MN stalker, bot, follower???

CJ0374 · 05/04/2024 12:23

NC due to the nature of my query. The past 2 weeks I've noticed the same person 'liking' my MN posts. They often haven't added any comments to the thread, but simply liked my comment. These are not threads I've started, so assume they have just searched for any topic I have added a comment to. Nothing threatening, just feels a bit odd! Anyone else had this, could it be a bot somehow, or just someone very interesting in my mundane comments?

(I randomly like/thank posts)

You cant see any other posts that have been thanked - so you probably have someone who is similar to you in thoughts

TraitorsGate · 05/04/2024 12:24

Report to mnhq to look into,

It's been around for a few months now but it's not a 'like' button, it's a 'thanks' button which equates to the same thing, except only the author of the post can see it.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 05/04/2024 12:27

I didn't know you could see who had thanked you! I 'thank' posts without noticing who the poster is - just to indicate that I like the post or to offer a tiny gesture of support. Now I'm paranoid that I have accidentaly thanked the same poster enough times to look like a stalker!Shock

Penguinsa · 05/04/2024 12:28

The username that appears on the thanks button is just who they are logged on as at the time and they may have a different username on a thread. The who thanked by also seems to change presumably when they log on with a different username.

When you click on the thanks it tells you I think. I sometimes get emails that someone has tanked me but it's too much of a faff to find the post that I dont usually bother to look

You have done some research into this 😁

Seems odd that the name would change, that's a pretty big flaw in the anonymity of name changing

GoodOldEmmaNess · 05/04/2024 12:32

Aha! You live and learn. That actually helps the button make a lot more sense.

Me neither 🙈

Redglitter · 05/04/2024 12:35

I had no idea you could see who'd thanked you. Every days a school day

Penguinsa · 05/04/2024 12:36

😁Shopping Get bored sometimes.

I think its a pretty big flaw though as you can work out people's other usernames. I noticed initially as I was thanked all the time by one name not on the thread so I advanced searched and was obvious who they were and they were on thread under a different name.

So did the posters name on the thanks button change or do you mean you were able to work it out?

RoderickHosclassicblackhoodie · 05/04/2024 12:39

If it was me I apologise, it was just coincidence that the posts I thanked were all yours.

Theimpossiblegirl · 05/04/2024 12:39

Ah, I was aware of the thank button but it's not on the app.

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 05/04/2024 12:40

Can't see on the App how to do this?

Isn't it kind of intuitively obvious that if you click on the button when theres a number you'd be able to see who it was?

No one told me, I just "knew"

What on earth for? What are they going to do about someone 'liking' posts?

Clearly not.

It's not on the app, though I mostly use the app and get emails to my phone telling me who thanked me

shoppingshamed · 05/04/2024 12:47

Redglitter · 05/04/2024 12:42

I guess I was assuming that posters use other social media sites that all have the same format for clicking on likes and comments and it was an internet standard but you're right not everyone does

I don't know why it never occurred to me. Maybe because I'm not as interested in who's liked my post on here compared to a FB post. Least i know now 😁

Penguinsa · 05/04/2024 12:51

Shopping The posters name on the thanks button changed at different times. So first time click to see who thanked a name not on thread then when click same thanks later (very bored here) a different username again. Presumably one person with at least 3 usernames / name changes.

BobnLen · 05/04/2024 12:52

Some people probably just thank a lot of people, maybe they are used to liking on Facebook or you can also mark the DM comments up or down, I wouldn't really worry about it,

I agree, anonymous likes aren't the same as people you actually know unless like the OP you think you might have a stalker maybe
