Where do you buy your every day tops and t-shirts from?

I'm looking for good quality plain or simple patterned non flouncy cotton tops and t-shirts for every day wear that are a normal length. It shouldn't be a big ask but it seems to be asking the impossible at the moment. Either the material is so thin it's almost see through or the length isn't there or it's got frills and sequins on it.

If you've found the holy grail where did you buy them from please?

I buy basics like that from M&S or Sainsbury’s. Maybe somewhere like Yours or Very might do longer ones? But I’ve not tried them.

MiddleAgedDread · 12/04/2024 10:06

sainsburys are pretty good although the sizing can be haphazard, I've got a size 8 one that's bigger than a size 14!

Primark over sized boyfriend style t shirts are nice and thick material, I have them in several colours.

Asda. I’m heading to Primark today too.

mitogoshi · 12/04/2024 10:20

Sainsbury's as in my town

iPreferBooks · 12/04/2024 10:25

M&S or Sainsburys. The mens shirts from sainsburys fit me quite well, plus there's no frills or a sequins.

fluffiphlox · 12/04/2024 10:26

Uniqlo?

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 12/04/2024 10:26

SHEIN.

I’m aware that everyone says it’s cheap crap but I’ve had stuff for years and it’s still going strong.

DaisyChain505 · 12/04/2024 10:26

H&M have a great range of good quality t shirts and plain tops.

PartOfTheFurniture12 · 12/04/2024 10:27

I've found Cotton Traders to be great for this sort of thing. Well worth a look.

ASighMadeOfStone · 12/04/2024 10:29

M&S (the mid-priced ones), Cos, Arket, Uniqlo (but only in-store as the quality is wild and varies from one t shirt to another even if it's an identical code!)

Happinessisamyth · 12/04/2024 10:31

Thank you, I'll hit the shops this weekend and have a look a the stores mentioned. I've never heard of uniqlo are they new?

Next. Think I was paying around £6 each and they were usually buy 3 for £x. Except I've just looked at the site now and they are all either individual or multipacks so you don't get the freedom of choosing the colours.

Sirzy · 12/04/2024 10:37

I get multipacks from next. I have 5 and wear one a day for work. They fit and wash well.

Jellyx · 12/04/2024 10:40

M&S and primark. COS if I want a good quality, non see through, white tshjrt for work.

menopausalmare · 12/04/2024 10:40

I'm a Matalan fan.

MorrisZapp · 12/04/2024 10:41

The H&M ones lose shape really quickly I've found. The neck goes all wonky and they get relegated to the pyjama drawer.

SheerLucks · 12/04/2024 11:13

I've always shopped in M&S for basics - we have a big flagship store just out of town and I spend an afternoon in there a few times a year trying loads on. They stock the full Autograph range too, plus Jaeger if you want some more upmarket stuff.

I'm going to try Sainsburys now based on this thread.

Also, a work colleague turned up recently in what looked identical to some expensive knee-high All Saints boots that a friend owned. Turns out they were £35 duplicates from Sainsburys!

AvoSourdough · 12/04/2024 11:49

I always recommend uniqlo (been wearing them for years) but recently rediscovered some from muji which I might actually prefer the fit of!

EwwSprouts · 12/04/2024 11:52

M&S, TKMaxx or Fruit of the Loom (long established brand) on Amazon

TheHorneSection · 12/04/2024 11:53

I live in those Next boatneck T-shirts you get as a multipack.

WeightoftheWorld · 12/04/2024 12:04

Supermarkets like Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's. To a lesser extent, Rapanui and H&M too.

EmmaStone · 12/04/2024 12:08

I think it also depends on the kind of fit you're looking for. For me, that usually means Cos is going to come out winning. I've recently travelled to the US after a 5 year hiatus, and Gap came up trumps for me - I bought 4 vest tops in different colours, and a few Ts. BUT, I've found in the past that the stuff I've had from Gap UK isn't always the same cotton quality as what I can get in the US. Now it's all online in the UK, it's probably the same stock as US, but I'm not sure.

ComputerInitiateJump · 12/04/2024 12:09

I got some of the next £6 ones and they've washed well so far and don't really need ironing if hung up for a few days - bonus.
