I know, why don't we send them all to Rwanda?

Does anyone else think this sounds like a suggestion someone made as a joke, to liven up a dull or fraught meeting and somehow, someone decided to run with it?

I’m reminded of people getting aggressive on hearing Covid zero wouldn’t happen or we couldn’t close borders as NZ did

It’s really poor reaction to facts. Do people just yell when they hear stuff they don’t like irl? It’s not going to help change the obvious difficulties that will happen with migration

HannibalHeyes · 24/04/2024 20:30

No facts coming from you though. Just an agenda.

And a bit rich of you to be accusing other people of being aggressive. We can see your repeated posts you know...

HannibalHeyes · 24/04/2024 20:32

In fact (ha ha), if anything, you're immune to facts, as you refuse to acknowledge any of them.

EasternStandard · 24/04/2024 20:34

No agenda just the general point that demand is high and no country can meet it with enough yes responses

So traffickers will have a business

I don’t get the blindness to that as it’s pretty obvious how high demand is. People lash out or whatever but it doesn’t change what’s happening globally

It’s just trends

EasternStandard · 24/04/2024 20:35

No agenda when people misunderstood closing borders or zero covid either but it didn’t stop people reacting in the same angry way

HannibalHeyes · 24/04/2024 20:35

It's still nonsense though.

If they have a safe and legal route, they're not going to need nor want to use traffickers.

How you can refuse to understand something so basic is why you so clearly have an agenda.

Notonthestairs · 24/04/2024 20:36

The Government is free to introduce hardline policies.
It has had a majority in Parliament for a decade.

Regardless of any policy (hardline or other) it would preferable if they offered evidence of the likelihood of success of such policy before they spent £600 plus million elsewhere.

Would you say demand is high?

Higher than we can say yes to or that we can meet it?

Whereabouts does that fall for you - in terms of facts / number of people

AdamRyan · 24/04/2024 20:36

EasternStandard · 24/04/2024 20:24

Nice try again with the insults

You do lash out why?

It’s not going to decrease the migration pressures or political shift that’s going on generally 🤷‍♀️

Why is it an insult to ask someone if they are a reform member?
Who are you voting for?

HannibalHeyes · 24/04/2024 20:37

I'm not saying it will eliminate all trafficking ever, but if you can reduce it by 90 or 99%, I'd say that's a win.

Ok I know it’s baffling atm but think about how many people you’d need to say yes to for that need to use traffickers to end

AdamRyan · 24/04/2024 20:39

We are already letting in 750,000 on visas.
We could cut back in some places and make 100,000 visas for safe and legal routes?

HannibalHeyes · 24/04/2024 20:41

Exactly! It's numbers! Surely you like those?

EasternStandard · 24/04/2024 20:43

Don’t spiral @HannibalHeyes think about how many yes you need and from which countries to meet the demand so traffickers are no longer required

Any notion of what that is?

HannibalHeyes · 24/04/2024 20:45

There you go with your numbers again!

What's wrong with dealing with each case as a human being.

Particularly as we're taking ten (that's a number) times as many on visas!

It's a ridiculous, stupid, facetious argument! And yet here you are making it yet again!

I’m not sure why this is such a hard question for you but yes you’ll need to say yes or no to people applying

If you say yes to say 20k from one country the next person who gets a no is still a person (correct on that one) with the desire to get out. Traffickers respond to those with a no

At some point you’ll have to overcome getting increasingly aerated over numbers (what a thing to react to so much) as you cannot meet the demand

if you cannot meet demand then people will pay as they do now

HannibalHeyes · 24/04/2024 20:51

It really is nonsense. Do you really want to have a specific number for each and every country?

That's just stupid!

Notonthestairs · 24/04/2024 20:53

One of the core goals of the Rwanda plan is to deter small boat migrants - but most Britons (57%) think it will be ineffective in this regard

Only 23% think it will be effective

HannibalHeyes · 24/04/2024 20:53

You do know, don't you, that over 90% of asylum cases are approved in this country (after appeal)?

Why do you hate foreigners so much?

Blimey

Can you see that you cannot meet demand and if you can’t people will pay?

Oh my goodness you’re not improving much with the logic

HannibalHeyes · 24/04/2024 20:56

It's not a supermarket! Supply and demand isn't a big factor in helping people escape from persecution!

And the 500 million wasted on the Rwanda scheme would help considerably. As would the 1.5 Billion wasted on the Bibby Stockholm and the other one (which has surprise surprise all gone in to the pockets of a Tory donor).

This is desperate!

Ok so you’re saying yes to everyone?

Well that might do it, but it’s also not feasible as you’d likely find it overwhelming

Can you think about how many you envisage?

I know you freak out about ‘numbers’ but it does actually make a difference to how possible this is

HannibalHeyes · 24/04/2024 20:59

(And the irony of Eastern accusing other people of bad logic!)

HannibalHeyes · 24/04/2024 21:00

I'm not the one freaking out over "numbers"! That's you!

Really! Listen to yourself!
