The things you see in B&M!

Not being rude here BTW I'm constantly in B&M and love it 😂

But you see some right sights.

Yesterday a woman came in with a TV bracket and said her TV doesn't fit. So she wanted to exchange it for the one she had brought to the till.

Supervisor asks for receipt, she doesn't have one, so he refuses to exchange.

She goes ballistic and just grabs the new one and runs out of the shop!

He gives chase and they stand at the entrance whilst she's howling for him to get away from her. He grabs the bracket from her.

She then comes back in to get the old bracket and starts shouting at him again!

Then in the toiletries ailse a bloke takes a spray can of deodorant, uses it on both pits and puts it back!! 🤢

I once saw a man put a 4 pack of smarties down his pants too.

Years ago when I was a student I worked in matalan. People used to come in, take one of the suitcases we sold, go round the store filling it up, then leg it out the door. A couple of the young lads I worked with would often chase after them, and sometimes get it back. Absolutely nuts.

HoldingTheDoor · 31/03/2024 14:20

I’ve literally just returned from B&M and absolutely nothing happened and nothing has happened on any of my prior visits. I’m terribly disappointed.

Curlewwoohoo · 31/03/2024 14:32

Oh also In matalan, people used to go into the changing rooms and swap really old dirty bras for new ones in the boxes, then put the box back. And sometimes people used to shit on the changing room floor.

alpenguin · 31/03/2024 14:39

We were in Asda and heard smashing and hollering so we quickly left (we know what it can turn into). When we paid and got outside we saw a group of teens who had been in stealing alcohol and trashing the aisles being circled by security while the police were questioning some of them. One of their dads pulls up in his car and yells at some of the boys not yet spoken to by police to hurry up and get in the car and tried to speed off. Security guard did try to stop them best they could and ended up taking pics of his reg no.

I was more bothered that this kids dad condoned his son and friends behaviour and was more intent on not getting them caught than giving them a bollocking and a bit of a lesson for being bored and thinking trashing the local supermarket is the way to spend your time.

aintnospringchicken · 31/03/2024 14:44

I live within walking distance of 2 Aldi,a Lidl,a Home Bargains and a B&M .
In my city there are 14 Lidl,10 Aldi,5 Home Bargains and 4 B&M.
I've never witnessed anything described in previous posts but I'm sure it goes on everywhere.

BeautifulBirds · 31/03/2024 14:54

I worked in a supermarket years ago. I've seen many thefts, I never got involved (not paid enough for that).

Anyway... a customer complained that there was dog poo in the wine and spirit aisle. Upon inspection it was dotted down the aisle at various intervals.

Once it was cleaned up, we checked the CCTV.

Turned out it wasn't dog poo, but human. A man was casually walking around shaking it out the bottom of his trousers.

Correct, but the class of people I am talking about are unlikely to shop at Harrods and more likely to shop at discount stores.

Edited

I know someone who works for Harrods, they have whole teams of people for both anti theft and anti fraud. At least no one's money laundering in B&M!

There is a difference between people who conduct money laundering schemes to defraud Harrods and people who shove a pack of lighters down their keks in Poundland. Both are bad obviously, but they are of a difference type iyswim.

Gross. It fits with what I am saying though. You get a certain class of people in these lower priced stores. You would be more likely to get two people having a fight in the middle of a discount store than you would in Harrods.

Crunchymum · 31/03/2024 15:47

Other end of the spectrum here but I've seen a security guard trying to bring someone back into store as they hadn't paid for a carrier bag. I was as shocked at this as any of the other shit I've seen (most recently it was someone pole vaulting the barriers in Sainsburys with some baked goods to be chased and wrestled to the ground by security guards!)

Edited to say it was M&S where the chap was stopped for the carrier bag.

Used to work in Dotty P's in the late 90's / early 00's and we had the odd shit in the changing rooms.

We also had someone who wanked on the leggings, a transgender who used to come in every Sunday and kick off when refused entry to the female changing rooms, people trying to return suits they'd literally just stolen (someone would come in with a suit that still had tags on 5 minutes after someone else has just walked out with it and scream blue murder until they were given gift vouchers they'd then sell outside the shop). It wasn't uncommon to find used tampons / sanitary towels and blood soaked underwear in cubicles and during my 4 years at the store I had at least two couples shag in the changing room.

Such was life at a busy store in a mainline London station.

** sadly the suit stealers we drug users and although we had security none of us could approach them and they used to get away with the voucher thing until police moved them and then a different lot would be back a few days later.

Crunchymum · 31/03/2024 16:07

Apologies, want to clarify the Transgender comment above. This was back in 2001 and was clearly a man who used to come in every week dressed as a woman and demand access to the changing room, despite clearly being a man and agreeing that yes they were male.

No offence intended.

BoringName2 · 31/03/2024 16:09

In our local Tesco's I once saw a woman steal from the food bank boxes which are after the checkouts! All the staff seemed really surprised and confused. I never saw if security caught her or not. She didn't look like the typical criminal shop lifter! Just a normal middle aged woman with a trolley of paid for shopping.

I used to work in a fairly upmarket London lifestyle store. I only remember one shoplifter - a very homeless looking guy who walked straight downstairs and swiped a load of untagged clothes and silk scarves. I didn't confront him as I didn't get paid enough for that! We more often got people trying to pay with counterfeit notes. I learnt later that you're supposed to not give them the fake note back but at the time I gave it back to avoid any agro. I'm sure they just went down the road until some poor shop assistant wasn't paying attention.

Cuwins · 31/03/2024 16:29

I worked in an outdoor store when I was first out of school. We used to have several well known homeless men who used to come in and steal gas canisters for their cookers- sad really. Most weren't a problem and the best way to stop them was to just follow them round the store. However we also had 1 memorable occasion when we had 2 drunk homeless men fighting in the window display! That did require a call to the police to sort out.

SheerLucks · 31/03/2024 23:53

Years ago in the 90s a friend of a friend managed the Warehouse in our city. After the store closed she would apparently sell masses of stock half price to friends out the back of the store. She was never caught!

The posts on here are hilarious but so sad, but welcome to the future folks. In a decade it'll be the middle classes doing this - we're all going to become feral outlaws so IMO respect to those doing it now...

The things you see in Waitrose and Harrods are also rather bat shit

Thanks for the tip I'll definitely avoid.😁

That happened at the supermarket down the road from my Mum! her friend was there when the poor staff member was cleaning it up. Was it a small town starting with 'W'?

Yep. grim isn't it?

😂

Oh gosh yes I mean we (myself and colleagues) had to deal with the occasional customer shitting in the cubicle.

The staff never resorted to that!!

@fluffycloudalert Don’t get me wrong, I do adore Hatfield (as I went to the school ‘fondly’ known in local circles as ‘The Wh0res On The Hill’), but crumbs, it’s get up and go has got up and gone since the 90s.

May or may not be linked to my school cohort escaping to Uni in 1991… anecdotally of course lol.

Edited

What school is that? I live in Hatfield and never heard of that??? The girls school on bishop's rise??

Oh so a "high class" crime is okay...?

Surely, as a shop worker, you can still say "Oi! No!" and run after them?

And get stabbed? When you only get paid minimum wage and the shop has insurance anyway? Nope, not a chance.
