Wine and cheese party for one

cupidsabsolutepsyche · 09/04/2024 20:10

DP is going away for a few days and I'm planning my peaceful evenings.

Wine and cheese and whatever other lovely things one evening. What wine would you pick? What cheese? Shall I do a theme, French/Spanish/Italian?
Wine

Oooh swoon. French for me - Comte, Brie, Boursin (is that French?)
Bordeaux and Picpoul

Darklane · 09/04/2024 20:17

Sounds perfect. Get a selection of cheeses, a good strong extra mature cheddar, Lancashire, a nice blue cheese plus whatever else takes your fancy.
With frozen grapes & either a good red wine or a bottle of fizz.

ladymalfoy45 · 09/04/2024 20:20

Lancashire Cheese Bomb and a spoon. Carr's Cheese Melt Crackers.

WaltzingWaters · 09/04/2024 20:21

Ooo enjoy. Malbec and a really strong extra mature cheddar, a smoked cheese of some kind, and a Brie.

Redshoeblueshoe · 09/04/2024 20:25

All of the above sound perfect

MrsR87 · 09/04/2024 20:26

If I was going to go for a theme - I’d go for French! But I think I’d just go for my absolute favourites; a stinky blue cheese, a strong cheddar, some goats cheese and some Neufchâtel!

For wine, it would be a gavi or a Viognier for me. 🥰

cupidsabsolutepsyche · 09/04/2024 20:36

@Soonthen I like this, two wines!

Sounds like I'm chucking a Lancashire bomb in there, just looked that up, yum!

Luckily there is a cheese shop near my house

What other crunchy things?
Oh and loving the frozen grapes suggestion, thanks!

I find membrillo always makes my cheese evenings a little better.

As tempting as a themed evening is, I'd hate to feel limited in any way cheese-wise.

On your own? The stinkier the better. Get yourself some taleggio.

Fluffywigg · 09/04/2024 20:41

I like putting Brie in the oven so it’s all gooey and then dipping in ciabatta or another nice fresh bread.

I also like fresh olives and a selection of dry cured meats.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 09/04/2024 20:42

Boursin breaded in panko breadcrumbs and put in the air fryer for 5 mins then a drizzle of honey - gorgeous!

Diversion · 09/04/2024 20:44

A nice cabernet, garlic and rosemary crackers or sea salt crackers. Brie, soft blue cheese, some cured meats, some pate and a crusty loaf. Oh dont forget the butter, needs to be a block of salted butter, not Lurpak and definitely not that spreadable stuff. Sounds like a wonderful evening 😀

dudsville · 09/04/2024 20:47

This is such a great idea!

WhatToDoNowEh · 09/04/2024 20:50

You lucky bugger

opentoadvice88 · 09/04/2024 20:51

Manchego with a Rioja Reserva or Gran Reserve

Comte with Corbieres or something Southern French

ThankFitsFriday · 09/04/2024 20:58

I love this! What a treat! I’m intrigued to hear more about the evening plans - will you be watching a tv show / film while enjoying the cheese and wine, listening to music? Lighting favourite candles?

I’m going to have my own cheese and wine night the next time I get an evening to myself :)

WhamBamThankU · 09/04/2024 21:12

Aldi have brought out a blue cheese made from goats milk, it's utterly divine.

Rosesanddaisies1 · 09/04/2024 21:20

Love this, I’m counting down until my baby is out and I can do the same 😚

OooohLaLa · 09/04/2024 21:27

@Soonthen

"is that French?"

Du pain, du vin, du Boursin.

bluetopazlove · 09/04/2024 21:27

Ooo I use to love when my husband worked away for months at a time and I used to have the house I wanted . Maybe some nice snacks (to cheer myself up of course ) . Novelty wore off of of course . Have fun ! 😋

cupidsabsolutepsyche · 09/04/2024 21:29

All of these ideas are fab, thank you!
I really want fresh crusty bread, but it gives me stomach ache. Maybe one of those half baguettes?

So, Lancashire bomb
Comte
Taleggio
Stilton
Probably manchego with some membrillo
Frozen grapes
Sea salt crackers
Water biscuits
Little bread
Butter, god I love butter
Olives
Pate
Bordeaux
Viognier

Theme is European, then

@ThankFitsFriday, I do need something to watch, I might watch the Godfather maybe, I've never seen it. But recommendations most welcome!
Absolutely yes to candles, I have some lovely little green glass tea light holders that are next to a vase full of tulips and daffs, making me happy

Pregnant here so vicariously living through your cheese and wine dreams…
I would get one of those fromagerie little cheese plates from M&S, some lovely crackers and a French red wine. Yummmmm

Hols24 · 09/04/2024 21:33

I'd do full French - so baguette rather than crackers, unsalted butter, and a few lovely French cheeses, probably including some goats cheese, a camembert and something hard like Comté. And some saucisson!

Redshoeblueshoe · 09/04/2024 21:34

I hope I'm not going out on Saturday, this sounds perfect

1ittlegreen · 09/04/2024 21:35

Stinking Bishop, deffo if you're own your own, with runny honey 🍯
