lol!!!! Chinese is the worst! Boiled rice!

Spendonsend · 06/04/2024 17:24

The soups?

Maybe stir fry veg and something like blackbean beef.

What sort of diet are you doing - calorie counting or low carb

Or are are you just meaning healthier in terms of veg and sauces.

Cracklymarckly · 06/04/2024 17:27

High protein plus calories counting

All of that is really calorific. Low carb and calorie counting are both based on calorie deficit.

OP could you consider another take away? With grilled chicken or fish? Indian Salmon/Chicken Tikka. Or Kebab - chicken shish? Peri Peri Chicken?

purplehue · 06/04/2024 17:29

Half portion of something like beef and black bean. With boiled not fried rice.

No prawn crackers or anything deep fried.

Nothing too sugary like sweet and sour. No battered food.

Cracklymarckly · 06/04/2024 17:29

I have been out voted on the choice of takeaway.. Chinese being my least favourite

Egg foo yung?

Uncooperativefingers · 06/04/2024 17:32

How is duck for duck pancakes usually prepared? I assume something like that would be your best bet as I imagine the sauces in Chinese takeaway food will be very carb heavy (sugar).

Spendonsend · 06/04/2024 17:36

I dont think soup is calorific.

I think the battered things in sweet sauces will be less healthy than veg or meat in a lighter sauces.

Any prawn dishes in a light sauce?

Bjorkdidit · 06/04/2024 17:36

Prawn foo yung? Basically Prawns, eggs and veg.

Or something else with Prawns or chicken, without a sweet sauce because not everything has it.

Astariel · 06/04/2024 17:37

Get some rice and a vegetable dish. Some kind of pak choi and Chinese mushrooms type affair would be good. Maybe chicken and sweetcorn soup.

if wherever you go has proper Chinese food, smacked cucumber is always a good idea.

DGPP · 06/04/2024 17:37

Beef in black bean, side of veg, no rice

Cracklymarckly · 06/04/2024 17:47

Went with beef and broccoli

Thanks!

For next time - chicken with bamboo shoots and water chestnuts is pretty good.

newtb · 06/04/2024 17:53

Have beansprouts instead of rice.

WhatFlavourIsIt · 06/04/2024 17:57

I think if you're getting a Chinese you just have to say fuck it. Get what you fancy and eat better on the other days

legalseagull · 06/04/2024 18:01

Just get what you want, enjoy it, and start again tomorrow!

FrancisSeaton · 06/04/2024 21:27

People as always are very odd when it comes to any food thread. Someone just asserted soup and beef and black bean sauce is very 'calorific' when in fact it's an excellent nutritional choice and well balanced. Chinese people eat a wide variety of foods some deep fried and some very lean and healthy- just like all cuisines

MyMcMuffin · 06/04/2024 21:33

I sometimes get the soup, and then dry ribs. Sometimes with vegetables in black bean sauce.
no it’s not the lowest calorie choices but I enjoy it and I just try to chose the slightly lower carb/higher protein options. It’s all probably got too much salt/fat/sugar/msg etc so I don’t think it makes that much difference.

ultimately my advice is choose your top favourite thing and enjoy it.

Of course they do but that’s not what a Chinese takeaway supplies. That’s like saying a tikka masala is an authentic Indian dish. The soup if empty calories full of MSG and black bean is full of fats, MSG and sugar. It’s not the same as when we make it at home. Chinese people, in china, would not eat the stuff we order from the takeaways often at all.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 07/04/2024 08:30

Oh give over: it's very different from the likes of battered chicken balls in sweet and sour sauce.

Astariel · 07/04/2024 12:39

Chinese takeaway supply a range of different dishes. They’re not a homogenous mass, nor are the menus of even the most ‘standard’ British Chinese takeaways all beige, fried foods.

For example, I could order the attached from one of my local takeaways - along with some rice. It’s not compulsory to order a munch box of beige.

Ribs
Beef in blackbean sauce
Won ton soup
Crispy duck
Stir fry veg & chicken/prawns/tofu

And a small portion of Singapore noodles!
