HummingbirdChandelier · 02/04/2024 23:00

Let my kids watch TV

Renamed · 02/04/2024 23:01

Central heating. We had 1 gas fire downstairs (preceded by a coal fire) and small plug in heaters in the bedrooms, which were expensive to run, so mostly weren’t on.

Remaker · 02/04/2024 23:02

Hug my kids and tell them I love them
Put effort into cooking nice meals that kids will enjoy
Play music

Notellinganyone · 02/04/2024 23:04

God yes. Grew up with no central heating and no pt much hot water. Now have heating in all the time and have a v hit bath most days. Also never bought my kids second hand clothes.

Upwiththelark76 · 02/04/2024 23:07

Putting the heating on

WeightoftheWorld · 02/04/2024 23:08

Drink alcohol.
Allow people to eat food in the house that we don't eat for ethical/religious/personal reasons.
Go to the bathroom/shower/bath with the door open/unlocked. (Obviously only if it's only immediate family here!)
Get dressed with the door open. (Same caveat as above!).
Occasionally snack in our bedroom.
Allow tradespeople/professionals to come into the house without taking their shoes off or wearing shoe covers.
Watch the telly in the bedroom occasionally. Well, even have a telly in a bedroom.
Use dehumidifiers.
Sometimes lock our bedroom door (from the outside).

peloton2024 · 02/04/2024 23:09

Have a cat
Clean regularly

Nepenthe · 02/04/2024 23:09

Central heating here too.
Also celebrating Christmas and birthdays
Cook with fresh food
Shower / bathe more than once a week

NahNeedsGarlic · 02/04/2024 23:10

Sit or lie on the floor reading or playing board games.

Shufflebumnessie · 02/04/2024 23:11

Listen to my children and not immediately dismiss everything they say/feel just because they're children!

TheBottomsOfMyTrousersAreRolled · 02/04/2024 23:12

Drink alcohol.

Twolittleloves · 02/04/2024 23:13

Throw things away 😅 My dad was a 'tidy hoarder' my mum is very eco-conscious and wastes NOTHING

olderbutwiser · 02/04/2024 23:14

Be parents who love each other and show it.

Goawayquickly · 02/04/2024 23:16

Not allow smoking in the house. If you smoke, by all means smoke in the garden but not in my home.

As a child that constant fug and sore eyes was so disgusting really

Youdontknowmedoyou · 02/04/2024 23:17

Have a drink elsewhere other than the kitchen which is still not allowed at their house.
Play music, eat at any time.
Free access to everything for everyone at any time. No bedtimes ever, no TV restrictions, no internet restrictions.
Using the tumble dryer whenever I want to.
Advice is given and taken by everyone no matter their age here. In parents house they rule.

PermanentTemporary · 02/04/2024 23:19

Lie in. 'One of your lie-ins' my mum used to say, as though I'd invented the idea of staying in bed past 7 in the morning.

Headstarttohappiness · 02/04/2024 23:19

Apologise when we get it wrong.

Mrbumpssmile · 02/04/2024 23:20

It's all very similar, similar house, same area, except we take shoes off in my home and we didn't in my childhood homes!

Also, I have a shower fitting on the bath. We only had one of those rubber attachment ones in my childhood. And I have radiators! Didn't have those.

unsync · 02/04/2024 23:25

Eat in front of the telly.

If I CBA to tidy up the kitchen, I will just shut the door and walk away.

Throw stuff away that has expired. I went through Mother's spices after she died, there was stuff in there that was pre decimalisation - it was older than me.

Get things repaired or replaced when they break or no longer do what they ought to.

OldMrsHempstock · 02/04/2024 23:29

Mild, non-aggressive swearing is ok.

Smoking isn't.

Toilet humour is allowed - even at the dinner table (to my dad's disgust!)

Meals are nearly always cooked from scratch.

We only eat at the table (except popcorn etc if we're watching a film together)

TV is only on if someone wants to watch something, never just in the background.

No shoes indoors.

dizzydizzydizzy · 02/04/2024 23:36

Sometimes leave the washing up til morning. This would have been the ultimate sin in my childhood home.

Ariela · 02/04/2024 23:41

Feet on the sofa!

Catsmere · 02/04/2024 23:49

Eat my breakfast on (not in) bed, and loll around on the bed reading my iPad (they weren't invented in my childhood).

Swear. No swearing at home, now since my last job in a very sweary workplace I drop the F bomb all the time when I'm alone.

Medicate my cats. Grew up with cats, but even regular vet visits weren't a thing in the 60s in my family (they were once my father buggered off ... hmmm). Now I have two cats, one with high blood pressure, the other with megacolon, so daily meds and a small fortune in fees and prescriptions are the norm!

JustForWomen · 02/04/2024 23:52

Put on the heating

Tiggles · 02/04/2024 23:53

The kids are allowed in the living room. We were only allowed in on Christmas Day.
We have a TV
We have a car
