Mr Gasp is just running through a few of those on Spotify.

So far we've had:

Right Said Fred (made me sad, hearing dear Bernard Cribbins Sad)
Nelly the Elephant
Loving you has made me bananas
Run Rabbit Run

I'm hoping for A Windmill in Old Amsterdam soon.

Any other suggestions?

Pink toothbrush Blue toothbrush is bringing back lots of memories!
Michael Finnegan

Puff the magic dragon was not in the All Aboard record, but I loved it. There was a book Everyday Singaway by Toni Arthur, with many of the songs already mentioned, including halfway down the stairs. Some others in that book are:
Sing a rainbow.
Frog went a-courting.
Hallowe’en is coming.
Michael Finnigan.
Michael, row the boat ashore.
Mango Walk.
The Derby Ram.
Football Crazy.
When I’m sixty-four.

Someone left a cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
Cos it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have the recipe agaaaaaaaain!

My dad used to sing us songs from the magical world of Roger Whittaker, especially ‘nasty spider’. It’s had my DD in peals of laughter this evening along with some accompanying tickles 😄
Puff and yellow submarine were other wider family favourites.

I sang loads of these to my kids when they were babies, I was born early 1980s so a lot my parents sang to me!

they were also big fans of Tom Lehrer so I remember the lyrics to a lot of those too.

The king of the Singdom of Song.
”send for the prime minister!”
”From now on, everyone has to sing everything.”

Well, Jemima, let’s go shopping.
Are we walking? No, we’re hopping.

I’m the man in wellington boots,
who stomps and stomps until he finds his slippers.
and when he finds his slippers, he pitters and potters until he finds his ipad paper.
i’m the lady in high heeled shoes,
who tipples and topples until she finds her slippers.
and when she finds her slippers, she slippers and sloppers until she finds her paper.

Ta ra ra boomdiay

On top of spaghetti, all covered in cheese, I lost my poor meatball when somebody sneezed

Down on the banks of the hanky panky

Oh you'll never go to heaven

Jake the Peg, with his extra leg.
(yes I know, rolf Harris, but it was funny.)
”the day that I was born, my father nearly died.
he couldn’t get my nappies on, no matter how he tried.”
“to count to ten, I used my fingers, and if I needed more,
by taking shoes and socks off, I could count to twenty-four.”

Gosh these are bringing back memories! My dad loved playing us silly songs when we were kids (he was born in the late 50s and my siblings and I were born in the early - mid 90s)

My Boomerang Won’t Come Back
My Old Man’s a Dustman
Pink Toothbrush
Wooly Bully (an utterly ridiculous song that we had played at Dad’s funeral)

The Yin Tong Song by the Goons.
The Gnu song, The Hippopotamus song and pretty much anything else by Flanders and Swann.
They're Coming to Take Me Away Ha Ha by Napoleon the Thirteenth, or Fourteenth, I can't remember.
My Old Man's a Dustman by Lonnie Donnegan
The King is in the Altogether by Danny Kaye
Lah Di Dah by Jake Thackray

Noooooo! Richard Harris talking for what seemed several hours!

CanadianJohn · 20/04/2024 22:51

My father used to sing
Oh Mrs McGraw the sergeant said
Would you like to make a soldier out of your son Ted
With a scarlet coat and a big top hat
Oh Mrs McGraw wouldn't you like that
With a too-ry-ay..

SnakesAndArrows · 20/04/2024 23:00

Tzena Tzena Tzena Tzena
Can’t you hear the music playing
In the village square?

SnakesAndArrows · 20/04/2024 23:02

Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick was Ian Dury and the Blockheads, not Boney M, wasn't it?

It certainly was.

Boney M sang Rasputin and By the Rivers of Babylon.

Noooooo! Richard Harris talking for what seemed several hours!

We just used to sing that bit of the song, I didn't realise for years it was a real song, I just thought it was a silly thing from my family!

Turmerictolly · 20/04/2024 23:18

So many memories here.

Many already mentioned. I also loved Lily the Pink when I was a kid.

Loathed The Laughing Policeman.

I’m here to say Lily the Pink too. I was in the infants school and we’d run around the hall to it in our vests and knickers! (Early 70s)
Also had an LP of Ken Dodd and the Diddy Men which was played at home on the radiogram, ‘Where’s me shirt?’ Have played and sung this to DH when he’s asked if he’s got any clean work shirts!

BlueThursday · 20/04/2024 23:21

The first song I remember is Relax by FGTH. My cousin was playing the radio and given the rural location it must have been Radio 1 as not much else could reach so I must have only been about 18 months old
