Do you wake up to go toilet during the night?

Just wondering really.
My friend thinks I have a problem because I wake to go wee during the night. I've always done it. Not an age thing but I drink loads of water during the day
She reckons she never has the urge and can sleep for 12 hours
I also remember my ex never getting up to wee either
It's fine right? Please just tell me she has an iron bladder lol

Very rarely. The only times I regularly did was when I was pregnant and when DD was little and woke me up during the night.
The menopause made no difference.

I won't see 60 again.

Mindymomo · 07/04/2024 07:39

If I wake up, then I need to go, then if I stay awake after, I sometimes go again. If I don’t wake up, then obviously I don’t need to go. I’d say more than often, I go once in the night, DH and adult DS1 the same, DS2 can go all night and more before he needs to go.

Never.
I drink about 2L of water a day.

No it's just ace you can drink two litres omg I wish I could. Even if I have one I would be up all night. Makes je think I have a small bladder I dunno.

DustyLee123 · 07/04/2024 07:48

No. But when I started drinking 2L of water I did, so I stopped it. Sleep is more important for me than water

theshirespace · 07/04/2024 07:49

All the time, but I’m in my 50s and it definitely seems to be an age thing because it never happened when I was younger.

Blythe1973 · 07/04/2024 07:51

@Pinkpinkpink15

Not doubting at all! Just never had this conversation before and made me really think I must have a rubbish bladder.. I only drink about a litre and up twice in night but I drink a cup of tea before bed. I always assumed anyone who drinks two litres would be up all night it just goes to show it's not true! What an eye opener. My DH up twice and says oh it's because I drink loads. This is a great thread lol

BooksAndHooks · 07/04/2024 07:51

Never, nor does DH. Once I’m in bed I don’t get up if I can help it for anything. I was absolutely exhausted when I was pregnant and had to keep getting up to use the loo. I can’t imagine doing it all the time.

Instantcustard · 07/04/2024 07:53

No which is lucky as I find it hard to get back to sleep if I wake up.

loadingposts · 07/04/2024 07:53

If I'm on a healthy eating kick and eating more veg and drinking more water, then yep! I usually wake up bursting at about 3am and then again when I wake in the morning.

PinkSunsetSky · 07/04/2024 00:08

I do
Every night
3/4 am

Same. I've been like this years before having children too. In my 40s now. DH 50 and he is like this.

rainontherooftop · 07/04/2024 07:17

I do wake once or twice most nights - I've realised that if I don't drink tea after 6pm I'm less likely to get up. I assume it must be caffeine related but I like a cuppa in the evening 😬 maybe I'll try some caffeine free if I get round to it.

I drink lavender tea one hour before falling asleep every night.

NoNameisGoodEnough · 07/04/2024 08:03

I always have got up once. It is a rare occasion I sleep all night and don't get up. Sometimes it can be more than once but once is my norm. DH or DD don't usually.

Remo22 · 07/04/2024 08:12

Varies sometimes i do sometimes no but when i was preg i had to go at least twice every niight

NoHeavenNoMore · 07/04/2024 08:15

I do but I think it's only because I've been woken up by my partners snoring 😒

SquashPenguin · 07/04/2024 08:15

I go about three or four times a night. Always have. I was so happy when we got an en-suite 😆

Vettrianofan · 07/04/2024 08:22

I actually saw a GP years ago to ask why I am needing to pee at night, querying if it's diabetes. Got blood tests - all came back normal🤷‍♀️

Mandarinaduck · 07/04/2024 08:22

Never ever got up in the night until menopause.

SallyWD · 07/04/2024 08:25

Yes most nights. Last night I didn't then was absolutely desperate at 7am!

Turtlegurl888 · 07/04/2024 08:27

Absolutely, I have at least once for as long as I can remember (definitely since a young teen at least), sometimes twice. My issue is I'm a light sleeper and if I even slightly could have a wee when I wake in the night there's no way I'm going back to sleep until I've been. I'm not waking up desperate for the toilet though.

TheNoodlesIncident · 07/04/2024 08:28

I've cut down to one cup of tea after dinner/post 6pm, if I have a second I will likely have to get up in the night. If I've had something salty at dinner I get very thirsty and have to drink more in the evening than I would usually and then know I'll be getting up for a wee. I still only have water, nothing carbonated or caffeinated.

You do get used to it and can make your way to the bathroom and back in a sort of trance but it's still tiring to have disturbed sleep, I really wouldn't like to be waking with a full bladder a few times a night.

zaffa · 07/04/2024 08:31

I do but I also drink a lot of water during the day and have a glass next to my bed.

Thefutureisourownpath · 07/04/2024 08:33

I wake up about 6/7 am at the latest and I let the dogs out and then I get a sudden uncontrollable urge to wee - and I can’t hold it st all. I do drink a lot of water

RabbitsRock · 07/04/2024 08:35

Once or twice since I started menopause but it’s not every night.

Vettrianofan · 07/04/2024 08:36

BeachBeerBbq · 07/04/2024 05:36

I don't unless I was drinking lots of alcohol. I normally go through like 3 litres of water a day, but number of beers on top beats even my bladder.
DH does and honestly, I was concerned at the beginning because I was simply not aware so many people wake up to pee every night without medical issue causing it😶

Top Trumps on how many litres of water one can drink in a day...

So far on this thread, 2L, now 3L....

Any manage 4L in a day?

Previousreligion · 07/04/2024 08:36

I never used to, but post-pregnancy and peri-menopausal, yes.
