If you have a tv how big is it?

RedRobyn2021 · 28/03/2024 19:56

I was given a television by my parents as a birthday gift when I was 22, its 32 inches and still have it now in my own family home and it's now 10 years old

We don't have a huge house but having spent the last month housesitting at my mums I've come home and my tv looks so tiny

I love tv but never wanted the tv to dominate the room, could I stand to go a bit bigger?

40 inch in a fairly small lounge and I'm happy with that.

How can 2 people watch 5 separate TVs?! I found it bizarre.

It just depends what room you’re in. We don’t often use the lounge for instance so that tv isn’t always on but if we want to watch a film that’s where we go, the family room isn’t used much these days either tbh it’s mainly the one in our kitchen diner that’s on when I’m in. Our children are older so each have a tv in their rooms and I like to watch the news getting ready in our room in the morning.

32 inches…. We never watch it….was last switched on maybe last September?

stargirl1701 · 28/03/2024 21:06

@FoxyLoxyLoo

Wouldn't you just use a mobile device like a phone or tablet if you are moving around the house though?

I disagree with screens in bedrooms quite strongly. Parenting is hard enough without yet another battle.

AllTheOtherCats · 28/03/2024 21:10

I have a 32 inch. Same reason as you OP. I don't want it to dominate my room. I've had it for 13 years now and it's still going strong and doesn't same to have aged at all!

We don’t get great signal on mobiles, I live in the Highlands of Scotland, it’s landlines and dodgy internet a lot of the time as we’re very rural.

Everyone has different opinions on screens in bedrooms, our children pretty much lived outdoors while growing up, they all rode as well so had horses and the outdoors to entertain them. We didn’t mind the tvs in the bedrooms and watching a dvd for an hour or so.

RobinBobbin · 28/03/2024 21:20

32" in the living room. I'd like a larger one but have nowhere to re-purpose this one to. Would go for 55" if it needed replacing.

There's a small one in the kitchen diner which is perfectly adequate.
32" in one of the bedrooms which the adult DC use for streaming/gaming occasionally. That's the only tv upstairs and DC didn't have tvs in their rooms growing up.

Growlybear83 · 28/03/2024 21:20

We've got 32" TVs in the living room, conservatory, and dining room and 20" TVs in the kitchen and bedroom. I've never understood why anyone would want a TB that's bigger than 32".

DiscoBeat · 28/03/2024 21:21

60" in our games room, which seemed enormous but the sofas are quite far back so it's in proportion. We were gifted a 48" one for our living room which is about twice the size of our previous one but it's really good. These are so far removed from the 24" type televisions I used to have but so much more immersive, especially with the sound bars etc.

thefamous5 · 28/03/2024 21:24

75 inch in living room.

50 inch in our bedroom and the kids bedroom

RubyWinehouse · 28/03/2024 21:26

The one in our living room is 55" and is big enough, husband would like to go even bigger, but although we have a large living/dining room which is open planned, we have a staircase in the middle, so where we sit to watch TV isn't a big area, so we won't be going any bigger.

JanglingJack · 28/03/2024 21:28

I think it's a 37" in living room. It's the only one we have in a 3 bedroom house.

What do you do instead?

My daughter goes to sleep and I usually come down for 8ish then just watch tv for an hour before going to get ready for bed

75’’ in the fairly large living room, 47’’ in our bedroom which is fair too large and very rarely used but didn’t want to get rid of it after upgrading the living room. Two teens have 32’’ in their bedrooms.

ChoccieEgg49 · 28/03/2024 21:46

55 inch, but we have quite a large open plan space so doesn't look ridiculous which it might do in a small living room.

HundredMilesAnHour · 28/03/2024 21:48

55 in the living room, 40 in the bedroom (used to be the living room TV in another property I had). That's more than big enough for me.

RRINMIM · 28/03/2024 21:53

We don’t have one currently but I recently tried to buy a small one. Almost impossible!
We watch stuff on tablets when we want but I want a small TV for the kitchen and can’t find anything suitable.
I may get one of those Frame TVs that look like a picture and stick it on a wall. They’re all massive though.
My dad has one that’s the size of a double bed. May be exaggerating but it takes up half the room. It’s like being in a cinema.

Really? Loads of 24 inch ones available?

GoldenDoor · 28/03/2024 21:58

65” it’s a thing of beauty. Takes the whole wall, but wall behind it is dark and it’s paper thin so don’t really notice it when off. Sit fairly close for a cinema like experience. We don’t watch shit Tv or day time Tv or soaps, so it only goes on for an hour or two in the evening for something meaningful.

RightOnTheEdge · 28/03/2024 22:01

55 inch. My dad tried to persuade me to get a bigger one but I'm glad I didn't.

He's got an absolutely massive one and I hate it. It's like sitting in the front row of the cinema at his house. it hurts my eyes.

JennyfromtheBlok · 28/03/2024 22:02

I think it’s 55inch.

It’s a Samsung Frame TV and looks spectacular with the artwork option. Looks identical to a painting. I love it.

01F · 28/03/2024 22:02

Okay.

100 inch. 4K 8K UHD

But it is built like a cinema room with large sofa, and as much as I try and read a book I just prefer motion / movies etc. for documentaries and nature shows it's a true delight.

It's a cinema trip at home.

Can't imagine it would suit a "normal" living room.

I do also remember the days of a 21 inch tube and wonder how did I even see it across the room but it was okay at the time.

MrsSkylerWhite · 28/03/2024 22:05

64, I think. It’s great. My disabled husband can no longer manage cinema seats or rugby stadia so it’s ideal.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 28/03/2024 22:34

75 in living room, 50 in main bedroom, 42 in kitchen and spare room. I live alone.

I'm disabled and sometimes need someone to stay overnight so the spare room is used then. I need to have constant low level noise in the house as it helps to settle my anxiety levels.

I rarely leave the house so I use the TV's for various purposes, watch shows/films obviously, as a large screen for video calls, to view my security cameras / doorbells, having reminders pop up on the big screen during the day for various things.

idontlikealdi · 28/03/2024 22:35

40, no space to go bother. Would if I could. Could watch without lenses / glasses then.
