Help me spend a £700 gift card

HelpMeSpendIt · 27/04/2024 12:54

To cut a long story short, I find myself in possession (legally!) of a £700 Argos gift card. I believe I can spend it in Argos, Sainsbury's or Habitat.

I'd like to use it to buy something for myself - not necessarily something for my home unless it could be considered a treat/indulgence. I can't think of something to use it for and I don't want to use it for several small things - I'd rather spend it on one big thing.

I don't need it to buy food, before anyone asks.

Sorry if this post offends anyone but I have this voucher and would like to spend it on myself (no kids so I'm not depriving them of anything).

Any suggestions?

OK, this will be difficult.

I'd get a top of the range hair dryer, hair straighteners, and some lovely bedding. But that would only spend half of it I guess.

Habitat do have lovely things, but I haven't been or looked in ages.

Do you have a workspace at home? I'd see if anything there could be upgraded.

PostHummus · 27/04/2024 13:00

Oh, you said one big thing. I'd buy an air con unit.

Clothes, perfume, make up, hair stuff?

Gadgets, any large goods?

Garden furniture?

Loads of wine?

Personally at the moment I’m dreaming of a hoover and a Dyson hair dryer, slippers and some storage. Jewellery might be nice too!!

Refhairandhottubs · 27/04/2024 13:02

I would go for an Apple Watch and Dyson hair straighteners from Argos.

Or maybe some garden furniture?

YellowRollercoaster · 27/04/2024 13:05

Couldn't you spend it on Sainsbury groceries this month & then just transfer £700 you'd have normally spent on that and spend it on whatever you want, from anywhere? Then you aren't so restricted with where to buy from.

GoodVibesHere · 27/04/2024 13:06

A comfy egg chair for the garden

That would be my recommendation too

Misena · 27/04/2024 13:09

Unless there’s something electronic you want, I’d also use it for weekly shopping and gift myself £700. I don’t think of Argos and Habitat as selling treats!

Misena · 27/04/2024 13:12

Btw, I have the same thing with a rather more modest M&S voucher. It’s going to get eaten up in no time on socks and bread so I’m giving myself the equivalent for something fun.

Jujubeez · 27/04/2024 13:14

Like others, I'd spend it on groceries and use the £700 on something else.

Another vote for this

I find myself under pressure to buy a big, luxury thing when I get my annual voucher from work as a gift. I overthink it!
i have previously bought: a sewing machine, new lamps, artwork, bedding/towels and garden things. Do you have a garden? You could get a fab sofa/ bbq area set up with £700

GiantPuffaJacket · 27/04/2024 17:06

Garden furniture

This is genius.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 27/04/2024 17:09

I think I would go with either Dyson hair wrappy thing, or Apple Watch, or hammock with frame for the garden (that everyone is told is mine), or I’d go with the plan of using the voucher for family food shop and each shop gifting myself the cash, then buying a nice bag.

Needmorelego · 27/04/2024 17:11

If you are finding it overwhelming to spend in one go on one big thing maybe divide it by 4 (£175) and buy one thing for your bedroom, one for your kitchen, one for your living room and one for your garden (or bathroom if you have no garden).
I'd spend it all on Lego

JennyfromtheBlok · 27/04/2024 17:13

If you don’t want to do the “Shop at Sainsburys and transfer the £700” idea - which is so bloody brilliant!!

How long is it valid for?

BIossomtoes · 27/04/2024 17:18

I’d buy Dyson hair straighteners then use the rest for groceries and put the cash in a separate account each time. And spend it in the Liberty perfume department.

Not19foreverpullyourselftogether · 27/04/2024 17:18

A new bed frame and a couple of sets of bedding, a big framed print and a couple of garden chairs. All from Habitat.

MaseratiIsYellow · 27/04/2024 17:21

Dyson Airwrap

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 27/04/2024 17:22

As we are looking at moving soon, I would be looking at fridges and freezers! But if not, I would look at either a keyboard and add money to it, or a new bed frame or garden furniture.

do you have any Barclaycard points you can add to it?!

Yeah this unless you're into Elizabeth Duke

ElderMillenials · 27/04/2024 17:35

What are yours interests or style?

Dyson air wrap ( I have one and it's life changing!) or IPL if you're into beauty

Laptop/electronics

Gaming system

Nice garden furniture, with fire pit or heater, lounger or egg chair for extra comfort
