Was your gut instinct in pregnancy about whether you were having a boy or a girl correct?

Just interested.

Keep having dreams of one gender - not sure if it means anything!

We’d be happy with either.

Not really, I thought I was having a boy but I was having a girl

Tbf there's a 50/50 chance you could be right so more than likely it's a fluke

Cattenberg · 03/04/2024 20:27

I didn’t know which I was having, but I had a clear mental image of a little boy with dark hair who liked football and was obsessed with dinosaurs.

I had a girl.

Busby88 · 03/04/2024 20:28

1st I knew was a boy from the minute I found out I was pregnant. Don’t ask me how, I just knew.

Second I had no idea, no inkling. Would have guessed a girl based on old wive’s tale but no gut feel. Was a boy.

1 out of the 3 I was correct. DD I thought was a boy, DS1 I knew was a boy and DS2 I was utterly convinced was a girl, my jaw dropped when blue confetti came out at the gender reveal!

Nejnej · 03/04/2024 20:29

Yup, felt weirdly certain at 5 weeks and was correct!

AhBiscuits · 03/04/2024 20:32

I had a strong feeling I was having a boy first time and was wrong.

oneuponedown · 03/04/2024 20:32

Yes and also had dream which was correct.

superplumb · 03/04/2024 20:32

My 1st yes. I had a very strong sense he was a he very early on.
With my second I was wrong. My cravings, sickness way I carried all suggested a girl ( if you believe all that) but another boy.

Malarandras · 03/04/2024 20:33

Nope. I had no clue whatsoever!

SirenSays · 03/04/2024 20:33

Gut instinct was right every time.

VeryBusyDoingNothing · 03/04/2024 20:35

Yes I was right every time and I have three very wonderful children 😀

ladygindiva · 03/04/2024 20:35

First one was utterly convinced was a boy, was wrong. Second one , twins , was convinced were b/g, was wrong again.

VeryBusyDoingNothing · 03/04/2024 20:35

BTW with my boys I was nauseous for sure. With my girl, sweet jesus so so ill 🤢🤢🤢 so that was also an old wives tale correct for me

GreenCereal · 03/04/2024 20:37

Yes, I was right all 3 times. I never said it out loud, because I didn't want it to sound like wishful thinking, but I knew early on what each one was.

ILovePinkBubbles · 03/04/2024 20:42

Yes and I was right!

supercalafragilisticexpealidocious · 03/04/2024 20:49

Yes with the first and no with the second.

Ankylo · 03/04/2024 20:51

We were wrong. Most people we know thought we'd have a girl, so did we. I even had a dream of a baby girl. We had no preference as he's our first (always thought one of each would be nice so didn't mind!), it was just gut instinct. We were so surprised when we were told at 20 week scan that he was a boy!

MargaretThursday · 03/04/2024 20:58

Only one of mine did I have any feelings either way and I was wrong.

But I did an interesting survey, online with around 1k responders.

I found, as you'd expect, asking people before they knew were around 50% right (I think it was about 52/48, can't remember which way round)

Asking afterwards, I asked two questions. If they'd thought they knew, were they right, and how certain (extremely/very/slightly) they were.
What I found was that people who were "extremely" were about 60% wrong. People who were "slightly" were about 90% right.

On the basis that both should (from the other survey) have been around 50% then I reached the conclusion, that if people were only "slightly", they either forgot or discounted the feeling if they were wrong.
And people were slightly more likely to remember how certain they were if they were wrong.

It was interesting.

Barleycat · 03/04/2024 21:04

Yes, was sure he was a boy from about 7 weeks. Had a bleed at 18 weeks and they said he was a girl, I said check again as knew he was a boy. DS2 I thought he was a boy but didn't know in the same way iykwim

mammaCh · 03/04/2024 21:04

Yes! I was right with all 3 of my kids!

MariaLuna · 03/04/2024 21:07

Yes.

I even dreamt about him and at two years old he looked just like in my dream.

QueSyrahSyrah · 03/04/2024 21:09

31 weeks and have no idea! We mix and match whether we say him or her or 'the baby' or on occasion 'the wombat'.

Crowgirl · 03/04/2024 21:09

Didn't guess first time and read so much about errors I didn't entirely believe the scan

Felt like I just knew the second time
Weirdly strangers used to come up to me and guess correctly as well so often too. It was really bizarre how often it happened.

To add, we worked through an online list of 30 old wives tales the other week. Came out as a 15/15 split Grin

Fookintired · 03/04/2024 21:12

When I was younger I always said I'd have a girl and two boys. Not sure why I said this mind. I do have a girl and two boys. My first child I lost early on but always felt would have been a boy.
