You're coming to my house for dinner. What do you want to eat?

There will be plenty of booze and it won't be fancy. I'll have about an hour to cook and bugger all time before to prepare in advance. Oh and you're family so I don't have to 'impress', but I want it to be lovely too!

If we are friends, don't worry - put the wine in the fridge, sit down and relax for an hour and I'll pick up a large bag of crisps and a pizza and more wine on my way over.

Or, buy a good quality quiche, heat it up. Boil some new potatoes. Slice some crusty bread. Get the butter out. Chuck a salad together and then have meringues, ice cream and a mixture of berries on standby for pudding. They are coming to see you - you're not running a restaurant.

Can you knock me up a full english breakfast please? Its my most fave thing and I could eat it forever!

SnacksToTheMax · 03/04/2024 21:29

Fajitas please! It’s one of my go-tos for feeding lots of people. Celebratory, quick, easy to add lots of extra bits to bulk it out (I make fresh guacamole and it’s awesome).

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 03/04/2024 21:30

Chicken tartiflette please, easy and so tasty.

IncompleteSenten · 03/04/2024 21:30

Stuffed crust pizza.
And garlic bread.

All the carbs. All of them!!

CheshireCat1 · 03/04/2024 21:32

Sausages, mash, peas and onion gravy please, treacle sponge and custard for pudding. Do you want me to bring anything ?

PrincessHoneysuckle · 03/04/2024 21:33

Tuna pasta bake with garlic bread and salad

TwistedSisters · 03/04/2024 21:37

If steak is out, then Fajitas.
Or pulled pork in brioche buns.
Or roast chicken with potato salad.
Or a charcuterie and cheese board with crusty bread and salad.

mewkins · 03/04/2024 21:38

A chili prawn tagliatelle, rocket salad and some garlic and rosemary bread or foccacia

PoochiesPinkEars · 03/04/2024 21:42

I love jackets! Plain with just butter, or toppings don't mind. Love'em

WandaWonder · 03/04/2024 21:43

Lasagne, basically something no one has to think about so simple!

semideponent · 03/04/2024 21:45

Something cooked long and slow. Maybe Persian. Garlicky cucumbery yogurt on the side.

TitaniasAss · 03/04/2024 21:45

Well you all have to bring wine you know and I think I have a crusty old bottle of port underneath the sink in the utility room if we get desperate.

ButtockUp · 03/04/2024 21:52

A really nice quiche, salad an a jacket potato.

Dreamstosell · 03/04/2024 21:58

Veggie lasagne and salad would be good. Maybe some garlic bread. And I’ll definitely have some of your sister’s pudding please

LondonFox · 03/04/2024 21:58

Tbh I don't like big sit down meal if we are havinv an evening to drink and talk/have fun.
If your friends are like that you can get some type of "no commitment" meal.
Pizza
Nachos platter
Italian inspired platter etc.
Obviously some people can get pissed if food is "just nibbles" but it works well if it is cocktail type event

Seeingadistance · 03/04/2024 22:01

I'll eat whatever you give me, and be most grateful!

Maddy70 · 03/04/2024 22:06

Lasagne with crispy skin jacket potatoes

Starfish78 · 03/04/2024 22:13

I would love a roasted or rotisserie chicken with lovely crunchy bread, salad, coleslaw, potato salad, cheese etc please

DSD9472 · 03/04/2024 22:14

I eat anything, no allergies, pickiness etc- so would be happy to come along 😀

For a group, you could do fajitas as others have said and everyone serves themselves from the table. Wraps, grated cheese, salsa, salady bits, refried beans, chicken/beef/prawn and or veggie in the middle.

Do you have any time a day beforehand to prep? Twice over easter we've had Greek marinated leg of lamb. Debone the leg, and leave overnight in a mix of a whole chopped garlic bulb, olive oil, 2x lemon rind and juice, pepper, oregano/thyme. Cook 45min-1hr in oven or on the BBQ. Serve with wraps, salads, homous and garlic sauce. Cous cous and savoury rice optional. Like a very tasty, posh kebab!
I found these wraps at aldi last week and they are amazing, much better than regular burrito type wraps.

Pad thai please

Cuwins · 03/04/2024 22:23

Lasagne and garlic bread. Something I love and rarely get because 1. DD has a dairy allergy and 2. I'm too lazy to make it
