Things you didn't think would happen today when you woke this morning...

Putting hay out and poo picking the horse track, as I do every morning, accompanied by four of my dogs, all completely normal and uneventful.

Suddenly a massive black shape appears and runs at an amazing speed straight for the dogs, turning one over and (briefly) pinning her to the ground. It took me a moment to realise it was a wild boar - thankfully a female as males have fearsome tusks. She then goes for another dog who has the good sense to scarper, as do I! The dog that was hit is unhurt but very shaken.

We often hear boars snuffling around and have got a bit blasé about sharing our space with them but I'm guessing she had babies with her as normally they run away on the rare occasion we spot them.

Plucking up courage to go and retrieve my wheelbarrow...

So, what happened to you today??

Wow, what a start to the day!!

I ran out of toothpaste (doesn't compare really!😁 )

IClaudine · 16/04/2024 08:25

Wow. Hope you and the dogs are recovered from the shock.

The only unexpected thing here is that it is not raining 😁

IntriguingFactJumble · 16/04/2024 08:29

Eek, what a fright! I was reading MN and swallowed my dispersible aspirin whole by mistake. Not quite as interesting as your story!

Jowak1 · 16/04/2024 08:33

It's Manchester and it's not raining 🌧️ 😂

PuttingDownRoots · 16/04/2024 08:33

I dreamt I was awake and getting on with work... it was a nasty shock to realise I wasn't!

HelloWorld68 · 16/04/2024 08:35

Those things scare the living daylights out me.

Hope they don't swim over the river and come to us!!

Unexpected thing I woke up to was .... WINNING THE LOTTERY!!

Only £20 but better than a kick in the teeth!

Tried out my new wild boar suit this morning. 🐗 A bit of a laugh but was nearly savaged by four dogs. Managed to get away safely.

Oh, and found a wheel barrow. I might put it on Ebay after I've run round the garden with it a few times.

Woke up an hour late, just going with it now, sat here eating toast, listening to Beyoncé. School gates just about to shut but I know it will make the kids super anxious if I rush them. Second bloody day back!

Defiantlynot41 · 16/04/2024 08:48

@Eyesopenwideawake are you in the Forest of Dean? The boars have babies at the moment and the mums are fiercely protective of them. Haven't seen any babies but they are super cute and called humbugs

SlowBurn · 16/04/2024 08:52

Yes where are you with the wild boar?!

Minerva14 · 16/04/2024 08:54

Alarm, went off at 6am, next I know it’s 6.50am and my friend is waiting outside to take DC to school. First day back after Easter hols, not the best start! Was carnage running round the house.

Stressful but not nearly as stressful as being almost gored by a boar!

Eyesopenwideawake · 16/04/2024 08:55

@Defiantlynot41 no, deepest central Portugal!

This is the only photo I have of some babies from four years ago.

Ah this probably doesn't count but I went to the main parcel office to retrieve a meandering parcel and recognised the guy there, he's worked there ages but I hadn't seen him for a long time. And thought how he's not changed since I saw him last, and that he's a nice guy, and cute. Just made me think of all the people walking around the place who I've interacted with on that brief level but that I've had nice thoughts about. (This is not one of those asking-the-postie-out stories, I'm happily married!) It also reminded me of the thought I often have about how there are people just existing who have great depth to them, intelligence and knowledge and experience, and you can't tell when you walk by them. They just look like normal people. I like people. And I hope your dog is ok!!

Grumblevision · 16/04/2024 12:01

Also OMG HUMBUGS thank you @Defiantlynot41

WittiestUsernameEver · 16/04/2024 12:03

DD4 got allocated the outstanding, over-subscribed, out of catchment primary school we wanted.... am still a bit dazed tbh.

Falderalagain · 16/04/2024 12:17

Peacefully having breakfast when a buzzing akin to a helicopter starts up, swiftly followed by the arrival of a queen hornet. Those things are enormous. Queenie quickly ushered out into the conservatory, and hence (I hope) into the open air.

Defiantlynot41 · 16/04/2024 12:20

@Grumblevision , your post instantly reminded me of this lovely quote from Donna Ashworth

And if you want to see pictures of boar and humbugs, have a look at Forest of Dean wildlife on FB or Instagram

Wild boar suit
😂😂😂

I lost the game thanks to my daughter shouting THE GAME at me as she ran through the school gates. I suppose that must mean she lost the game first but it's not much consolation.

I also had to tell my husband that a dear friend (works in theatre and gets discount) has sent tickets for my and my daughter's birthdays next month to see Mamma Mia the musical. Except unexpectedly she sent three "so he can go too". OMG his ashen face was a sight to behold.

Sjh15 · 17/04/2024 15:39

Oh wow!
I have to share my story from last Friday.
I was driving to a small town 10 mins away, to withdraw some cash for my niece and nephews birthday.
In was annoyed about it because it was last minute, my MIL was visiting them the next day an hour and a half away and she was getting the train she doesn’t drive, I was lugging my son out to withdraw cash and drop the cards around her house.
seems like a small task.
I parked at a petrol pump. i (stupidly??) got out of the car. Locked the door. Son and phone inside the car. I was about 10 Steps away.
withdrew the cash.
it was that exact moment that my key fob battery decided to die. Car wouldn’t open. Phone and son both inside the car.
The emergency blade I couldn’t work out where to insert it (in my car it’s in a stupid place, I didn’t know, I do now!)
rang partner by using the garages phone, to ring one work place, for the receptionist to ring him, to bring the spare key.
that also didn’t work! Luckily after 5 attempts it worked on the 5th. What are the chances both batteries would die on the same day.
