If you have a tv how big is it?

I was given a television by my parents as a birthday gift when I was 22, its 32 inches and still have it now in my own family home and it's now 10 years old

We don't have a huge house but having spent the last month housesitting at my mums I've come home and my tv looks so tiny

I love tv but never wanted the tv to dominate the room, could I stand to go a bit bigger?

It depends a bit on how big your living room is surely?

I have a 40 inch and could probably go bigger for my room size.

The main TV downstairs is 58inch and the one in the bedroom is 32inch

43 inches. I used to have 32" one and actually thought that was pretty big,but seems small now in comparison! I'd say go for it. The room my TV is in is now actually very large but the TV doesn't dominate it.

75" - it used to eclipse the front window at my old place. I love it. I wish I'd held out for the 85 incher to come in stock in fact. And if I lived nearer a costco, I would be getting the biggest they had (and a sensible price) and covering the entire living room wall.

I bloody love my enormous TV, I love that it turns everything into a cinema and couldn't care less that it dominates the room :)

We're in a similar situation; our current tv is about 32in which was reasonable 12 years ago; but now does seem small. The ikea unit it's in would fit a bigger one, so we're looking at 43in as they go into silly prices after that.

55 in the living room we had a smaller one for a little while from upstairs when other one broke but it looked silly in a big living room. Upstairs tvs are smaller 24inch/32..

New TV for our move two years ago. First guy a 40 inch but it looked too small in the space so got a 50inch.
Growing up we must have had the last b&w tv in the neighbourhood! And my first tv in the 1980s was a b&w I bought used from a shop.

It depends on the room size though. There’s calculates. Although ours suggested 80 and we went with 65 which is plenty, so I think they come up on the large side.

Quite small, both upstairs and downstairs are the same size, probably around late 20s?

OH moans all the time about needing and wanting a bigger telly. I cannot stand big tellies so its a no.

Mine is 43 inches and about 16yrs old.

I have an open plan living room and the TV is on a unit and almost acts as a room divider.

I like a small TV. Big TVs give the impression of prioritising television over other, more valuable cultural pursuits.

We have a 30 inch TV in the family room. The smaller the better, imo! No other TVs.

The previous owners had 5!!! Kitchen, Living room, Family room and 2 bedrooms! There were only 2 of them! I'm still baffled!

Spot on!
We have a small TV, and I have always refused to have any TV in the living room because they just look so awful - even when switched off, they are too distracting.
Most rooms in British houses are too small for 40+ inch TVs - I don't know how people stand it, they must ruin their eyes.

Yes that's what I thought

The irony being, I love tv and I'm not spending my evenings learning a new skill 👀

What’s baffling?

We have a 70 something inch in the lounge, a 40 something in the kitchen/diner, a 32 inch in the family room and 32 inches in 4 bedrooms so 7 in total.

  1. I would like to go bigger but the bigger/ newer ones are either E,F or G energy rating and mine isn't. Have enough electricity suckers in the house.

32", think we've had it around 16 years. It'll be with us until its dying day. At that point, I suspect DH will want something a bit bigger, but I'm not fussed.

55". It depends how far your sofa is from it as to what size you ideally have. This tv is the first we've ever bought, we had second-hand from family before.

37’, its very old but still works well. It does seem small by modern standards but our living room is tiny so it’s OK. If we every get round to refurbishing the room we might get a bigger one and put it one of those cantilever things on the wall.

KitchenSinkLlama · 28/03/2024 20:46

36" I think. It's in a very big room but I don't like huge TV's. The thought of a TV dominating a space isn't something I would like to live with.

@FoxyLoxyLoo

How can 2 people watch 5 separate TVs?! I found it bizarre.

We've got an old 32" in the sitting room and a 43" (I think) in the playroom. The trouble is the assumption you'll have a big TV so a) there's regularly text messages on screen that are difficult to read on a 'small' TV and b) the home pages in different apps are regularly difficult to read. I refuse to get rid of my TV before it dies though.

Report
HopelessAndWondering · 28/03/2024 20:53

44" which was the smallest we could get with the functionality we wanted. No other TVs in the house.
