Does anyone just not carry one?
If you do, what's in it?

I used to carry all sorts in mine but then started to work in a place we had bag searches and it just became a hassle. So no I just leave the house with my phone and keys.
Cards are in a pocket on the back of my phone for back up.
Lip balm is on my work lanyard
Any meds for ibs, paracetamol etc I have a stash at work, a stash in the car, and a mini pill holder/sorter that lives in my jacket pocket. (In summer I just use the ones at work) I also have a spare brush in my car, and one in the draw at work. Ditto chargers, car and work.
That's it. That's all I need on the day to day.

That said, I dont go out much. As you can guess I commute to work and work 6 days. When I am out for the night I wouldn't take a bag anyway. I also don't wear makeup so theres that!

What's in yours?

Stopped using one about 4 years ago.

Have phone and lip balm. Nothing else. Can’t imagine hoiking one round now.

RoseofMiltonKeynes · 01/04/2024 17:32

I've never used one because I fear people would laugh at me, like a child dressing up. I just carry cards in my pocket and key on a lanyard.

Precipice · 01/04/2024 17:32

I don't have any typical handbag.

When I go to the office, I have a rucksack, since I often have my work laptop, books. I take the rucksack shopping too.

When I'm on a day out, I have what I think is called a canvas tote bag? But a bit more spacious than the ones you often get free at events. But that's because I like to have a book to read and a water bottle.

If I'm just going out to meet someone or for a walk, I don't take a bag. I put my wallet in my trouser pockets, or coat pocket if it's a coat with bigger pockets.

It depends. On work days I have one which has my phone, keys, wallet, kindle, tissues, plaster, nasal spray.
I have a small phone bag which also holds keys and a small wallet with some cash and my ID card, ideal for holiday.

I find it difficult to have phone etc with me when I don't wear a coat/jacket.

If I just go shopping, no bag.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 01/04/2024 17:35

I used to, years ago, when I needed to carry a spare nappy, wipes, plasters, dummy, cigarettes, lighter, keys, phone, purse.

Now my kids are older and I've quit smoking it's just keys, phone and sometimes a bank card.

If I need a bag I'm more likely to grab a small rucksack than a handbag.

The only time I take a hand bag is if getting dressed up for a night out.

Sunquest · 01/04/2024 17:37

Purse, phone, painkillers, fold up shopping bag, House keys and work keys and fob. Sometimes a water bottle. Oh and a mini umbrella if it looks like rain. I do like a biggish bag though that I can shove anything in.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 01/04/2024 17:42

One of my passions is handbags so I'll never be without one but they have got smaller over the years and they're not full of crap like they used to he.

Currently mine has a comb, purse, sunglasses, lip balm, pen, house keys and work keys. When I go out it will also have ozone, fags and lighter and reading glasses.

GigiAnnna · 01/04/2024 17:42

Purse, phone, keys, lip gloss, mirror, painkillers, sanitary towels, random kid crap.

mynameiscalypso · 01/04/2024 17:44

DS is 4.5 and my bag is usually still full of toddler snacks 'just in case'

EnchantedElf · 01/04/2024 17:46

I stopped carrying a handbag when I realised I was carrying the whole family’s wallets, sunglasses, random shit you can’t leave the house with. Now I’ve got contactless I just take my phone and my car keys.

gingercat02 · 01/04/2024 17:46

Normal day bag. Purse, phone, small make-up bag (lippy mascara concealer) key/car keys
Work bag. Above plus hand sanitiser, post it's, pen, id badge and lanyard, painkillers, chewing gum, coffee sachets
Night out. phone, cards, emergency cash, key

Citrusandginger · 01/04/2024 17:48

Rarely. I seem to need either a sack or a pocket.

I have a work bag and pack a longchamp tote if we are out for the day with tissues, hand gel, paracetamol, jumpers & all the other paraphernalia.

Shopping is now phone and glasses. I have a pouch thing to wear if I've got no pockets.

SpiltCoffee · 01/04/2024 17:48

Interesting.
I guess I am lucky I can throw stuff in the (shared office) drawer at work. And looking at your lists I guess I also use my car as a handbag 🤣 I keep a mini umbrella in there but rarely use it as I usually just throw my hood up.
Thinking about it, I do have a canvas tote I use when I on the odd occasion catch the train for a day trip, just for a water bottle and a snack. But when using the train for work events I just have phone and keys. And yes work keys are on a lanyard. I am also lucky enough to have parking behind work so am literally a minute or two away from the car if it throws it down at closing time.

To add, I would prefer a back pack over a bag tbh. But again, we are lucky enough to have all work systems on our phone so dont need to carry a laptop - computer at work and laptop at home all have access needed. Everything I need to access when out for events and meetings I can see on my phone.

I love a handbag and lug lots of stuff around:

card holder
car keys
door keys
pen
make up compact
lip gloss
lipstick
tissues
headphones
notepad/diary
mini perfume
comb
hair clip
sunglasses
reading glasses
spare contacts and eye drops

PegasusReturns · 01/04/2024 17:54

Oh and:
two phones
work pass

SpiltCoffee · 01/04/2024 17:55

Being in a place where we get searched is amusing.. over time the new people start with all sorts in their bags. Tissues, meds, everything but the kitchen sink. The longer they are there, the more they realise what we already have at work to use (we have a whole ass pharmacy at this point!) And it's just topped up as needed. Plus work provide free san pro, sanitiser etc and their bags get smaller and smaller. Once people have been there about a year they are fully converted to just a phone and keys! You can always tell how long someone has worked for us by what they carry in to their shift!

I don't take a handbag to work - I have a backpack which fits a lot of stuff in it, including my laptop. I always take a handbag if I'm going into town or oit somewhere in the day at the weekend or on holiday.

Sunquest · 01/04/2024 17:59

Oh there's more. Sunglasses and weekly bus pass, lanyard and work ID.

Leafbuds · 01/04/2024 17:59

I'm trying to slim down my handbag as much as possible as I've just bought a new much smaller one. I mostly walk places though so can't use the car as an extra!

I have wallet, phone, house keys, car keys, mini umbrella, sunglasses, eye drops, lipstick, concealer, lip balm, comb, hair tie, plasters, blister plasters, various painkiller tablets, pen, tissues, shopping bags, mini water bottle, gum. It's hard to get it much smaller than that! I don't use it all very often, but I would never remember to change handbags every day and sort out what I need or not, so better to have it all.

I wish the fobs for car keys were smaller, and I also have fobs for my building and my garage that take up space. I seem to endlessly need tissues as well, and very often random blisters, so those are essential. I should probably try to get rid of some of the other stuff

mondaytosunday · 01/04/2024 18:00

At most I carry a small cross body bag, and that's only if I don't have pockets or need to bring my insulin. In it is just that and maybe a compact and sweeteners. I don't have a wallet anymore either.

user1471523870 · 01/04/2024 18:00

The content and size of my bag varies, but 90% of the time I have a small crossbody with purse, phone, airpods, lipbalm, tissues, sanitizer, sunglasses and keys.

Elebag · 01/04/2024 18:02

The uniqlo cross body bag. I walk almost everywhere.

Purse
Keys
Small water bottle
Small umbrella
Tissues
Lip balm
Spare contacts
Flapjack snack
Hair bands
Alcohol wipe
Hand sanitizer
Phone
Reusable shopping bag
Ear buds
Face mask
Couple of plasters

alphabettispagetti · 01/04/2024 18:02

I used to have one with all sorts of kids paraphenalia in it pre-Covid. During Covid, I stopped using one as all I needed was my keys & phone. Then I started wearing glasses for reading and am at the stage where I really do need them so am back to using a handbag.

Roundaboot · 01/04/2024 18:08

I really try to keep my handbag to a minimum but I'm not the kind of person who travels light!
I always have keys, purse, card wallet, personal phone, work phone, phone cable and plug (and battery pack if I'm going out for the day), cheap reading glasses, a pouch with plasters, pain killers, antihistamines, tampons and towels, hand sanitizer, hair ties, nail file and tweezers. And a mini dental floss. Also at least one lip balm plus Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream, hand cream, at least one but usually about 3 lip sticks/glosses, perfume, small mirror, a couple of hankies, gum and/or mints and a snack (cereal bar type thing) for emergencies, Sharpie and a biro. A fold up shopping bag. Airpods. A card case for travel tickets.
Depending on weather there will also be sun glasses, sun cream and an umbrella.
When I go to the office, I'll also have a laptop bag.
