do you judge other people's recycling boxes...?

Walking to work this morning, it's recycling day, one box was full, I mean full, of Smirnoff red bottles. Another of McEwans extra. Another had a lot of soft drink bottles and coke cans.

You can't help but wonder...

Nope absolutely not interested in other peoples eating/ drinking habits.

missshilling · 30/04/2024 14:27

We have wheelie bins with lids. I couldn’t judge even if I wanted to.

StarlightLady · 30/04/2024 15:16

So, are people judging me as sensible or evil by the regular appearance of condom boxes?

Elebag · 30/04/2024 15:28

Sensible.

Get a life?

I hate when people post this. This is a discussion board. People are free to muse about all sorts of stuff.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 30/04/2024 15:43

Could not give a flying feck! I'd hate if my recycling bin (with lid) fell over and emptied though. You sound really naive.

TheNoonBell · 30/04/2024 15:48

We had the "boxes of shame" until the council relented and gave us recycling bins. The key to hiding your shame used to be to put all the booze bottles at the bottom and then cover with a layer of plastics and tins.

Kalevala · 30/04/2024 16:21

I don't get the problem with boxes, I'd rather a box. There's no shame in a couple of wine bottles or half a dozen cider bottles in your recycling box.

Well, thank GOD we have a certain bin (round my way,) where all the recyclables are hidden away under the lid, (bottles, jars, plastics, and cans and tins,) just in case there is someone like YOU lurking in my village @BarrelOfOtters Hmm

Earwormed · 30/04/2024 22:02

I don't judge people on their recycling at all, but I do judge fly tippers, people who don't pick up their dogs poo and worse of all the people who do pick up the poo in a little bag but then leave it hooked over a fence post or something. That really gets my goat for some reason.

ThePoshUns · 30/04/2024 22:24

Yes! Even better my dog likes to stop and sniff them so I get to have a good old nose!

musicforthesoul · 30/04/2024 22:32

Don't tend to pay any attention to what people are putting out.

Based on this thread I'm sure I get judged every time I put the glass recycling box out though! Don't have much glass recycling apart from alcohol bottles and I can't be bothered to lug it round the front until its actually full. That takes a while but unless someone was making notes I don't see how they'd know I don't put it out for every collection.

AllTipAndNoIceberg · 30/04/2024 22:33

Fluffyc1ouds · 29/04/2024 13:02

Oh dear, this thread has made me really self conscious. We only put our glass recycling out when the box is full, which takes about 6-8 weeks. I suppose if someone was having a look they'd think we'd drunk that much in a fortnight.

Same! I hate lugging it back and forth from the spot where it normally lives, so I only put it out for collection every couple of months. Any judgy conclusions people might draw from it about our fortnightly alcohol consumption would be way off the mark.

daisydalrymple · 30/04/2024 22:49

I don’t judge, but I do have a little curious glance as I walk by, just the same kind of interest I have in other people’s shopping trolley contents.

ViscountessMelbourne · 30/04/2024 23:03

I'm far too busy judging people who've put the wrong thing in their recycling bin/put recyclables in the black bin/put books/clothes out in front of their house for other people to take just before a rainstorm.

coxesorangepippin · 01/05/2024 02:26

To be fair ours is full of biscuit boxes and wine bottles. But our rubbish bin is full of veg peelings... But unfortunately people don't see it!

EBearhug · 01/05/2024 03:10

A good thing, too! You don't want them judging you for not composting the peelings!
