Do you wake up to go toilet during the night?

Just wondering really.
My friend thinks I have a problem because I wake to go wee during the night. I've always done it. Not an age thing but I drink loads of water during the day
She reckons she never has the urge and can sleep for 12 hours
I also remember my ex never getting up to wee either
It's fine right? Please just tell me she has an iron bladder lol

Yes and always have done since I can remember.

Usually more than once. I'm not diabetic. Just a nuisance bladder.

Sladuf · 07/04/2024 03:09

I used to as a child and then I didn’t unless I’d been drinking more water than normal. A few years ago I was waking up needing to go all the time but put it down to the fact I was drinking more. It turned out I had undiagnosed diabetes.

sanityisamyth · 07/04/2024 03:09

I wake up at 2am every day but nothing to do with needing the loo. Very rarely need a wee during the night.

User373433 · 07/04/2024 03:13

I do, roughly every 4 hours. So usually it's once or twice, occasionally more. It's definitely worse when I have a lot of caffeine.

It's better than the alternative.

Yes, I thought that too!

Is the question focusing on needing to wee in the night or not, or is it accepted that you will need to and just asking whether you wake up to go or... just do it right where you are in slumbering content!

nothingsforgotten · 07/04/2024 04:16

I do once, sometimes twice, but I also drink a lot of water and have a glass just as I go to bed.

Frumpyfrau · 07/04/2024 04:21

Only when I was pregnant, and now if I drink lots of water after dinner.

Nat6999 · 07/04/2024 04:35

I go about 4 times a night, I've got an overactive bladder.

ouch321 · 07/04/2024 04:53

Yes. I never used to and then it suddenly changed. Now I do. If I've had too much to drink - not alcohol- up to 5 times but sometimes none at all. Very variable.

Wow as if!

What part is 'as if'?

Stickyricepudding · 07/04/2024 05:32

Most nights but mainly around 5/6pm so nearly time to wake up anyway. I have a tiny bladder & have always gone to the loo frequently during the day.

BeachBeerBbq · 07/04/2024 05:36

I don't unless I was drinking lots of alcohol. I normally go through like 3 litres of water a day, but number of beers on top beats even my bladder.
DH does and honestly, I was concerned at the beginning because I was simply not aware so many people wake up to pee every night without medical issue causing it😶

sashh · 07/04/2024 05:37

I get up once or twice every night.

moanyhole · 07/04/2024 05:57

My dog wakes me for our overnight wee, I have mine and then bring her out and she has hers, give her a treat and we both go back to bed.

MinnieMountain · 07/04/2024 06:28

Now I’m peri-menopausal I need a wee between 1-4am most nights.

My 10yo often goes around 5am.

AuntieMarys · 07/04/2024 07:05

At least twice...usually midnight and 3am

Noicant · 07/04/2024 07:08

Yup, usually once.

rainontherooftop · 07/04/2024 07:17

I do wake once or twice most nights - I've realised that if I don't drink tea after 6pm I'm less likely to get up. I assume it must be caffeine related but I like a cuppa in the evening 😬 maybe I'll try some caffeine free if I get round to it.

Sunnnybunny72 · 07/04/2024 07:20

Without fail. Not a big drinker either. Have done most of my life.
52.

greengreyblue · 07/04/2024 07:20

Yes I do most nights. I’m 53. Sometimes sleep through but I drink lots of water and have a cup of tea around 8/9pm. DH the same.

Iwant2beJessicaFletcher · 07/04/2024 07:22

Never, even when pregnant. DH doesn't either. I have a strong bladder though as I can easily go 6-7 hours at work not going to the loo once, even after having lunch.

AnnaMagnani · 07/04/2024 07:26

For all of you menopausal women getting up at night are you using vaginal oestrogen?

Absolute game changer, I went from getting up 2-3 times a night to not at all.

Even if you don't want to pursue HRT, vaginal oestrogen is great and stops you having endless UTIs as well.

HesterPrincess · 07/04/2024 07:26

I'm T2 diabetic and go at least 2 times during the night - always have. And my blood sugar are well controlled.

Spywoman · 07/04/2024 07:28

No not often. I have insomnia periodically but it's not that that makes me wake up.

I have had it in the past though but have worked on my pelvic floor by exercising more and doing a lot of pilates. I also did a 'holistic core restore' course which really helped.

Onelifeonly · 07/04/2024 07:33

I don't think I did when I was younger (under 50, say). But yes I often do. I avoid tea close to bedtime which helps. But I also often wake up briefly for no reason and sometimes go to the loo then if I don’t go straight back to sleep, even though I'm not bursting. However I've heard that the more you do this, the more you'll wake up to do it - which I think is true.
