What did you do for your 40th?

My 40th is coming up at the end of the year. So far no major plans. DH keeps asking what I’d like to do but I have no idea and honestly not sure I even want to do much at all.
I’m close with family and I have a DH and DC (still primary age) but unfortunately no friends, work colleagues etc so girls trips annd things are out.
Interested to know what other people did in the hopes it might give me some inspiration

Had a long weekend in Copenhagen with DH and the two DC (aged 8 and 1).

TBF it was a fact finding trip for a potential job move but it was a good place to go.

I took 5 of my closest friends out for lunch then the next day had a big party in a pub garden. It was a brilliant weekend. Wish I could do it again!

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 26/04/2024 17:05

DH was 40 in lockdown. The 5 of us got dressed up, made a massive cake and had a kitchen disco!

DrRichardWebber · 26/04/2024 17:05

I’m also 40 at the end of the year. It sounds a bit lame but I’m going to Center Parcs, staying in a super nice lodge overlooking the lake with a hot tub. We have 2 small kids so they will enjoy that. I can go to the spa, drink champagne in my hot tub and the kids will be happy. I’m then taking a few days off work to myself. One for lunch with DH somewhere nice. Another to do things for me, a facial maybe, get my nails done etc.

I also want crosstown vegan donuts, a card made by the kids, and a lie in.

LayllasBees · 26/04/2024 17:06

I spent a month travelling around Italy, did the same but in a different country for my 30th. I’ll do it again for my 50th somewhere, the only thing I’m looking forward to about hitting that milestone!

Popskipiekin · 26/04/2024 17:07

It’s my 40th soon. I was considering a massive party but am going to go with lots of mini celebrations instead. Taking 4 close girlfriends out for dinner & drinks. A spa night with DH. Lunch out with mil and our DC. Escape room with my family. Might even hire a bouncy castle (I did it on my birthday during Covid and have done every year since!) and have neighbours’ kids round. Need to fix a night out with a close friend for a joint 40th celebration. Not going to do these things all at once - I don’t see why I can’t celebrate for the whole year if I want to 😄

SilverSimca · 26/04/2024 17:08

Not much help to you but I hired a bar and had a big party.
For my fiftieth I would like to go to the hotel that Agatha Christie used to go to which you can only get to at low tide, I saw it on Mortimer and Whitehouse Go Fishing! I also want to visit the house that Green Knowe was based on; and do karaoke; and have another big party 😊

Soccermumamir · 26/04/2024 17:08

I had mine end of last year. Had a long weekend in Manchester with OH and the boys. Had a meal at The Hard Rock Cafe, and there was everything Halloween all over (my favourite time of the year) 🙂🖤 We then saw Fall Out Boy in concert 🫶🫶

HawkersEast · 26/04/2024 17:38

My DH and I went to Vegas and lived it up!

Quartzine · 26/04/2024 18:04

I gave birth to my second DS.

Powderblue1 · 26/04/2024 18:12

It's mine and DH 40th later this year. We are planning a trip abroad for a few days just us, but haven't decided where yet.

Going to do a city break with friends too.

OneMoreTime23 · 26/04/2024 18:14

2.5 week American road trip for the solar eclipse, with a long weekend in Iceland on the way back.

OrangeLemonLime24 · 26/04/2024 18:15

Sweet FA. Covid times 🙁

Daisy12Maisie · 26/04/2024 18:16

I went on my dream holiday with my 2 teenagers who were 13 and 15 at the time. I'm glad I did as the eldest moved out at 16 to do an apprentiship so it was our last big family holiday. I'm not normally big on birthdays but just decided to go all out for my 40th. No partner to consider.

FestivalFun · 26/04/2024 18:18

I had a party 4 days before my birthday and then flew to LA on my birthday, stayed for a few days and took DC to Disney there and then went on my first cruise to the Pacific side of Mexico.

Backinthedress · 26/04/2024 18:19

Cried in the shower because I felt so ill.
To be fair, this wasn't what I had actually planned... 🙄

Short city break with DP where I would be spoiled rotten and we would tell the waiters at every place we ate that it was my birthday. We still did the city break later on, but it wasn't the same without the silly bits.

21ZIGGY · 26/04/2024 18:20

I went to benidorm with my family, parents, oldest friends, uni friends, and my current crew. Was hot and fab. Great to mingle all the different groups in my life

Deludamol · 26/04/2024 18:22

I went out clubbing with my friends and then we all piled back to a house party and stayed up until the morning chatting and being silly. It was great.

Gymmum82 · 26/04/2024 18:23

Went to Rome with DH. Left the kids at home. It was amazing

Allmarbleslost · 26/04/2024 18:25
