creative at all.

fortifiedwithtea · 30/04/2024 19:09

They look mum made and that is a good thing. Your child will forever remember the cake and be proud of you.

If anyone laughs at rather than with you they are arseholes so their opinion doesn’t matter.

KnitFastDieWarm · 30/04/2024 19:12

I love them! i still remember every birthday cake my dad ever made me - sleeping beauty, rapunzel, and many princesses. Were they perfect? No. And they were all the better for it. Life isn’t a show, it’s about making things with love. Do yours look professional/perfect? No, but who cares? We don’t make stuff to look like we bought it off a shelf.

coolcoolcoolcool · 30/04/2024 19:16

I would be extremely proud if I'd made them. I'd love to be able to make a decent cake. My DD would be over the moon with those!

BoudiccaOfSuburbia · 30/04/2024 19:28

They are fab!

Home made, home decorated cakes are the best.

verabarbleen · 30/04/2024 19:42

I think they are amazing. They are slightly off which ofcourse is expected but I think that adds to it. I couldn't do anything as good as that. All that effort! You are a great mum .

verabarbleen · 30/04/2024 19:42

Yes dopey has seen some shit and it's real life! All the better

Hurryuphumphreygeorgeiswaiting · 30/04/2024 19:49

Looks great @AhBiscuits. I bet your Ds loved his birthday cake.
