Is a 28” waist really small?

So I bought jeans in this size as an insensitive to fit into them.

A friend who I would consider as slim (she’s also tall 5 foot 10) said that’s a really small size like teenage girl size.

I'm also bigger than I was. I have a pair of diesel jeans from '99 that are a 28 waist. jeans bought in the last ten years are labeled 24-25. they all fit.

my mum had a biba dress from the 70s labeled 10. It fit me perfectly as a skinny tall teen, I doubt it would fit my mid 40s waist now despite the jeans sizes as above.

clothes are bigger.

Clothes are bigger and there has been size inflation. It's been proven and it's silly of anyone to deny that.

Yes, clothes are bigger. Stuff from the 70’s was based on post war sizes. After 5 years of rationing.

Clothes were resized in 2006. To reflect modern shapes.

But shops size for their target used. So a Biba size 10 would have been smaller than an M and S size 10

is that true of the 60s / 70s as well as today? Interesting.

Marilyn's hips looked bigger because her waist was tiny and she also had a small ribcage/underbust. 34 inch hips are actually a 6.

I remember clearly in the seventies 36, 24,34 was considered something to aspire to and ‘normal’. You only have to look at shows from the seventies to see that both women and men were a lot slimmer than they are now. I remember the class making skirts and waist sizes were all about 24 inches in secondary school. Any more than that was considered fat.

Yeah, the measurements were around for years. And shops have always focused on their target markets.

Not sure tbh
When I was 18 I had a 23 inch and I was a size 8 at 5ft 6. I thought I was fat. God if only I knew how id end up!
