Mr Gasp is just running through a few of those on Spotify.

So far we've had:

Right Said Fred (made me sad, hearing dear Bernard Cribbins Sad)
Nelly the Elephant
Loving you has made me bananas
Run Rabbit Run

I'm hoping for A Windmill in Old Amsterdam soon.

Any other suggestions?

Star trekking
Court of king caractacus
Mimic man
La bomba

They were out long before I was a child but I grew up with these songs!

usernother · 20/04/2024 21:44

There they are all standing in a row
Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head
Give em a twist, a flick of the wrist
That's what the showman said

My old man's a dustman, he wears a dustman's hat, he wears cor blimey trousers, and he lives in a council flat.

You canny push yer granny off a bus

Chirpy chirpy cheep cheep

frenchfancy81 · 20/04/2024 21:49

Alice the Camel
Oh you'll never get to heaven...
My old man's a dustman
When I'm cleaning windows (win-dahs)
In an English country garden
Magic Penny

The bravest animals in the land
Are Captain Beaky and his band
That's Timid Toad, Reckless Rat, Artful Owl and Batty Bat

Yes this! I’ve never met anyone in RL who had heard of this. My dad was convinced I liked it, it creeped me out for some reason.

The sun has got its hat on …

Soubriquet · 20/04/2024 21:57

I don’t remember much of my childhood songs beyond things like Old Macdonald and How Much Is That Doggy In the Window but the songs from when my kids were little are a permanent ear worm… I regularly find myself singing “I had a little turtle”. My youngest is 9!

noodlezoodle · 20/04/2024 22:02

Excellent thread Gasp! I now have all these running round my head. Haven't seen anyone mention Bananas in Pyjamas yet!

Ormally · 20/04/2024 22:02

tinkerbellesslagoon · 20/04/2024 22:05

90s child, I remember the ‘Peaches’ song in the charts. So random!

Raggydollz · 20/04/2024 22:05

The frog song.. Paul McCartney, gosh I loved that song when I was small

SeanBeansMealDeal · 20/04/2024 22:06

I was an adult long before Right said Fred came along. My youth was Boney M "Hit me with your rhythm stick"...

The "ate a bumblebee" song (stung by, squished, licked, brought up and more...as the verses go on)...

I don't think anyone's referring to the band Right Said Fred; we're talking about the song that was recorded by the lovely and greatly missed Bernard Cribbens.

Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick was Ian Dury and the Blockheads, not Boney M, wasn't it?

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 20/04/2024 22:08

Soooo many good songs already mentioned!

also...

a bicycle made for two
the frog chorus
me ol' bamboo

scalt · 20/04/2024 22:08

Jamaican alphabet was one I remember from school, which was an alphabetical list of exotic fruits.

My favourites from the All Aboard (runaway train) record:
Morningtown Ride: I still love that song.
My boomerang won’t come back.

Lots of songs from Play School:
caterpillars only crawl.
fidget: a song about not being able to sit still.
“I look in the air, I look at the floor.
I look left, and right, and it’s all such a bore!”
The Israeli boat song.
One potato, two potato.
The paper song: “if all the world were paper, what a strange world it would be.
”with paper clouds, and paper sun, and paper sugar in paper tea.”
how high does a fly fly.
The never song:
”I’ve used a telephone dial, I’ve used a radio dial, I’ve used a washing machine dial, I’ve used a TV dial. I’ve used a sundial, I’ve used a safe dial, but I’ve never used… a crocodile.”

LaMarschallin · 20/04/2024 22:09

MojoDojoCasaHouse

I loved Captain Beaky and his band:

They'd march through the forest, singing songs
And telling how they righted wrongs!

BertieBotts · 20/04/2024 22:16

I think I had the All Aboard (Runaway Train) cassette tape. Morningtown Ride makes me a bit weepy. I think Puff the Magic Dragon was on there as well??

I was obsessed with the laughing policeman. I showed it to DS years ago and he was unamused. Awful child Grin

A lot of these sketch type ones like Right Said Fred are brilliant. Much better than memes and tiktoks.

The sun has got its hat on …

Heard an updated version a couple of years ago as follows:
The sun has got his hat on
His wellies and his Mac
He's buggered off to Tenerife
Cos British weather 's crap.....
