What’s your unpopular opinion?

Weddings. I’m just not a fan. I’m delighted when friends get married but generally find the day long and boring. Yes, I’ve been to some absolutely beautiful weddings and had a lovely time but generally speaking, I’d prefer to be doing something else.

That’s my unpopular opinion!

It must suck to be an only child

I'm 60. It does. It really does.

Craftyy · 30/03/2024 21:38

My unpopular opinions -

I believe the uk should keep it's borders open for refugees, especially if they are fleeing a country that we've been involved in invading, or providing arms to facilitate invasion (or civil war).

I don't care about benefit fraudsters - the number of benefit fraudsters is comparatively low, and tax loopholes for the super rich should be addressed first.

Adhd is a neurological difference that is not caused or affected by lazy parenting.

Mumsnetters as a collective are intolerant of disabled people.

The moderation policy allows disablism to stand in the vast majority of posts that i see. Let's see if they delete the instances I've reported on this thread.

Hardly any of these are unpopular opinions. They're just a bunch of Mumsnetters outting themselves as disablist and racist and pretending that they're edgy.

Absolutely.

Private schools are better than state
Nobody over a size 12 should wear a crop top

I think the quality of education is often better in state tbh. I think you're paying for something other than the educational standards.

Red and ginger hair is absolutely beautiful.
Ginger hair jokes are not funny.

They took advantage years ago already sadly.

Oh no. There's worse out there and the Tories are their mates

Free market economics is a terrifying prospect.

I don't think people should be made to give up their social housing homes (except for things like non payment of rent, anti social behaviour etc). Certainly not made to move because they have a spare bedroom etc.

Instead money should be focused on much much more social housing.

I could go really far and say I also disagree with second homes. I think it's greedy and pushes up house prices so that more people rely on renting when they could get on the property ladder (pr rent social housing if they prefer).

Agree 💯

PutASpellOnYou · 30/03/2024 21:42

Marrying a wealthy man has never entered my mind, l thought that was the mindset of the Jane Austin era.
Personally I would much rather hunt in the wild, than eat in captivity. I live on my own and happily support myself, l have a freedom many never get to taste, l have a modest home but better that than a pretty prison.

NotCute · 30/03/2024 21:42

Politics is a pantomime.
There is no choice, just the illusion of it.
No matter who we vote for its never in our best interests and that is entirely intentional.
Politicians are merely actors on the world stage and we can't discuss who pulls the strings because of the blatant obfuscation of the facts surrounding this.

You should have to pass a stringent test to own a dog. You should have to pass a homecheck and pass a test on the breed you want.

You should have to sign up for 18 months training.

Breeding should be tightly regulated. Owning an animal is a privilege not a right. It should be expensive and hard. All non breeding animals should be neutered.

They'd be no more need for rescues.

Yes yes YES!

LumpyKat · 30/03/2024 21:46

Agree about adele
ant and dec are massively over rated, not funny at all
holidays are stressful and not worth the money or effort
organised religions are cults

Laalaland · 30/03/2024 21:46

It's cruel to have house cats.

The more people get diagnosed as autistic and ADHD the better....because then education and work environments will have no option but to start making them more accessible for everyone.

bakewellbride · 30/03/2024 21:46

Unless there is a medical reason, no one should be buying anything that's been tested on animals. It's so cruel and needless.

No-one needs to consume dairy and it's not necessary 'for strong bones'. Again, needless animal cruelty.

Breastfeeding is better than formula feeding.

More people should give blood. It is appalling that 96% of people who are able to in this country don't bother.

Mamananny · 30/03/2024 21:32

But I'm sure you'll find a way to brand someone that's had mostly gay relationships as a homophobic bigot 😑

I don't think you're homophobic but I do think you are privileged.

You have the ability it seems to go back in the closet. Many of us don't.

Russia just declared the LGBT a terrorist group.

I won't ever let any person or movement put me back in the closet. Way too much homophobia in the world still.

Too many people still dying because they are gay.

TedMullins · 30/03/2024 21:48

People who complain that care homes and childcare are too expensive and that 100k is peanuts are mostly hypocrites - subsidising those services would mean higher taxation which they also disagree with (I am pro high tax and subsidised public services)

Under the system we have, it is absolutely fair that you should pay for your own elderly care if you’re able (by selling your house if you have to). no one is entitled to an inheritance - if we had a trustworthy government who spent public money properly then I’d be in favour of 100% inheritance tax.

I’m glad I’m an only child - I’d have hated a sibling.

Family is just some people you happen to share genetics with. It only matters if you actually like each other as people.

Laalaland · 30/03/2024 21:49

I'm not appreciative of soldiers because if no one in the world would be willing to be a soldier then we wouldn't have war.

Gowlett · 30/03/2024 21:51

The classic crisp white shirt is totally not chic.
It only works on about 1% of the population.
Everyone else looks like a waitress, if worn with black.

Privileged because I chose not to talk about my sexuality openly? How on earth is that privileged? All I do is not wear a rainbow badge or introduce myself as bisexual.

The whole Rainbow movement is embarrassing to the vast majority of gay people, who just want to live their lives quietly, in peace, like I do.

janicegarvey · 30/03/2024 21:53

Changingplace · 30/03/2024 20:41

There’s no need for kids to have constant snacks, the concept has been created by marketing/consumerism.

Agree and most kids I know who are allowed constant snacks are fat. There's no need

I also think if kids are fat it should be as much of a red flag safeguarding concern as if they were undernourished/ underweight

Mamananny · 30/03/2024 21:55

I would say the LGBTQ+ movement does have terrorist traits.

The way it demands things. Threatens people to be kidn and inclusive or else. Cancel culture. The way they try to infiltrate children. Push gender identity on children.

It's got nothing to do with the majority of gay people who are minding their own business.

Its militant and dangerous.

Churchview · 30/03/2024 21:56

The giving of presents is rubbish. It makes people spend money they don't have buying stuff that people don't want or need.

All those stocking fillers, secret Santa gifts and red Valentine's teddies are a waste of resources and end up in the bin.

Christmas is the worst for this.

Are you actually in the closet or just living your life?

I have never introduced myself to people with my sexuality or worn a rainbow badge.

Most people just live their lives.

You're privileged if you don't want people to know you're bisexual and can hide that.

If I wanted to hide my sexuality I'd have to end my relationship.
