RetroDesigned and LibbyLemoncake that is such a comfort and I don't even know how to tell you how much that means.

Maireas, plenty of good people doing nothing in terms of the Palestinian people.

There are plenty of good people doing nothing about child poverty, DV, or a host of other things.
I don't know what your point is?

headstone · 20/04/2024 19:04

I was agreeing with your point , Maireas

Oh, I see. I always think that it's a very salutary saying.

Who would you and the silent majority rise up against LibbyLemoncake?

Antisemites, I would imagine.

That first 'apology' was despicable, the fact they released it without apparently even realising how awful it was it definitely seems to show that this isn't just the odd racist policeman but rather a very deep-rooted issue across the force; presumably a few people at least would have approved it before it went out, and it was still only understood to be problematic after a public backlash. Just shocking.

We apologise for the apology.
The people responsible for the apology have been sacked.

Monty Python fans will need no clues as to the film that's from ...

The hateful anti-semites of course and all their brainless followers waving their flags and chanting slogans they don’t understand.

Because, to coin a David baddiel phrase : ' jews DO count ' and as a minority group, we stand alongside you in addressing anti Semitic abuse and hatred.

headstone · 20/04/2024 19:23

Hopefully any ‘rising up’ doesn’t involve any anti Muslim hatred or removing the freedom to protest.

Absolutely not, I have no hate.
I don’t agree with the marches but I 100% believe they should be allowed to protest, just as I believe a Jewish man should be allowed to cross the road in his own country without fear of arrest (or worse).

Muthaofcats · 20/04/2024 19:31

These were the exact conditions in 1930s Europe that precipitated the Holocaust.

We are soon to have our ‘never again’ moment.

And remember, first they came for the Jews….
but saying and doing nothing because you’re not a Jew won’t save you; you’re next if you allow our country to stand for this hatred.

we have to unite against this disgusting behaviour. This isn’t what it means to live in a peaceful democracy.

if those marching for Palestine are happy to stand with these people then they’re all complicit.

headstone · 20/04/2024 19:31

I totally agree with that too Libby.

headstone · 20/04/2024 19:35

These are not the exact conditions muthafcats unless in 1930s Germany The holocaust was triggered by people protesting about a genocide occurring in the Middle East.

Why would it? Why the need to connect combatting antisemitism to anti-Muslim hatred or removing the right to protest?
Hopefully, no-one’s trying to redirect this conversation away from the issue of the shameful antisemitism currently being exhibited in this country and twist the words and sentiments of posters coming together to discuss the need challenge it.

And that’s a truly disgusting thing to say.

headstone · 20/04/2024 19:47

Why is that a truly disgusting thing to say? I only studied history to GCSE level but I see no similarities between Britain now and 1930s Germany. We have the far right but they hate Muslims now. the term ‘silent majority’ is usually followed by a load of anti Muslim anti immigration hate and that that is what I’m referring to.

I think the policeman should tell him to leave as its a march full of frothing, idiot, violent twats!

This.

In 1930s Germany, there was a lot of propaganda that was designed to generate hate against Jewish people.

We can see the hate being generated in the media now against certain groups. But if people mention their concerns about the rhetoric and make comparisons to 1930s Germany, they get attacked by the Government and the right wing media.

What did Gary Lineker say about Nazi's and immigration? And why is everyone so angry about it? Here's all the information you need to know.

Comedycook · 20/04/2024 20:00

It's just hideous.

I come from a Jewish family...I'm not religious or practising but I consider myself Jewish. When I was a child I remember my mum explaining to me the stereotype that Jewish people are mean/misers. I remember being so confused as to why people must think this as my family are the most generous people you could imagine. I still don't understand the hatred

It is bad. People should be able to walk around without fearing that someone might attack them because they are a member of a group and the police should ensure that they keep the person safe from other people.

People can't choose to be trans.

I wonder what the reaction would be if a transwoman got accused of breach of the peace if they happened to be at an anti-trans protest?

You seem to be under the impression the march was against Jews. It (supposedly) wasn't. So there is no reason someone looking Jewish should be a problem. Unless, of course, you think Jews should all be collectively held responsible for what's happening in Israel. In which case you're an anti-Semite. So hopefully that's not the case and you're just being a bit clumsy with your words.

No, I am not suggesting that - and that is a massive twisting of words.

I was suggesting that if a transwoman was at a march that was anti-trans people, they could be asked by the police to moved as their presence could lead to a breach of the peace. Their safety could be in jeopardy as the protestors could turn on the transwoman. And I think that some of media reaction would be very different. They would say that they shouldn't have been there at that time.

Of course a Jewish person should be able to walk around in London without feeling afraid. They shouldn't have anything to fear. But clearly, as Jewish people have stated, there are some Jewish people who do feel afraid to go out in London because of these marches.
