Do you wake up to go toilet during the night?

Just wondering really.
My friend thinks I have a problem because I wake to go wee during the night. I've always done it. Not an age thing but I drink loads of water during the day
She reckons she never has the urge and can sleep for 12 hours
I also remember my ex never getting up to wee either
It's fine right? Please just tell me she has an iron bladder lol

@Pinkpinkpink15

Sorry didn't mean to offend. I was genuinely suprised. Really sorry if it came across rude xxx

pambeesleyhalpert · 07/04/2024 13:47

Ive always woken at least once for a wee. Always have done

Bobbotgegrinch · 07/04/2024 13:50

Yep, every night.

I drink about 3-4 litres a day though. Mostly water (and a few cans of beer on the weekend)

If I don't drink anything for a couple of hours before bed then I won't need to but sod that!

KThnxBye · 07/04/2024 13:57

I never do and never have. I didn’t when I was pregnant either - I woke up lots then, but never because I needed a wee.

I drink lots including lots of coffee, lots of water and lots of alcohol depending on the way.

I often don’t get loo breaks at work either so it’s not unusual for me to go 8-9 hours without a wee in the daytime.

Maybe I am also a camel.

Top Trumps on how many litres of water one can drink in a day...

So far on this thread, 2L, now 3L....

Any manage 4L in a day?

Don't be rude here. 3 l was my average since young years. I drunk from half liter glasses. I don't go around and sip constantly though.
No top trumps. It's just how much I drink🤷

@Vettrianofan I'd be concerned if someone wasn't drinking at least 2 litres of water a day, it really isn't a lot.

I haven't suggested 2litres is an unachievable amount in one day to consume....🤔

I drink around that if not more most days between cups of teas, coffees, herbal teas and water!

@Blythe1973

then why say. Wow as if

???

Really rude.

Good grief, what a pile on! I honestly wish folk on MN would stop looking for constant faults to pick pick pick! No need.

Everything seems to deliberately get taken the wrong way....

A lot of people need to urinate overnight. Most people get the urge to empty their bladder around 300-400 mls and are absolutely busting around 600-800 mls.
BUT … every bladder is different. Some hold more and some hold less.
Sometimes it is other factors causing people to get up overnight. People with sleep apnea, for example, produce more urine over night than during the day.
Unless it is a problem for you, getting up once at night is considered relatively normal.
If it turns into more or affects your quality of life, then seek medical help.
I get up once overnight as I always have a hot chocolate before bed and chocolate is a bladder stimulant.

I didn't know that about sleep apnea! Useful to know as I was recently diagnosed with it. That explains a lot, as I'm always waking up needing the loo.

@Vettrianofan

perhaphs look at your own posts before criticising others.

No, never.

RandomUsernameHere · 07/04/2024 21:19

Rarely

Dreamer2027 · 07/04/2024 21:33

On a bad night it can easily be 3 times I need to get up. It seems to be I'm thinking if I've had a couple extra cups of tea than I might usually drink as I do love a cup of tea and also it seems Apple Juice makes me need to go more.

Mistymist · 07/04/2024 21:40

Yes, I do. Sometimes once, sometimes more depending on the fluid intake before bed. If I drink tea before going to bed then I'll wake up more than twice. I can't remember how it used to be when younger, but I think I have always gone to the loo frequently at night. I used to be a night owl so going to the toilet during the night was pretty normal.

Bichonmum · 07/04/2024 21:50

I usually need to go if I am disturbed.

I very rarely sleep through, most nights the dog or hot sweats wake me and I need to go. Sometimes it can be 3/4 times during the night.

whiteboardking · 07/04/2024 23:21

Yes and always have

lifeisawillow3 · 07/04/2024 23:27

Yep. I'm 27, wake at least 3x but can be more. Thought I had diabetes for ages. Had all blood tests and gp says it's irritable bladder or something. Very annoying

NPET · 04/10/2024 22:15

I'm 20, don't usually.
Do if I've been out drinking (no I don't usually do that these days!).
When I was first living alone and had been out drinking, I famously fell asleep having a pee. My friend said "well you were in the right place for the next time your bladder woke you".

StMarieforme · 04/10/2024 23:12

61 and only if I eat 2 or 3 portions of fruit! Otherwise no.
