What did you do for your 40th?

My 40th is coming up at the end of the year. So far no major plans. DH keeps asking what I’d like to do but I have no idea and honestly not sure I even want to do much at all.
I’m close with family and I have a DH and DC (still primary age) but unfortunately no friends, work colleagues etc so girls trips annd things are out.
Interested to know what other people did in the hopes it might give me some inspiration

Had a party, went on holiday and unexpectedly got pregnant

Made the decision to get divorced, which was the best present I could have given myself.

But for my 50th I went to Lake Como for a week with a night in Paris on the way, & had a brilliant time.

Another lockdown one here - also heavily pregnant with gestational diabetes. Kind of put me off birthdays altogether that one! Whatever you decide have the best time

Took a road trip and decided on the route as each stop had to start with a letter of my name. I ended the trip having spelt it out in full

Went for a walk. Face timed my parents. Was during the pandemic. Fun times.

Covid interrupted mine but we were going to do The Crystal Maze.

I travelled solo to Berlin for three nights and had a lovely time.

I went to Bruges for a long weekend with DH. I also had a lovely meal with about 12 friends in the private dining part of Nopi in London (where we lived at the time). Was lovely.

Was on a Mediterranean cruise, watching dolphins swimming alongside our ship.

I ran away on holiday with one of my best friends and our DH. We both had baby’s under 1 and were bored of people commenting we were older mothers. Now heading rapidly towards 50 with 2 DC in primary school and thinking of having a fabulous party and owning it. (But will probably chicken out nearer the time!)

I had a big party in a hotel jointly with a friend who was 40 the same week. It was brilliant.

For my 50th, I hired a venue that puts on magicians - so we had two magic shows with food at the interval. It was amazing.

I hosted a party and the next day DH and I flew to Morocco for some winter sun.

Had a lovely meal with my family. I had a party at home for my 50th. Shameful number of empty bottles and over a dozen taxis lined up in the road!

Went to Crete for 4 days with my husband. Did not want a party and my birthday is august so everyone is on holiday which is a pain. Had a party for my 50th though just a little one

Its 25 years ago and I've honestly forgotten. We were pretty skint at the time, so probably just went out for a curry or something.

I'm going to be 7.5 months pregnant so we're postponing celebrations til next year. I want to go on one of those fancy steam trains where they take you somewhere and you have nice food and drinks there and back. We are going out for dinner just the 2 of us though which is rare just now with an 18 month old!

DH and I went on a city break to Venice, which was great. I also went to a 90s night with my work colleagues.

I hosted a party which I LOVED. Went on a 5 day break to Barcelona with my DH and DC, some lunches/dinners with friends. What's your idea of a good time?

I had a week in the sun plus a huge festival themed party, loved that, spent a fortune on live music dj etc. I'm lucky my bday is in summer .

Went to St Tropez for a week with Dh and Dd.

I had a girls night with a few of my closest friends at home and hired a hot tub. On my actual birthday I went camping with my DH, DD and my parents :)

Flew in a Tiger Moth then went by Limo to London with family for a meal at Aldo Zilli. Was a bit sloshed and didn’t really enjoy the meal but the rest was great.
