Wine and cheese party for one

DP is going away for a few days and I'm planning my peaceful evenings.

Wine and cheese and whatever other lovely things one evening. What wine would you pick? What cheese? Shall I do a theme, French/Spanish/Italian?

Depending on your cheese shop see if they have one called Ribblesdale Blue. It's a blue goats cheese but neither too blue, nor too goat, just perfect. Maybe with a ripe pear if you can find one at this time of year, or figs.

Finally found a link that wasn't 3 million lines long 🤪

I would get Ossay-Iraty, Roquefort and a goat's cheese coated in ash, for me. Plus Comté and something like Saint-Marcellin if being really greedy.

I also love classic manchego curado and Stilton but the flavours would clash with the others.

cupidsabsolutepsyche · 09/04/2024 21:44

@MrsMagWeary I would love that but pears give me terrible wind Envy

I will look for the cheese though!

For those who are pregnant and dreaming of cheese, it was the first thing I did when I got home after giving birth and it was GLORIOUS

Any type of blue cheese for me, also Compte, strong cheddar aged in a cave. My preference is red wine, Malbec.

Also with fruit, grapes/pear/apple/berries/dried fruit.

SleepyRooster · 09/04/2024 22:05

Brilliat Savarin is sooooo good.
Comte
Manchego
Chilli jam
Big green olives
Caper berries
A Spanish red
Fancy cheese knife
No crackers - get straight to the good stuff!

indignatio · 09/04/2024 22:33

Port, figs, celery and baguette for me please with oozing Brie, havatti, comte and Stitchleton (sp?).

All of these ideas are fab, thank you!
I really want fresh crusty bread, but it gives me stomach ache. Maybe one of those half baguettes?

So, Lancashire bomb
Comte
Taleggio
Stilton
Probably manchego with some membrillo
Frozen grapes
Sea salt crackers
Water biscuits
Little bread
Butter, god I love butter
Olives
Pate
Bordeaux
Viognier

Theme is European, then

@ThankFitsFriday, I do need something to watch, I might watch the Godfather maybe, I've never seen it. But recommendations most welcome!
Absolutely yes to candles, I have some lovely little green glass tea light holders that are next to a vase full of tulips and daffs, making me happy

Celery and apple slices for crunch would make this perfect.

I got DH to bring me a selection of soft cheeses in hospital as I couldn't wait!

Davros · 09/04/2024 23:11

British cheese all the way. Branston, digestives, honey with truffle

mrsm43s · 09/04/2024 23:13

St Felicien
Roquefort
St Paulin (Port Salut)
French Goats cheese
Camembert (possibly baked)
Olives
Fresh vine cherry toms
Grapes
Crackers (rosemary and seasalt is my preference)
Baguette
Lovely butter with seasalt
Saucisson Sec
I'd probably have Malbec with it, although I should probably go for something French.

R41nb0wR0se · 09/04/2024 23:15

Pie d'angloys and Morbiere. Maybe a nice smoked cheese too and a goats cheese. Simple sea salt crackers, with salted butter. Some really nice vine ripened cherry tomatoes.

JaneIves · 09/04/2024 23:18

Sharpham cremet and truffle honey.
A lovely Chablis.

bettybadger · 09/04/2024 23:57

I'm so hungry now!!!

PollyPeep · 09/04/2024 23:59

I may be overly cautious here but if you're on your own make sure you halve those frozen grapes!! Then again, I'm terrified of choking lol.

PhuckyNell · 10/04/2024 00:00

My dh is also away! Friday to Tuesday 👏

cupidsabsolutepsyche · 10/04/2024 10:09

So many to choose from!
I love the idea of something with honey..

Might actually try some completely new to me cheeses from these ideas. With a Bordeaux and either a Viognier, or possibly fizz.

I'm adding chilli jam to the list, plus apple and frozen grapes. And probably water biscuits.

Teen DD will be here and will very likely join in for a less stinky cheese.

Thanks for the suggestions, and others whose DH are away, doooo it!

It'd be a dry white for me. I love any cheese, but if I had to pick Stilton ot a very mature cheddar.

Can you extend your evening to two and I'll join you 😉
