Do you wake up to go toilet during the night?

Just wondering really.
My friend thinks I have a problem because I wake to go wee during the night. I've always done it. Not an age thing but I drink loads of water during the day
She reckons she never has the urge and can sleep for 12 hours
I also remember my ex never getting up to wee either
It's fine right? Please just tell me she has an iron bladder lol

2-3 times, always have at least once, more in the last decade maybe. Nothing wrong with me as far as I know, except permanent exhaustion.

BashfulClam · 07/04/2024 00:17

Very rarely.

changingchaali · 07/04/2024 00:18

Hi @Weenurse - no stimulants. I only drink water but have a cup of tea at work in the morning

Never.
I drink about 2L of water a day.

Wow as if!

Weenurse · 07/04/2024 00:19

Those of you getting up multiple times at night, keep a bit of a diary for 2-3 days looking at what goes in and when it comes out.
Excessive drinking 3-4 litres a day is not helpful unless under medical advice.
Some people over drink.
Also, a referral for urodynamics may provide some answers and medication may help.

FunnysInLaJardin · 07/04/2024 00:21

most nights I have a wee, usually around 4 am. Always have

DahliaMacNamara · 07/04/2024 00:26

I always have. At my age I don't always (ever?) sleep well, and I can't get back to sleep if I detect the tiniest drop in my bladder. A full bladder will wake me up at least once a night.

Kneeslikethese · 07/04/2024 00:29

Yes always once, sometimes twice a night. Always have.

CJ0374 · 07/04/2024 00:36

@Blythe1973 @bradpittsbathwater 'The need to go during the night can be related...... Not sure if you missed that it CAN be related to other health conditions and diseases. I never said everyone who gets up every night does indeed have a medical issue!
I keep a water bottle at work and over the day drink 2L. I never get up during the night. The bladder should stretch to accommodate the urine. Its not a solid box which only comes in small, med, large. Everyone is different though, but health conditions can certainly cause issues.

@Blythe1973

ehst are you doubting?

the 2 litres of water or nit getting up in the night?

I drink at least 2 litres of water a day and only get up at night when I'm not controlling my diabetes well enough.

mrsfollowill · 07/04/2024 00:40

Always- go to bed at 12.30 most nights- up at 7 am so around 4am. I can do it mostly still asleep- totter the bathroom next to bedroom go and back in bed and instantly back asleep. I've only done this since having DS though (he's 22!) Before that I'd go all night and sleep through, I can sleep 12 hours at a time if if I get the chance but would have to go half way through these days.

Disturbia81 · 07/04/2024 00:42

Why does menopause affect it? Is it because sleep can be more broken so you realise you need to go?
I never need to but did when pregnant, a lot!

BettyShagter · 07/04/2024 00:42

TitusMoan · 07/04/2024 00:10

Can I ask, do you think it was directly related to sugar intake in the day?

No, for full disclosure I'd just been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid and during the time they were trying to get my dosage right, my bloods came back as pre-diabetic twice.

I didn't actually change anything about my diet as the GP didn't think I'd need to, and she was right because the thyroid meds sorted it in the end.

slippedonabanana · 07/04/2024 00:44

No, not happening to me yet.

Louise295 · 07/04/2024 00:46

I'm 33. Get up at night at least once for a wee. Have to go all the time during the day too.

DramaAlpaca · 07/04/2024 00:47

Yes. Usually twice. Always have and it doesn't bother me (much).

Theoldwoman · 07/04/2024 00:47

I never get up despite having a cup of tea and large glass of water in bed before sleeping.

herourne · 07/04/2024 00:58

No, I never get up unless I've drunk a lot of liquid just before bed, which is rare. DH tends to get up once in the night.

Wednesdaysotherchild · 07/04/2024 01:08

Yes, about once a night. I’ve done it since childhood (7,8,9) and I drink a lot of tea/water. Last cup of green tea around 11pm, sleep by 1am ish. Wake around 4-6 to wee. I think it’s normal!

MuggedByReality · 07/04/2024 01:10

Yes, most nights. But I do drink a lot of tea so it’s not surprising or concerning.

RoyKentwhistle · 07/04/2024 01:12

Since my periods stopped once per night it's so annoying

elliejjtiny · 07/04/2024 01:36

Not normally but the week before my period I have to go twice every night. Very annoying and also weird.

vodkaredbullgirl · 07/04/2024 01:46

I work nights and menopausal, my whole body is fucked up lol.

abracadabra1980 · 07/04/2024 02:00

Every single night ranging from once to 3/4 times. I have an overactive bladder though. Utter pita.
