Where do you buy your every day tops and t-shirts from?

I'm looking for good quality plain or simple patterned non flouncy cotton tops and t-shirts for every day wear that are a normal length. It shouldn't be a big ask but it seems to be asking the impossible at the moment. Either the material is so thin it's almost see through or the length isn't there or it's got frills and sequins on it.

If you've found the holy grail where did you buy them from please?

Same. All I want is a plain black v neck t shirt that is long enough (5ft 10), not see through and not so stretchy that it is clingy... more skimming or loose or even oversized I would take!

Bobbybobbins · 13/04/2024 08:10

I like the basic Next cap sleeve t shirts at the moment for every day casual. And there are loads of colours.

Roserunner · 13/04/2024 08:13

I got some basic t-shirts from Primark a few years ago thinking they would do for now and they're my favourite ones and still look like new. I find they fit nicely, good length and flattering.

I got some tops from Sainsbury's last year and really disappointed in them. Some went really baggy/elasticy after a few wears and another got a hole.

BAM, Findra, Icebreaker, or Rapunai.

I like bamboo and merino.

Oh these look excellent, thanks for the tip!

Me too.
Quality is superior to other tops I have and they wash really well.

SHEIN.

I’m aware that everyone says it’s cheap crap but I’ve had stuff for years and it’s still going strong.

Huge second to SHEIN. Amazing quality and such a vast selection I can always find what I need. I have t shirts that I bought from there 8 years ago and still look immaculate.

KnittedCardi · 13/04/2024 09:13

OP wants v neck or scoop. None of the posted alternatives are. I sympathise OP. I too can never find flattering t's. Round necks don't suit, not do relaxed fit, or sloppy fit. I'm waiting for fashion to go back to stretchy ribbed v or boat necks. GAP used to be great for those back in the day.

I have caved and bought £35 White company, basic cotton vnecks, but have to size up for boobs, and then they are a bit short..... Sigh.

Heartfullofcheese · 13/04/2024 09:35

Morrisons do a scoop neck in black or white for £6 and it’s amazing. Soft, stretchy but not clingy.
surprising find but worth a look.

Wasn’t that a different poster?

ChampagneNightmares · 13/04/2024 09:42

Surely it depends on what style/look you're going for? Loads of people on here have recommended long and baggy t-shirts whereas I prefer a more fitted t-shirt to wear with wide legged bottoms.

I have loads from M&S - they're ribbed, stretchy and not too see through, even the white one. I have lots of long sleeved fitted/stretchy tops I got from New Look in the winter. I always seem to pick up good t-shirts from Tesco as well.

I don't rate the next ones. They are a hit shapeless and the choice of colours is also a bit meh.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/04/2024 09:50

Lands end. They do petite and long fitting in a lot of their styles, their petite supima Ts are one of my staples - decent cotton, choice of neck and sleeve length. They do other more fitted styles, and their vest tops are good too.

I find the commenters funny because the original poster asked for good quality tshirts and they recommend primark and HM. Just a waste or money and the shirt doesn't even last a summer.
GANT, Seasalt, COS, Tommy Hilfiger, Uniqlo, Superdry for good quality tshirts

wutheringkites · 13/04/2024 09:57

@justaanothermum

I've got some H&M t shirts that have lasted me years. I bought 3 from Superdry last Spring and 2 had holes in them by the end of summer.

Chemenger · 13/04/2024 10:01

Rapanui - you send them back when they wear out (hasn’t happened yet for me) and they recycle them. Otherwise Landsend - they seem to last for ever, I have a tee shirt from there that must be 15 years old.

My oldest t-shirt is from Primark. I’ve probably had it 10 years and it’s still jet black and hasn’t gone shapeless in spite of being washed countless times.

Octavia64 · 13/04/2024 12:08

Uniqlo

They are a Japanese brand so size small.

I'm a size 18 and I buy their extra large. I get their stuff from their London shop as it has trying in rooms but now I know my sizing I can order online.

They change their stock regularly but will have a particular item/cut in about 20 different colours which I find useful.

Augustus40 · 13/04/2024 13:38

I second Primark. A friend who regularly shops in John Lewis for clothes actually buys her pyjamas from Primark. Similarly a jumper from Primark I have had c 20 years is still going strong.

CornishPorsche · 12/04/2024 19:42

I live in these too, the red and green ones are particularly bright.

Sallyingon · 13/04/2024 15:27

Gap. I like the shorter ones

ErnestCelendine · 13/04/2024 15:29

The Next ones too!

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 13/04/2024 15:34

I like a roomy boxy fit but not too big/oversized.

I like the basic ones from M&S (£8.50!) and JL, though they are a bit shorter in the body and narrower in the shoulders but great for £10. Good colour choices and they both wash and tumble well and last for the price. If spending a bit more, the COS ones are excellent, finer, silkier feel and slightly longer sleeves than the ones previously mentioned.

CornishPorsche · 12/04/2024 19:42

Thank you for this! Exactly what I’ve been looking for, so I’ve just bought eight.

blue345 · 13/04/2024 19:09

Uniqlo. Good quality cotton that keeps it shape and doesn't bobble (like GAP used to back in the day). They're also well-priced.

Gingernan · 14/04/2024 10:32

Sainsburys as its the only place near me. I like the quality and fit on me and they do last for years.
